[19] Wait, Why Did I Nod Again?
A/N Edited.
"Okay, so the people who kidnapped you were definitely puppets. They were working for something more superior, which sucked because they didn't have enough budget for everything," Martha explained as I adjusted my earpiece.
I was in the secret room trying to figure out the people who had kidnapped me before. I laid out the transparent board to place pictures obtained from the scene.
DAA was written on the center. I encircled it and wrote a question mark. I glanced at the other pictures that were taken in the container an the pier. It was two guys unconscious on the ground with their backs facing the camera. I knew these two were connected since I saw some of them had a small dragon tattoo either at the back of their wrist, the back of the neck, or their bicep. Using my red whiteboard marker, I drew a connecting line between DAA and those pictures.
"What we couldn't figure out was the motive. We think this act was to threaten your parents, somewhat like a wake-up call to them, not to you. You were taken as bait probably to lure out your parents. But we can't be certain, you have to watch yourself out there, for all we know there might be another attempt." I slumped on my office chair.
I figured that it could be the DAA since they were our big rival but what doesn't click is the funds. I know the DAA has enough funds like us to hire qualified agents and better guns and equipment but the people from the pier were like amateurs, and like I said, they didn't even have the good stuff.
"I can't dismiss any more information for you since all that's left are for your parents."
That means there was more to this. "You can't do that. Look, I'm the victim here, I think I deserve what information there is left!" I argued.
"Sorry, Jess. We understand, but this info is strictly for your parents," Mark replied with an apologetic voice. I groaned in frustration.
"Fine, I'll be off, I have somewhere to be," I bid my goodbyes and removed the earpiece.
I walked towards the small hole but shot a quick look at the board. DAA. I crawled back to my room. I looked at the time and figured I should drop by Wade's house to check upon him.
No, that's not what you think, I'm doing this since it is part of my job to know his status. As I get out of my room, I almost bumped into Jordan who was suspiciously leaning by the door.
"Were you trying to eavesdrop?" I asked as I placed my coat over my shoulders and through the arm holes.
He just smiled sheepishly and I hit him on the back of his head. "Ow!" he yelped as he rubbed the back portion of his head.
"Served you right, you little nutcracker," I muttered as we both headed downstairs.
"Why are you here anyway? You could've just knocked," I asked as I took out my keys. Jordan cleared his throat which made me glance at him with one of my eyebrows raised.
"I just had to be where my primary agent is," He wiggled his eyebrows. I rolled my eyes.
Goddamit, still a habit.
"I didn't bring my car with me." I knew what he meant so I sighed in defeat and nodded my head to which he immediately sat on the passenger seat of the car.
"Wear your seatbelt, idiot," I said as I quickly jammed my foot on the gas and drove off.
"Do you always drive like this?" he asked, a little bit terrified as he grabbed his seatbelt and the handle above his head tighter.
"Drive like what exactly? Like this?" I teased as I step more on the gas as the speedometer reached 150 km/h.
"I can drop you off, where do you live?" I asked curiously as I jerk my head in his direction.
"Why? Oh, I never knew you had it in you," he smirked then disgustingly winked at me, which almost made me gag. I suddenly pressed the brakes and he hit his head on the dashboard.
"Fuck!" he groaned, massaging his forehead. I just burst into laughter because of how satisfying the sound was, it was like ASMR. "That was not fucking funny!"
"Sorry not sorry, yes, it was." I laughed harder.
"As I was saying, these past days I was sleeping at the main office. But I just got a text from them yesterday saying I should stay at your house for the time being," he threw me a flirtatious smile.
I abruptly pulled the brakes and he hit the dashboard again. "No freaking way," I looked at him.
"Yes freaking way," he replied, rubbing his forehead again.

We pulled up at Wade's mansion.
"Remind me again never to let you drive whenever I'm with you," he mumbled and shuddered as he rubbed the sore part of his head, which will probably bruise up later.
"Hey! I'm not that bad of a driver," I argued as I playfully punch his arm.
"Goddammit, woman, you swing like a testosterone!" he cried as he rubbed his arm. I ignored him and rang the doorbell. The door opened revealing Wade who looked like he was still half-asleep.
"What are you guys doing here?" he asked as he rubbed his left eye.
"We just had to check up on you," I replied as I looked at Jordan who was playing with Harry, the caretaker's dog. He opened the door wider for me and Jordan to get inside.
The living room was clean, surprisingly, as I sat on the comfy sofa.
"Make yourself at home," Wade lazily said as he yawned which also made me yawn (the chain reaction thing going on).
"Want something to eat?" he offered as he poke his head out from the kitchen.
"Sure," I replied as I heard him tell the chef to cook something.
I looked at the wall clock dangling on the far left corner of the wall in the living room, which said it was 6 PM in the evening. He walked back to the living room and sat on the sofa beside me.
"What is he even doing here?" Wade asked with a tinge of annoyance as he shot a glare in Jordan's direction. I just shrugged in reply.
"Don't touch that!" he shouted because Jordan was touching his family's painted picture plastered on the wall. Jordan just blew off with a smile and headed his way to the other sofa.
"Hey Jordan, want me to crush you in COD?" Wade challenged him. I knew these two boys were competitive in everything. Jordan gave him a smirk, "Didn't know you play."
"Hey! I want to play too!" I chimed in as I raise a hand like I was volunteering on someything.
"Fine, let's take turns, loser gets replaced."
"Game on."
I looked at both of them and shook my head as he threw the other controller to Jordan.
Boys will be boys.

After having the most tally of kills in COD and four champion titles of Mario Carts later, the boys decided to let me 'take' a break so the two of them could play against each other.
Suckers.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you, I invited my friends over," Wade said as he scrolled through his phone. He what?! I'm here and they can't see me out of my disguise! And by disguise, I was wearing a white loose tank top, skinny ripped jeans, and my Stans, with the retainers, wig, and glasses excluded.
"You mean the nut-headed bozos?" I bit back a smile as I remembered our first encounter. It was the first day of school and they ganged up against me.
"They're not bozos! They're just surprised by how much sass a girl like you has," he defended. "You could hide in the guest room," he suggested. I scoffed and stood up from my seat.
"It's fine, I'm going home. It's getting late anyway," I snapped as I pick up my coat and practically ran out of the door. I heard Wade call for my name but I just ignored him. Jordan trailed behind me because I was his ride home.
"Oh, Jessica darling! How are you?" Daniella asked as I almost bumped into her with her husband on our way out.
"I'm good, Daniella," I replied and gave her a hug, and smiled at Mr. Johnson. "Were you just leaving? You could stay until dinner."
"That's fine, I have to get home. Maybe next time?" I said with a sad look and they understood. We bid our goodbyes. That good-for-nothing sucker should've just told me earlier.
I walked towards the driver's seat and motioned to open the door.
"Nope, I'm driving," Jordan announced with emphasis on the 'p' as he snatched the car keys from my hands. "I'm not letting you drive again," I chuckled and hopped in the passenger seat.
"You make it pretty obvious," Jordan broke the silence during the ride home.
"Make what obvious?" I asked clueless about what he said. What was he talking about? Obvious that I was mad?
"Anyone can definitely tell you both like each other," Jordan said bluntly. My eyes almost popped out of their sockets. I did not like him, and in any way like him. He is a client, and I was doing my job as his bodyguard, right?
'Right?' PPfffttt stop lying to yourself, princess.
"No, I don't. Don't be mistaken, I'm just doing my job as his bodyguard," I clarified as I cross my arms over my chest.
After mumbling a string of synonymous words to sucker, no, and not going to happen, we continued the ride home. At the next intersection when the traffic lights turned green, we were about to turn left when I felt something clashing at my side. Huh?
And as if time slowed, all of a sudden, an ear-bleeding ringing sound pierced right into my ears.
I couldn't hear anything. My head hit the window as the other car came hitting my right. The car came dizzily swirling around as a weird smell welcomed my nose. The seat belt tightens its grasp on me as I lose grip on the car handlebar. Windows came crashing from the impact and I couldn't feel the bursting of the airbag against my face as I feel blood trickling down my forehead and the iron taste in my mouth.
The last things I heard were screams and the numerous cars honking.
