Chapter Eighteen
Chapter Eighteen
I didn’t know how to respond. I reached over, and squeezed Nick’s hand. Then, I did what anyone would do in a situation like this- I pressed the button for assistance. Almost immediately following, a flight attendant came rushing over.
“Is everything alright?” she questioned, as an annoyed look passed over her face once she realized I was a student.
“No,” I said.
“How can I make it better?” she said in a cheery british accent, though, her teeth were clentched.
“The boy sitting across from me was just harassing me,” I accused.
“Him?” she asked, turning to face him. The second she laid her eyes upon him, my case was over. I hated Cam for being irresistibly gorgeous. Her expression changed, and she was now smiling flirtatiously. Ditz. “Sir, were you pestering this young lady?”
“No, of course not,” he denied, winking.
“Well, then, I’m sorry, Miss, but I can’t help you,” she said with not a trace of sympathy in her tone.
“Okay, first of all, he’s a minor, and way out of your league, and, second of all, can you reassign his seat?” I demanded.
“No, I’m not at liberty to do so,” she said. “How old are you?”
“Twenty one,” Cam lied.
“Liar,” I mumbled. “He’s seventeen.”
“Only a couple years off..” she said, making her way back to the front of the plane.
“Cameron?” Nick asked, finally assuming a spot on this planet.
“Yeah,” said the boy across from me.
“Why are you here?” he asked.
“Yeah, Cam, why the hell are you here?” I asked.
“Because I just transferred to your school,” he said easily.
“You have got to be kidding me!” I laughed, not believing him.
“Oh, Elle, you know me well enough; I don’t kid,” he said seriously.
“Why?” I demanded, knowing that he was being one hundred percent truthful.
“Because after all you told my mother, she called your father, and then BAM! I transferred!”
“Dr. G!” I yelled to the young teacher a few seats in front of us.
“What’s up, Elle, is the plane too dirty or something?” he asked after coming over to us. He was a new teacher, and wasn’t used to the craziness of all the stuck-up kids yet.
“See the dude across the aisle from me?” I pointed to Cam.
“You mean Mr. Prescott?”
“Did he transfer?” I asked nervously.
“Yes,” the teacher nodded.
“No. No. No. No! No! No! N-”
“Elle, chill, it’ll be fine,” Nick promised, smiling brightly at me.
“Nick, you don’t know Cameron.” He didn’t comprehend who Cam was. All Nick wanted to see in the world, to a degree, was good- something Cameron wasn’t.
“And Cameron doesn’t know me. Cameron- actually, can I call you Cam?” Nick said.
“Of course,” Cam said, not giving away the slightest hint of hostility.
“Well, Cam, I think we should get to know each other,” Nick said.
“Alright,” Cam shrugged, as I listened, horrified.
“What sports do you play?” Nick inquired.
“I can answer that- he likes to play with hearts, and especially loves to break them,” I said, the statement completely accurate.
“Well, Elle, come on, you practically just described the sport I had a gold metal in,” Nick said, nudging me.
“So, you’re the one who beat me? I was working and training so hard, and then all of the sudden I wound up with a silver!” Cam said, as I remained impassive. Though Nick took it as the joke it had intended to be, I took it for the truth that it was.
“Nice, dude!” Nick said, putting his arm over my shoulder. I was freaking out. This couldn’t be happening. I was sitting a foot away from the same boy with whom I had fallen in love. He broke my heart. Quickly, I put my headphones in and the sound of Nick and Cam talking slowly faded away.
I sat up, abruptly, and looked over to Nick. I had fallen asleep, and Nick was still deep in conversation with Cam. I took out my earphones, and started to follow the conversation.
“Rugby is much better than American football!” Cam said, “Oh, Elle, did we wake you?”
“No,” I glared at him.
“This kid thinks that rugby is better than football. Please tell him he’s in insane!” Nick said.
“I already I know he is,” I grumbled.
“Hey!” Jillian’s husky voice said. She was standing in the aisle right in front of me. Before I could respond, she had already climbed over Cameron, and sat herself in the seat beside him.
“Hello,” Cam said politely.
“I’m Jillian,” she said, drawing a spiral on her knee. She was so predictable.
“Cameron,” he returned.
“You’re British, hot, and sexy- the whole package,” she bit down on her lip, and her eyes read lust.
“Slut?” Cam whispered, leaning over to me.
“What do you think?” I said.
“I’ll trust my instincts and assume so.”
“Great thinking!” I said sarcastically.
“Oh, do you know Elle, or did you guys just meet?” Jillian asked, pulling her neckline down.
“We’ve known each other for quite a while,” Cam smirked.
“Do you have a girlfriend?” she asked, getting right down to business.
“I wish,” he said, looking over to me longingly. I shot him another scowl.
“I’m single too! How do you feel about making out with hot, sexy, strangers?”
“I’m sorry, I truly am, but I’m just not interested,” Cam turned down.
“You know, Elle’s dating Nick, right?”
“Yes, I’m fully aware.”
“When you want me, which you will, I’ll be waiting,” she smiled, standing up. As she brushed past she ‘tripped’ on top of him. “I’m so sorry!”
“It’s fine,” he said, as she got off of him.
“Great abs by the way,” she winked, and went off.
“Interesting girl,” Cam said, brushing his shirt off.
“Not really,” I said.
“Oh Elle! I really need to apologize for earlier, that was so unlike me!” Rosie said, coming out of nowhere and sitting herself in the place Jillian had just moments before abandoned. I saw Nick’s fists clench.
“We’re on a plane, don’t,” I warned.
“Hi, I’m Rosie,” she said, flipping her straw colored hair and smiling sweetly at Cameron.
“Cameron.”
“I noticed you were checking me out as you got on the plane, so it only felt right to introduce myself,” she said as Cameron laughed.
“I was actually ‘checking out’ Elle,” he said as I slapped leg... hard.
“Elle?” Rosie choked.
“Yes.”
“Why on earth would anyone with eyes check out Elle?”
“Because she’s beautiful,” he sighed.
“I’m going to stop you right there. You just crossed a line,” Nick said, kissing me on the cheek, as a defensive play. He got jealous so easily! It was adorable!
“It’s true,” Cam reasoned.
“Cam, shut up!” I said.
“I know it is,” Nick said, as he traced my hand with his.
“Do we like her?” Cam mouthed, pointing to Rosie.
“I don’t,” I said.
“Great! So I do!” he said, turning his attention to Rosie, “So, sweetheart, do you like male models?”
“Yes!” Rosie gigled.
“Good, because I’m one.”
“Do you like hot girls?” she flirted back playfully in a sickening manner.
“I do.”
“So, then you like me?”
“Sure…”
“Because I already like you!”
“And I’m already liking you!” Cameron said, smirking at me. Aw! That was so cute! He thought he was going to make me jealous! I was going out with Nick; I didn’t give a shit about Cam. Never again.
