CHAPTER 41: The Mystery Monster Part II

Time: Unknown
Location: Wishing Room
That monster... he could predict my movements. I've never seen that monster before. Why is judgement being bestowed upon me?

I looked up with wide eyes as Frisk began to stumble in the opposite direction of the crumbling ceiling. She tripped and stumbled over her own feet as she tried to scramble as fast as she could. My eye glowed as I summoned my magic in defense. My left eye was flaring purple, lighting up a small portion of the way.

The small rocks that had started to fall crushed the large, bright echoflower into nothing. I could almost hear it's cry for help, despite being a flower. It died a slow, painful death underneath the debris.

"DON'T TELEPORT OUT OF HERE." Papyrus yelled over the cracking noises. "SHE WILL REALIZE YOU CAN TELEPORT AND THAT ALONE WILL CAUSE DISTRUST. SHE WILL WANT YOU TO JUMP TO THE BARRIER." Papyrus said. "WE CANNOT ALLOW THE POWER OF THE RESET TO ESCAPE." He said, confusing me.

He wanted to kill her. He was being contradictory.

I didn't have time to think about this.

I nodded as large rocks begun falling down, blocking the entrance to the Wishing Room, I could only hope that the exit wasn't blocked as well; the falling rocks created intense vibrations in the ground, making it hard to run. It felt like a massive earthquake. "FASTER, FRISK!" I yelled, pushing her more, as the rocks began to near us. "THE EXIT IS UP AHEAD!" I yelled, using my blue magic to throw some rocks out of the way that were beginning to fall over us.

"I'm TRYING!" She yelled back at me, running as fast as her little human legs could carry her.

The cracks in the ceiling seemed to follow us, as the fragility of the caves in the Wishing Room were too unstable to stop the collapse of the ceiling.

"IS SHE TRYING TO KILL US??" Papyrus said, over the chaos that was happening in the given area. "SHE IS RUNNING AT AN EXTRAORDINARILY SLOW RATE." Papyrus said. "SHE IS LUCKY SHE HAS THE RESET."

"Shut UP!" I screamed, trying to focus as she continued running. Papyrus was taken slightly aback as he didn't care to respond to me snapping at him. She cracks in the ceiling made their way towards her swiftly, and I looked up at the ceiling with more wide eyes. My heart was racing fast. "LOOK OUT!" I yelled in her direction and pointed towards the crumbling ceiling overhead her.

A piece of rock seemed to fall in front of her, a fast, falling boulder that was the size of her as a person. The cracks were faster than us— I couldn't help but get the feeling that we might just die in here. She looked up, hesitating on running in this same direction. She was ahead of me, due to me stopping and throwing rocks to the side, hoping they would build up to create some sort of stability for the ceiling. However, no avail.

Catching the rock with my blue magic, she looked behind her, stopping to look at me in surprise. "JUST RUN! DON'T THINK!" I said, she looked at me weary, and seemed to look at me with worried eyes. "GET OUT! KEEP RUNNING!" I screamed over he crumbling area. I was just glad the floor wasn't collapsing too.

We had both stopped at that point. I was exhausting my magic swiftly, using it to catch most of the rocks that would damage our way out of the Wishing Room. I had started to breath heavy and sweat. I hadn't used this much magic since fighting Chara.

"I can't just LEAVE YOU HERE!" She screamed in response, just loud enough for me to hear her over the falling rocks. "RUN!" She called, cupping her hands over her mouth to create an echo for her screams.

Dust flied everywhere from the rocks, and it caused her to cough whenever she deeply inhaled to scream. She was going to die. "I'LL CATCH UP!" I assured her. Why was I so adamant about her leaving? Why was I actually trying to protect her? I didn't understand! Wasn't I just going to kill her in the end? "JUST GO!" I yelled, not looking at her. I was too focused on trying to catching more falling rocks. It had seemed like my mouth wasn't in control of my logical though process, if I had one, at least. "GO!" I said, knowing she hadn't started to run again.

I grunted, holding the rocks with all of my strength; I even glanced back to see if she had really left, and all I could see was her back, running towards the exit. I could catch her many glances towards me, worriedly, her hair hitting her face every time she whipped her head around.

When was the last time did I have someone care about my well-being like that?

Suddenly, just as I thought the pillar of rocks was creating enough stability for the roof, I felt a few pebbles of dirt brush my skull, and I looked up in slight fear. A large crack had formed and was about to give away above me. I looked back, and it had seemed that Frisk noticed too, stopping where it was somewhat safe to watch me.

Get out of here, you damn girl!

I had used too much of my magic on the rocks, and I didn't have any left to stop the ones overhead of me, or the rock structure would most likely fall down on top of me, crushing me in the process.

I chuckled. The irony. I was supposed to be immortal.

"SANS! GET OUT OF THERE YOU COWARD!" Papyrus yelled at me for the first time. "YOU CANNOT COME BACK IF YOU DIE!" He screamed, but I didn't listen. He seemed to care about me more than I cared about myself. Was it really care? "YOU CAN'T DIE! NOT YET! WE'RE NOT FINISHED!" He yelled.

Another crack, the ceiling begin to cave in on me, unleashing dozens of rocks and boulders to crush my bones. I heard a faint scream of my name over the rumbling, but I couldn't hear if it was Papyrus or Frisk.

Within the falling rocks, I could see faint remanences of the monster that caused this. The same grin as he stood in the darkness.

And with a sudden shove, I was pushed against the rock structure, hitting my skull hard on the rocks as the world started to blacken.

The only thing I could hear was the echoes of my name, as the rocks fell and crushed us both.
