Chapter 18

Ayo

I woke up to find an African Barbie dressed up in a black sports bra and a loose grey t-shirt, joggers and white converse.

"What are you up to?" I asked Lara, without a good morning.

"Well good morning to you too." She smiled at me not before rolling her eyes. "I want to start my workout now."

I nodded my head as I remembered her "important modelling stuff" as she tagged it.

"And you have had a shower?" I asked.

"Brushed my teeth. Shower, not yet darling." She backed me as she packed her lovely long hair into a bun while I itched my hair that I braided into a simple cornrow style with my natural hair. I liked my hair,it reached shoulders when braided and is very full.

"We will have to pray first baby girl." I asked her, my phone alarm ringing meaning it was 6am.

"I know." She started pulling her long fingers one by one. "I thought we could work out together."

"Ehen, in my sleep bah?" I asked her.

"No" She stressed the 'o' and started laughing while I shook my head. I got out of bed and changed out of my pyjamas into a white sports bra that I wear at home, the shirt I wore yesterday, made a cute knot and three quarters, then I brushed my teeth.

We both went out to find my mom also awake and we exchanged greetings, followed by a sleepy Ire. After which Mom began to lead us into prayer, starting with worship songs which we all sang along.

***
We had finished our morning prayers and as a normal morning routine, we had to sweep the house. But you didn't sweep yesterday o, aunty Ayo. I smirked to my subconscious because she was right.

"Mummy, is Lara going to sweep?" I asked looking at Lara with her eyes wide open, while I picked the artificial broom that I use to sweep the sitting room because it is tiled, well all our floors are tiled just carpets in the bedroom.

"Her choice." My mum answered me and I just nodded.

"Lara." I commanded when my mom gave us the few instructions for breakfast, she turned on the music player and went to her room since we were sweeping everywhere.

"Ma?" She answered.

"You will sweep the kicthen." I instructed, as I heard Ire sweep the dining room. My mom doesn't believe in that sort that boys don't do anything at home.

"Ehen?" She looked more puzzled.

"You don't sweep ni?" I asked her.

"Ohh, I do but I thought you were pulling my legs though." She added.

"Well now you can see that I'm not joking, go and sweep the kicthen jor." I rolled my eyes playfully.

She smiled and willingly obeyed as I heard her going to get a broom in the store. I wonder how a model like her can do domestic things like this cause according to the books you read on Wattpad, Rich kids could be brats.

I got to the kicthen thinking I might have to re do the same task but it was clean, now I think I'm respecting this my ajebutter friend. I laughed to myself as I finished the chores.

***
For breakfast, I made Pap and warmed the beans that mom and I cooked and packed to the freezer. My mom likes stocking the freezer with soups, pepper and processed food stuffs instead of always cooking.

"So we are not working out again ni?" I asked Lara when she landed on my bed.

"We can do that in the afternoon, go for a walk or something but for now I need rest. House work is like mini work out." She huffed while I laughed.

"And here I was thinking you were spoilt." I saw d truthfully.

"Spoilt." She pronounced it thickly in her british accent. "I doubt that."

"By the where, I was was wondering why you guys are in Ibadan and not somewhere like Lagos or Abuja." I asked.

"One, I don't like grading states but I noticed that Ibadan is very rich in culture, it's just flourishing. It's like our school for example. It depends on what you do with your situation around you." I noddey head as she spoke.

"Two, I have so many reasons to choose here. Madam Flora want to open a new business here and I'm staying with here in Ibadan with my cousins, she comes home in a while. She said that she didn't want work and her family in the same place. My uncle hardly comes around either because of his work. So yeah, I do see hope here."

Listening to Lara made me realize how much she relly loved her country and doesn't discriminate anyone or any place.

"You just changed my thinking a lot. Thank you." I smiled at her.

"No problem." She smiled. "Now I need to shower, my stomach wants to have lunch." I shook my head as she ran to the bathroom like her food depended on it.

***

"Please." Lara begged me for the fourth time.

"No, no and no." I sighed.

"You said only three and I said four." She shot her tongue at me.

"You're so adamant." I rolled my eyes.

"Awwn, I love you too dearie." She replied.

The power had failed not long and I decided to use that time to read Wattpad. But as for our drama queen over here, when she found my mum's baking recipe books and knew that I could bake, she started disturbing my life.

"Okay, let's bake." I finally agreed. I'm such a good hostess.

"Yippee." She clapped her hands like a child and went to the books she had laid all around on the floor. She used the magazine to block my phone. Just when I was starting to understand Pride and Prejudice.

I read the name of the cake out loud. "Chocolate lava cake." I raised my eyebrows at her.

"I know" She saud in a "duh" tone, but I smirked instead.

"Well let's get going then." My smile growing wider as I climbed off the bed to get downstairs.

Lara followed me and was squealing. "I love you soo much." She kept on singing my praises while I got downstairs.

After contemplating on different chocolate cake recipes, our cake was in the oven and the smell was just so heavenly.

I haven't been on WhatsApp for a very long time now, so I turned on my mobile data and tapped on the app. Messages flooded my DM and I even got a missed call from Sola. I am still avoiding him, but to be honest I don't know what I will say to him. I decided to put it aside and still talk to him normally. If do have to confront him, it will be in person.

Me:
Hey.

He came online and started typing almost immediately. People like that are so rare these days, the ones that write their actual name on WhatsApp and leaves their last seen and read receipts on.

Sola💫:
Yo.
Where have you been?

Me:
My house, where else 💁
You missed me😏

Sola💫:

Me:

Sola💫:

Me:

Sola💫

I laughed at how he reacted.

Me:

Okay, just because he's involved in shit that doesn't stop him from being my friend. I'll just try and give him time.

Sola💫

Me:

Sola💫
Eating.

Me:

Sola💫
Lemme see. Vc?

Me:
Okay.

He called and I immediately I saw his face, I wished I didn't pick it up. He was wearing a black top and wore a silver chain, his hair was shaped in front but was still full.

"Hey." He said and smiled at me only for the smile to disappear.

"Hi." I replied. There was an painful silent until I say him setting his phone down, letting me see his plate of fried rice.

"So what's up." He said and took a spoonful of food into his mouth.

"I'm good." I shook my head as kept eating. " Did you call me to use me to eat or what?" I asked him.

"No na, I actually want to ask you something too." You mean tell me something about you being involved in drugs.

"I'm all ears." I asked curiously. Lara, came downstairs suddenly. "It's ready." She skipped to the kicthen and I followed suit, I paused the video so I could take the cake out of the oven. I'm not going to allow that barbie do that.

"Uhhmmm." I moaned as I brought it out of the oven, I had to shove her away to get the cake.

"It's not fair." She pouted while I shoot her a victory smile.

I allowed her to get the cake out of the pan but she had to leave it to cool so she came to peek into my phone to see what I was doing.

"You guys are babies." Sola looked at us and shhok his head. I put my head on Lara's shoulder and pretended to take a selfie.

"Okay, back to what I wanted to ask you." Sola asked me. "Have you accepted my invitation?"
