CHAPTER 70: I'm not one of you
Time: Unknown
Location: Throne room
MERCY
Mercy.
I need.
Mercy.
She needs.
Mercy.
Papyrus.
Is here with me.
He.
Will make everything better.
Walking to the throne room, the white noises drowned out every other outside noise that tried to get my attention. It was all blocking any means of getting me back to normal. I chuckled, for no apparent reason, I just figured this situation was so ironic-- so funny to have me suffering.
"YOU AREN'T SUFFERING." Papyrus said, grinning and walking with me. "YOU ARE PROSPERING." he said, "FOCUS ON WHAT WE NEED TO DO TO SUCCEED." He said once more, swaying my thoughts as if I was his very own creation, his puppet. "OFFER HER THE MERCY THAT YOU OFFERED EVERYONE." He said. "THERE IS NO GOING BACK NOW. LOOK AT HOW MUCH SHE HAS SUFFERED." It seemed as if he were repeating everything slowly, and calculatedly. I couldn't tell what was new and what had been repeated at this point.
..me...rc..y..
I could feel Frisk's light tugs on my jacket sleeve, desperate to have me talk to her once more. her voice was still drowned out by Papyrus' loud speeches, and all of the white noise. It was like I was drowning in a sea of White noise, unable to get out, unable to swim.
I had control of my own body, but it didn't feel like me anymore. It didn't feel anything-- merely a robot just walking with a strong desire to kill.
"LET US HEAR WHAT SHE IS SAYING." Papyrus said. "SEE HOW MUCH PAIN SHE IS IN FROM THESE FEW SECONDS ALONE." He looked towards her, staying quiet so I could faintly hear her voice. It was disturbing, yet calming, and tears ran down her face of worry as she finally made herself believe that she had gotten my attention. "DOES SHE DESERVE THIS?"
"Sans!" She said, almost too quietly. She seemed distant, and far away. It was hard to focus on her voice so hard. "What is going on??" She said, rather fast. "Are you okay? What's wrong with you??" She said, "It's almost been 7 minutes and you're not responding to me! You're only walking, looking straight forward." She said, looking at her hands, "It's scaring me!"
My soul dropped, as if the sound of heartbreak was there inside of my body. I was scaring her, she was begging me to stop and listen to her for just a moment. She was in so much pain, it was even unbearable to me, and it didn't help that these strong feelings towards her made me want to help her more. I needed to protect her, and care for her...
forever.
"Frisk." I said, rather numbly as we passed through the King's throne room and headed towards where the barrier had used to be. I could see his remains scattered across the flower garden that he surrounded himself with after the Queen had left him. "Do not be afraid." I said, almost too numbly for even my liking. "You will be safe soon." I said, looking at the room where the barrier used to be. "Here is our way out, my love." I said, looking at her and gently caressing her cheek with the knuckles of my fingers.
"Sans, please tell me.." She said, holding my hand and bringing it back down, only making my soul ache worse. "What is going on? I can help you!" She said, her voice making it more and more painful for me to hear.
"YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO STOP HER PAIN." Papyrus said, swaying my thoughts as I walked closer to Frisk.
She looked up at me, as I placed a kiss on her lips for the last time. "I am not like you humans." I said, chuckling slightly. "When a ration is given to me, I give it away. I am not greedy." I said, looking into her golden eyes. "When someone is in pain, I want to stop them from hurting. I am not selfish." I said, as her confused, teary eyes didn't dare to tear away from mine. "But most importantly, when someone hands me a knife.... I don't run away. I am not a coward, Frisk, and I will do anything to keep you from seeing the horrors of the rest of the world." I said, her eyes widening with fear, as she took a step away from me.
"SAVE HER FROM THIS WORLD." Papyrus' words curled around my thoughts, suffocating any rational thought that I could have had left like a snake attacking it's prey. he suffocated me with his devious words, tempting me closer and closer to the point of no return. "OFFER HER YOUR MERCY, AND END HER PAIN." He said.
"S-s--" She said, looking at my right hand where I had found to grip the knife I had been keeping with me. "G-get a hold of yourself!" She said, quivering and shaking. I loved seeing her in such a frightened state, She would be freed soon, and she would prosper with the rest of all of them!
"Let's call it saving you! It is called LOVE for a reason, isn't it?" I said, stepping closer, wanting to feel her crimson blood spew all over the place as I did with the previous humans when I came up to the surface. it made my adrenaline rush and my soul irk for more and more. "You are in so much pain..." I said, using my left hand to caress her face again, just taking in the softness of her skin, and the beauty of her face that I had grown to love. "...Allow me to put you out of it." I grinned, as she did nothing but stare at me with frightened eyes.
"Sans--!!" She tried to say, only to be cut off my the sheer pain coming from her stomach, as my hand was quickly covered in her metallic blood. It was sticky and warm, and smelled of metal, as her eyes couldn't seem to widen anymore.
She was shaking, her hands slowly running up to the area where the knife had plunged into her stomach, and touching the blood that was pouring out in disbelief. Tears rolled down her frightened eyes, looking up at me, as she let out a pained cough, blood coming out and slowly leaking from her mouth. "It's okay, Frisk." I said, "It'll all be over soon." I said, grinning, igniting my left eye socket with the rush that I was feeling. "I am only doing this for you, my love."
She slowing looked up at me once more, her eyes no longer in a frightened state, but more of peace. She used her last bit of strength to bring her fingers up to touch my face. However, the light quickly faded from her eyes, and her arm dropped, falling limp into my arms. "You May not understand. It's foreign to human nature..." I said, chuckling, and laying her limp, stiff body on the floor of the barrier room.
Looking at her body, I was overcome with grief, and madness, and I started chuckling slightly, only to be struck with a laughing fit, as I held my empty skull in pain. Looking at her soul, that had come out of her body upon her death, I looked at it's grayed form, stripped of determination from the trip that costed her, her life. I shook violently, tears rolling down my skull, as the insanity took control of me once more.
"Now we can be one... Forever.." I said, cowering, and laughing at the irony of the situation. Who knew I would have grown to care about her? Only to still kill her in the end?
My soul ached, and I held my chest in pain.
"Ready or not..." I said, chuckling as Papyrus became the sole being in my life once more. Looking at Frisk's blood all over my jacket and shirt, and grinned, looking at her lovingly. "I'm coming for you humans... all of you." I said, chuckling. "Frisk gained this mercy with suffering... and it's you all who destroyed her chances..."
"You may not all understand it..."
"But that's fine."I chuckled, walking out of the underground with a single knife in hand.
"Because I'm not one of you."
