The Mission

"Collin, Mark wants to see you."

I turned and frowned at my closest friend, Luke. "Why?" I asked. Why would Mark want to see me now? He only calls for people when there's a mission he needs completed. We're part of a secret organization against the Cultists. We do everything we can to help people who have been attacked, or try to prevent the attacks themselves. Why Mark would want me to go, I have no idea. I'm not the strongest or the bravest. I don't have powers ether, like most members do. Ok, all members do. The only ones who don't are me and Luke. We're not mages, like the rest of them. Luke frowned. "I don't know. You'll have to ask him." I exhaled. "Alright. I'll see you later." Luke nodded and past me, most likely on his way back to his dorm. I glanced down the hall, and made my way to Marks dorm. I knocked lightly on the door. "Come on in, Collin." I opened the door and walked inside. Marks dorm looked like an office, which is basically what he uses it for. Bookshelves lined the walls. A bed was carelessly pushed against a wall, as if sleeping didn't matter much. Blueprints lined several tables, scattered around the room. A desk sat in a corner. Mark sat behind it, waiting patiently. "Take a seat Collin." I nodded and sat in a chair across from him. "You wanted to see me?" Mark nodded. "Collin, I have a favor to ask you." He paused, looking at me. When I didn't say anything, he continued. "As you know, our Mena sensors have been detecting Mena all over The Badlands. Over the past few years, the Mena seems to be growing stronger in one spot. " I raised an eyebrow. "So you want me to go investigate." Mark nodded, standing from his chair. He leaned down and pressed a button on his desk. As I watched, clear Mena rose, creating a image between us. I could see stone buildings, a spire, even a glimpse of what looks like an ocean in the background. "This is the location of were you will be traveling. The Mena sense is very strong there." I frowned. "Looks like a temple." Mark nodded. I exhaled. "Why me?" I asked finally. "Why don't you send Lea or Brad?" Mark sighed. "I feel you will do fine. You can't solve every problem with magic, you know." I frowned. "I know. I just thought-" Mark sighed. "Collin, I believe you are the best choice. The magic that is felt...it's not normal. I was thinking this may be... Him." I gulped. "You mean..." Mark nodded. "Herobrine." I exhaled. My evil clone. He corrupted my body and killed my parents, possibly my brother too. I escaped, but barely. Then he killed millions. It's not something I like to think about. The past, like, five years he has disappeared, and The Smithiside by Thousands took his place. You can see his statue all over The Badlands. Now Herobrine is back, and The Smithiside by Thousands is gone. I exhaled. It's them we try to stop. For the people's sake. Most of them don't even know Herobrine exists. Until it's too late. Mark sighed. "Collin, you can bring one person with you. That's all I'd advise. A small group would be best." I nodded in agreement. "When do I go?" Mark nodded. "Immediately. Who are you going to take?" "Luke." I said without hesitation. Me and Luke have been together, against Herobrine, ever since it started. We met in his dreamworld. I wouldn't imagine taking anyone else. Mark nodded. "Good luck Collin." I stood to leave. "Thanks." I turned and made my way to Luke's dorm. We have some talking to do.

Luke exhaled. "So you want me to come with you." I nodded. I had just finished telling Luke what my mission was. He sighed. "At least let me pack my bag. When do we leave?" "Tomorrow morning." I told him. He nodded. "Good. We can sleep in our own beds tonight." I nodded. "We better head to bed early. We leave at daybreak." Luke nodded. I turned and walked into the hallway. "See you in the morning Luke." He nodded at me. I made my way down the hallway and into my dorm. I walked to my bed and climbed into it. I yawned and closed my eyes.

My dream that night was strange. I found myself in my old home, facing my old bedroom. I heard voices. "Hey Armen, you awake?" My eyes widened. Armen...that was my brothers name! The man speaking though...I sort of recognized the voice. I couldn't place it though. "Drake? It's the middle of the night!" I heard my brother complain. I caught my breath. Drake?.... No. It can't be. Could it.... I didn't think that spell had worked! "Midnight snack again?" I heard the man....Drake....ask. Armen sighed. "We did this yesterday man!" I heard him complain. I heard the Armen's bedroom door open. I took a step back as they entered the room. I saw Armen first. His blonde hair was swept to one side, his blue eyes wary. Or maybe he was just tired. He wore a blue T-shirt and shorts, brown belt, shoulder pads, sash, and boots. He looked right past me as if I was invisible. Then I saw the tall figure behind him. Half his face was black, along with his shoulders, chest, and feet. He had brown hair, wore a light blue T-shirt, and blue jeans (like me). One of his eyes was purple on light purple, the other was light blue (Also like me, though both my eyes are blue, not one). He had this dangerous look to him, like, well, a monster. He was half monster though, so it makes sense. His eyes darted around the room, as if he were looking for threats. He apparently didn't see me, so he followed Armen into the kitchen. And at that point I knew. This was Drake. My Drake. The man I created to protect my brother. I've never even met him though. Kind of hard to do when your in a dreamworld. Then it hit me. If he was real, maybe my brother had gotten to live a normal life, or at least a full one. Maybe he never remembered my note or our parents death. I smiled at the thought. Then the dream shifted. I found myself looking at Drake and Armen. They huddled together in the corner of a dirt tunnel, shivering in fear. Three diamonds, imbedded in the dirt, glowed with a strange light. Armen whimpered and buried his face in Drakes shirt. "Drake I'm scared." I heard him whisper. Drake put his arm around Armen, as if to shield him from harm. Suddenly an arrow flew by me and hit Drake in the hip. Drake yelped. Then the dream changed. I saw Drake walking behind a black haired man. He wore a white T-shirt, dark brown shoulder pads and sash, black pants and shoes. I gasped. Why was Drake following The Smithiside by Thousands? It made no sense. Then I noticed something. The Smithiside by Thousands clothes weren't torn. Suddenly, Drake stopped. "Armen." He said hesitantly. The Smithiside by Thousands turned around. My eyes widened. His eyes were brilliant blue, while The Smithiside by Thousands had one white eye. The Smithiside by Thousands... Is my brother?!?! No!! Why would he do something like that... I shook my head. Something else must have happened. "Were are we?" I heard Drake ask. Armen paused, looking around. "I have...no idea." Drake sighed. "Were is here?" He mused. "Hey, what's this?" I turned to see Armen eying a...dagger? Knife? Some kind of weapon. I think. It was a simple leather grip, with a short stone blade. A small silver stone was imbedded in the hilt. Also, ejecting from each side, was a stone...thing. It kinda looked like a claw, like in one of those grabber-arm games. "I don't know. Dagger? Knife? Some kinda blade." Drake said with a frown. Armen grabbed it. "We can probably return it to someone in the village." Drake nodded hesitantly.  The dream faded, and I fell into a dreamless sleep.
