Chapter 3 - This Place Isn't Home Anymore
Isabel's POV
I arrived at the airport an hour ago and so far everything's going well for me. I don't like travelling. I don't know why but ever since I was little I never did. My suitcase was already packed into an empty bin and a seat was reserved for me by the window. If I'm going to travel, I'd like to view everything from above.
We were now boarding the aeroplane. One by one, we all got in and took a seat. I found my seat and sat down. A lady, maybe about 40 or so, sat in the seat next to me.
"Hi I'm Isabel," I said to her.
"Hello dear I'm Eleni."
"Nice to meet you. Have you ever flown before?"
"Not on my own," she said chuckling, "but if you mean by aeroplane yes I have. What about you?"
"First time in a while."
"Are you nervous?"
"A bit."
"I'm here with you."
"Thank you Eleni."
She smiled, "Please call me Leni. All my friends do."
"Okay Leni, may I ask why are you going to New York, if that's not too personal of course."
"Not at all dear, I'm going to visit my grandchildren."
"Oh that's nice."
"And you?"
"Visiting my parents."
"Oh so you wanted to be an independent trooper," she teased.
We both laughed.
After about an hour talking to Leni, I relaxed in my seat and dozed off.

After grabbing my suitcases I finally made it to the airport exit.
"Isabel!" Someone called from behind me.
I spun around and saw Eleni waving at me, "Goodbye Isabel! I hope to see you again soon!"
"Bye Leni!" I shouted then walked out.
There was a chauffeur waiting for me outside holding up a piece of paper cardboard with my name on it. He looked old, like in his 50's maybe but his face was so full of life you'd believe he never felt as old as he looked.
"Hi I'm Isabel Aldaine," I said to the man in a black suit and cap.
He nodded, "I'm Albert. Ready to go Ms. Aldaine?" He opened the door gesturing for me to go in.
"Please call me Isabel and yes." I said leaving my suitcases for Albert and entering the limousine.
A few minutes later I heard the trunk slam shut and Albert entered sitting up in the front.
He pulled out of the driveway and we drove in silence.
Half an hour later we arrived in Manhattan. I knew because I remembered what this place looked like.
The limousine finally came to a stop and Albert got out. His shoes clattered as he stepped onto the pavement and he walked and opened the door for me.
"Thank you Albert."
"Your suitcases will be right up Ms. Al-"
"No," I cut him off, "Call me Isabel remember? Please skip the formalities with me. I'm not your superior or anything." I chuckled.
"Right sorry Isabel," He said amused.
I smiled gratefully and walked up the steps to the front door of my house.
I rang the doorbell and I heard it chime throughout the house. I heard footsteps and the door flew open revealing a woman, probably in her 30's.
"Hi I'm Isabel. Is my mother here?"
She nodded and gestured for me to follow her in.
I entered the house, my eyes scouring the empty halls. I remember all the fun times I had here, the childhood I treasured. It was all taken away when I was 13. It was all about responsibility and upholding the family name. Well now? I don't give a fuck about the family name. It got tarnished on it's own. People on the outside may not know our family but I do, and it's name is broken.
Hell, I wish I could change my last name.
She stopped by a door at the end of one of the hallways and turned to me, "She's in there."
"Thank you."
She smiled and walked off. I knocked on the door, "Mom?" I called.
The door opened and another woman greeted me telling me to come in.
I entered and saw my mother at her dressing table trying on some jewellery.
"Hey mom."
She turned around and grinned, "Hey sweetie. Welcome home."
This place isn't home anymore.
I forced a smile, "Glad to be back."
"Vivian will show you to your room- well your old one, we've redecorated."
I nodded and followed the maid who I now know as Vivian out into the hallway again. We walked around for a few minutes and came to the door of my old room.
I opened it and embraced a strawberry scent. The room which was once a pink wonderland filled with toys is now a violet room with matching decor.
I sighed and plopped down on the bed. I noticed my luggage was here just as Albert had said.
This is going to be a long weekend.
