[6] Deal With It

A/N Edited.

"Can I join you at lunch?" Cameron asked. Being the civilized and concerned citizen that I am, I nodded smiling. Don't get the wrong idea that I like him like that but he seemed to be a good friend.

I fish out my phone from my pocket and happened to see a new notification from the SIA. I had forgotten to read the other one last time.

SIA App: 1 Unread Notification

Martha: We were reviewing the footage that got saved in your glasses and we came across someone. Call me when you read this.

"Sorry, man. But she's with me during lunch," a voice said, placing an arm around my shoulders and I instantly knew who it was. My head snapped at the figure beside me, my eyes turning into slits. He wasn't even looking at me instead his eyes were directed at Cameron and as if they were communicating non-verbally, they were looking at each other like they were going to rip each other's heads off. Sensing that a new argument was going to be formed.

I removed Wade's arm around me and replied, "Okay, now I won't be eating lunch with the both of you. I'll be with Ella, bye boys!"

I zoomed my way towards the hall and saw the familiar figure standing by next to my locker. She and I were a few lockers apart.

"Hi, Ella! Let's go grab some lunch later," I asked as I held on to her arm. She nodded and smiled at me and we both walk towards the next class just as the bell rings.

"Wait! Wait for me!" Cameron yelled as he sprinted to my side. I glanced behind me and saw the retreating figure of Wade going in the opposite direction but was soon blocked by Cameron's figure.

I took a seat in the middle portion of the room with Ella beside me. Mrs. Gregory came into the picture and she started talking about math. I could feel her staring and grinning at me so I turned to look at her.

"Do you need something?" I asked while smiling. Ella grinned and moved over to me and whispered, "Are you a sex god?" Excuse me?! Shocked by her question, "What?!" I shouted across the room.

"Ms. Jones, is there anything you would like to share with the class?" Mrs. Gregory asked displeased by my behavior while shrugging her head in disappointment. I muttered, "Nothing, sorry ma'am, won't happen again," I answered with a nervous smile. She turned around and continued discussing.

I look over at Ella who was silently chuckling. "What made you ask that?" I said with wide eyes. She has got to be kidding me.

"I heard everyone talking about you during class," she said as she motions for me to lean closer. "They keep saying it's either you have something to blackmail them or that you seek help from a shaman and have some kind of magical talisman, that's why Wade and Cameron are always with you," she whispered. What's up with people and gossip? I almost wanted to laugh at what I just heard but maintained my composure.

"They love to bother and annoy the hell out of me, and why would they like me?" I am a nerd, for god's sake. This isn't some kind of typical teen romance where the nerd and the school's most popular boy end up together and get married in the end. I roll my eyes at the thought. "Don't worry, they just won't stop bothering me and they definitely don't like me, I'm like charity," I explained recalling that I had to keep up with my disguise and school reputation as the ugliest nerd in school. She chuckled and shook her head.

Huh. Like she knows something.

At lunchtime, I looked for a place where I can see the whole cafeteria, and at the same time, the cafeteria won't see me. I wave at Ella who just came from the restroom to sit over where I was sitting.

While waiting for her to get her food, I pressed the button beside my square-rimmed glasses and wore my earpiece that looked like air pods. It gave me access to talk to Martha and Mark since they were working with me. Mark is usually with the hacks and Martha's specialty is research and traces.

"What's up with the message, Martha?" I whispered looking at both my right and left sides for anyone that could eavesdrop suspiciously.

"Hey Jess, while we were reviewing the footage, we came across someone suspicious, his name is Cameron," Martha's voice vibrated in my earpiece.

"The fact that a new student came in the middle of the year in this school after you is suspicious. Not many people know it, but this school doesn't openly accept transferees in the middle of the school year," Mark explained while I heard keyboard clacks.

I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion. Okay so that is definitely suspicious. But what if Cameron was from a high-profile family?

"Yeah, Mark's right. According to what I have, this school doesn't really accept transfer students squeezing their way in at the middle of the school year," Martha continued.

"Maybe his parents are influential?" I replied. I hadn't really noticed the analysis of my glasses when they landed on him the first time we met.

"Could be, let me check," I heard Mark's voice in the background and his loud keyboard clicking and typing.

"Can you do a background check on him? Got to go, bye!" I whispered and suddenly became alert that Cameron and Wade are heading in my direction. I pressed the off button of my glasses and hoping not to be obvious, I acted as if I'm going to wipe the lens of my glasses so I took them off and from my pocket, I scrambled to grab the soft cloth and wiped it carefully to make myself look busy.

I see Ella walking toward our table.

"Spill the beans, woman," she said as she took a seat across from me.

"There's nothing really much to share," I say as I take a bite of my chicken nugget. I look over to the big circular table at the center of the cafeteria. That's where the popular kids sit. I see Claire sitting beside Wade, basically feasting on him. Ew, what a disgusting sight. Claire caught my eye and gave me an evil grin before grabbing Wade's face and kissing him.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes. Kiss him all you want, I don't care. Wade seemed shocked at first but proceeded to kiss her back. I shifted my gaze back to Ella.

"Hey, Liz, do you like Wade?" Ella asked with a teasing smile since she saw what Claire and Wade did just a while ago. I chuckled and shook my head. Like him? Yeah right. His existence annoys me.

Keep telling yourself that, sweetie.

What the hell?? I told you to shut up.  I am not talking to you.

Then who is 'you' talking to?

Ugh, forget it. I give up.

"Yeah, and that would be the day when pigs fly," I retorted as I dip my fries in ketchup and took a mouthful of it. Ella casually talks about some guy she sat with during economics class and how the guy practically stuttered every time he talked to her.

My phone vibrated. I fish it out of my pocket and checked the notifications.

SIA App: 1 New Notification

That must be information about Cameron. I didn't mind it and continued eating.

Once lunch was over and the bell rang, we parted ways. I dropped by the restroom and locked myself inside a cubicle to check the message on my phone.

SIA App

Martha: Here's Cameron's profile. Just click this link.

I click the pdf document that Martha sent and read the contents. There's nothing much suspicious. He is actually high profile since his parents were the owners of Star Tech. Star Tech.....Oh right, one of the companies involved in my side mission.

I should also keep him on close watch. I hope I do not run into him during my side mission. That would be a damn headache.

Composing myself, I unlocked the cubicle and went out. I glance at my watch and my eyes widened. Shit, I'm late!!

"So the two teams are the Axis powers and Allied powers. Let's start off with the Allied Pow——Ms. Jones, why are you late?" Mr. Reyes said as he sees me by the door, about to knock.

Let's joke around a bit, shall we? Mark and Martha, I am sorry for this terrible behavior I am going to put up but since I'm already late and I can't help it, what can I do? Hehe.

"Well, I am waiting for you to answer, Ms. Jones?" Mr. Reyes said, looking at me with one eyebrow raised.

"Well, I am late due to the fact that Franklin Roosevelt needed back up against Germany, Japan, and Italy. In short, the Axis Powers told me to look for allies, and two countries agreed. One is Great Britain and the other is USSR. I just had a deal with Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin and they said that they're in," I said jokingly while smiling. I basically cut short his lecture for everyone to understand the easier way and he seems flabbergasted.

"You are excused. Take a seat." Whispers erupted inside the classroom.

"How can she—-?"

"No freakin' way!"

"That's insane!! Is he crazy or is she crazy??"

"That's Mr. Reyes! There's no f*cking way he would—-?"

"Yes sir," I smiled victoriously and marched down the center aisle to sit at the far back of the room. Most of them had wide eyes as big as UFO saucers. Sometimes, learning everything in advance has its perks.

I grabbed the seat beside Wade since there were no seats left. Wade was busy doodling at the back of his notebook.

"Finally," I said sighing in relief while sitting down, I've been standing for a long time now and my feet are killing me.

I glanced at Wade who was busy doing who knows what. I elbowed him. He seemed startled by my gesture.

"Are you okay?" I mouthed. The class is too quiet and if I make a sound, the sound waves that would be produced will spread. Ugh, in layman, they'll hear me.

He gave me a glance clearly indicating an 'Are you serious?' look.

I just rolled my eyes and leaned my head on the wall next to me. I looked at the window. Bright light almost blinded me and I squint to adjust to the brightness. Don't get me wrong, I like the sky in broad daylight but by looking at it, it might be the reason why my pupils would possibly malfunction at any rate.

What should I do with this obnoxious guy sitting beside me? In the back of my head, I heard a voice.

Deal with it.

Damn, very supportive eh? I'm not in a freaking game show where you follow a celebrity's orders to get money! I follow the head's orders because I want to. Okay then, I'll take that advice. Thank you, Ms. Voice at the back of my head. OMG, I should name you.

You're welcome. And no, you are terrible at that. Ms. Voice cannot be possibly any worse.

Hey! Fine, Ms. Voice it is.

I tried to compose myself as I take deep breaths and closed my eyes every now and then. There's nothing hard with what I'm doing right now. I then shook my head vigorously and by that, I  accidentally bump my arm on Wade's.

Wade seems surprised by the fact both of our arms brushed up against each other and I felt him stiffen. I just cleared my throat in embarrassment as I try to ignore him giving me looks.

It almost felt like forever until the bell rang.

"Finally," I murmured as I got up from my seat. Slowly glance at Wade but good thing he doesn't see me. He was looking in empty spaces a lot lately.

I got to report this. I quickly took a picture of his condition and headed to the restroom. I locked the door to make sure there was no one inside and I also checked each cubicle if it was vacant.

I dialed Mrs. Johnson's number.

"Well, greetings to you Jessica, what do you need?"

"Hey, Daniella. I was wondering why Wade seemed out of it lately. I caught a glimpse of him staring into empty space though. Here let me send you the photo," I replied while navigating my phone to send the photo to her. After a few taps, she received the photo I sent.

"Oh my! You're right, something is off."

"Yes, I thought maybe something happened at home?" I asked.

"Nothing pretty much happens at home, why don't you try to talk to him?" Daniella replied. I nodded and bid my goodbyes since I don't want to be late for my next class.

Wade seemed passive lately. And I was starting to get worried. The question was, why?
