Chapter 19

Ayo

I huffed as I listened to Lara explain herself. I told Sola that I would call him back, so yeah I chickened out on him. Not because I wanted too but because I was taken aback, I had no idea what he was talking about but someone did.

"He gave me this invite to a birthday party which was for you and told me to try convincing you to attend but when we spoke this morning..." She stated.

This morning?!

"I told him to ask you himself since it wasn't such a big deal." She added.

True it wasn't a big deal but I just disliked how Sola thinks he can't talk to me.

"So why didn't he tell me himself?" I asked.

"Well he came during open day to give you but you weren't around." She informed me. A text wouldn't have hurt though.

"So, are we going?" Lara said in a sing song voice.

"We are." I smiled. It was sweet that he could tell me afterwards by himself.

"But on one condition." I said, smirking as how her face fell. "We are going to study tommorow morning." I finished my sentence.

"Deal." She said and extended her long hand at me for a handshake which I shook willfully.

Lara and I made up the plan on how we were going to the party tomorrow. Since Mom was going for a church program and wouldn't be back till like six or later. Tobi, Lara's brother would take us with the car. I actually felt nervous, I haven't done something like this before.

****
Saturday morning came really quickly, I woke up early to find mom in her Redeem T shirt, we attend The Redeem Christian Church of God.(RRCG). It's a big church known globally and has different branches all over the world. Our General Overseer is Pastor E.A Adeboye.

"Good morning mum." I greeted my mum and she prayed for me while I sat on her big bed. I observed my mummy's room again, it was a master bedroom with cream walls and a furry caramel rug which tickled my feet. She had a vanity and a full body mirror, most of her furniture was made of oak wood and her air conditioning was off. Sometimes I wonder how we could avoid such luxury after Dad left. I knew it was all on God we relied on.

"Which do you think is better Ayomide?" My mom asked wearing white sneakers on one leg and black sneakers on another leg. She was wearing a red and white top with a black skirt that gave out her curves.

"White." I answered her and she nodded as she pulled the black sneaker off her foot. She took her bag and turned the lights off while we both left her room.

"Take care you yourself, okay?" She said and kissed the top of my fore head while I went outside to open the gate.

I got inside and found Lara sitting on the couch and scrolling on Social media. She scared me a bit.

"Sup." She greeted, raised her head from the screen she was staring at.

"Good morning." I replied rubbing my eyes as I closed the door.

"Are we going to wait for your brother?" She asked with a hint of disgust in her voice.

"We have too. He's still family no matter what." I told her.

"True. But if he looks at me in a weird way I'm going to snap." She said.

"What happened?" I asked, shocked that he spoke to her.

"He was looking at me like in a flirting way and I didn't like it." She stated.

"When?" I continued asking.

"When he came back from dropping his 'sugar girl', and when he came to take cake from the kicthen." She continued, I nodded my head. His new attitude is disgusting.

After we finished prayers, we just scattered. It's not like we have anything to do with Ire, it's like he has a mind of his own.

Lara and I got dressed and went to had breakfast, we were have cereal but I still had to cook lunch on time. I was thinking Yam pottage.

After breakfast, we went to read on the dining table.

"Ayo." Lara called me.

"Ma." I answered her.

"I'm bored." She sighed and I shook my head. How does this girl read for exams and is among the ones leading the class.

"So, what should I do about it?" I asked her, glancing back at my Math book.

"Play music." She said in a 'duhh' tone. She went to her duffel bag to get a Bluetooth speaker and disconnected her phone from the charger. The power was still on,which made our reading more comfortable.

Before I could call out Lara's name. Asa was singing.

"You listen to Asa?" I asked the black barbie doll who was swaying her hips. I think that will be her new nickname: Black barbie.

"Who doesn't?" She replied me, still dancing.

"What other Nigerian artiste do you listen to?" I continued asking.

She replied me by playing Joeboy's Nobody then playing Fireboy's Scatter.

I think we going to have a break now.

***
After our break, I drilled Lara on her work and she did quite well.

"I got a ten." She said excitedly.

"Clap for yourself." I teased and she really did.

"Now it's time for me to be the leader." She said and grabbed my arm, leading me to my room.

I was surprised when I got inside and she had set up her makeup box, some dresses on the bed and some natural hair products, my mom and I keep natural hair and let's just say I'm a bigger fan of natural hair than my mum is, mostly because of Pinterest cause all those black girls with long natural hair always leave me dazed.

"Now sit." She commanded, pulling out the stool that goes with my vanity. I had loosened my hair yesterday and threaded it with wool so that my hair can straighten out.

Lara loosened the thread while combed my hair so she could start her work, she didn't allow me to see my hair though until I was done.

"You need to be patient darling." She said thickening her accent, sounding like a famous stylist.

"Yunno, acting would fit you best." I said, rolling my eyes as she put another pin in my hair.

"I know right. I have so many talents." She said removing that same pin she put in earlier. What have I gotten myself into bi?

***
I saw my hair and it looked really nice, she made into a low bun and let some strands of hair dance on my face and laid some edges. I didn't apply makeup, just applied a coat of lipgloss.

"You look gorgeous girl." She said, reading my mind.

"Thanks to you." I smiled. She started her hair in front of the mirror while I wore the outfit I and Lara picked yesterday.
It was a grey sweater, a black short Jean skirt and I completed the look with a pair of white sneakers, gold stud earrings and a small pink circular crossbag.

Lara used a yellow bandana as a head tie, she wore a white tank top, a long nude cardigan, boyfriend jeans and silver hoop earrings. She applied powder, drew her eyebrows and put on a nice coat of lipgloss. She made us take a few selfies outside while we waited for her brother.

***
Tobi finally came to pick us up and we started our journey. Tobi has curly hair like his sister but he dyed his gold which looked so cute, he had broad shoulders and a long body I'm thinking he's a six two.

Ire saw us as we left the house and I felt kinda nervous because mom didn't know about this.

"I think we should back out Lara." I sighed and faced Lara who looked like I had shot her on the head.

"And why not, we are already this far." She was right though but still.

"It's not too late to back out now right?." I added while Lara scoffed.

"Besides, your mom knows about it." Lara said again, how does she read my mind?

"I told her yesterday when we made the plan so you don't have to worry." Lara continued but didn't look at me.

"She does?" I asked.

"Hmm." She answered and I called my mom.

Two rings and she answered.

"Hello honey, how's the party?" My mom asked.

"So you knew?" I asked again.

"Of course, Lara told me, she showed the invite. But Ayomide, why didn't you tell me?" My mom asked.

Honestly, I didn't know. Mom and I aren't really close.

"It's okay, I understand everything you have been going through but that doesn't stop you from enjoying yourself. Okay?" My mom sounded a little bit sad.

"Yes mummy, I will." I smiled even though I knew my mom could not see me.

"Good. Take care of yourself. Love you." I couldn't answer before she hanged up.

I turned to face Lara and she was still facing the window, looking at something.

"Lara, I'm sorry for overreacting." I apologized to her. She sighed before facing me.

"It's okay, I should have told you anyways. I just so carried away, I didn't think about you and I'm sorry too." She smiled and I smiled back.

"Urrgh." Tobi sighed. "Can we forget about all this drama and listen to some music please?" Lara and I laughed while he played music through his phone which was connected to the radio through Bluetooth and Pentatonix's Cheerleader was playing. Yunno for a nerd, he has good music taste.

🎶Do you need me!
Do you think I'm pretty?
Do I make you feel like cheatin'.
And I'm like "No not really 'cause ohh I think that I found myself a cheerleader, she is always right there when I need her.
