Chapter 26: Nursery Rhymes
Spring Time
Jude was now happy that it was spring time and not so unbearably cold.
Her and Kit made up as they felt so undeniably embarrassed for their first fight as a married couple. He brought her flowers and apologized over and over again.
It was a surprisingly mild weather afternoon here in Boston as it was not too hot nor too cold, which nobody really minded. Jude was now five months pregnant and into her second trimester as she felt huge already. She told Kit that she looked bigger than she was supposed to but the doctor said she was measuring right in time since she was carrying two babies.
"You know something, for someone who argues a lot with his wife about having to come in here, he does come in a lot." Vivien told Jude as she was writing down book numbers.
"I think it's simply a sweet and romantic gesture for a man to bring home a new book to his wife." Jude said as she smiled.
"Is it better than flowers or any of that lame, gaudy romantic crap Kit does for you?" Violet asked
"Flowers and all that "gaudy" stuff is really a sweet and simplistic gesture. Kit loves to bring me flowers and I don't mind when he does. It's symbolic as I have the ones he proposed to me with pressed in a frame and hung on our wall going up the staircase." Jude said as the man came up to check his books out.
"Will that be all for you?" Violet asked him.
"I suppose so." He said
Violet bagged up his books and he walked off.
"Not even a smile." Violet mumbled to herself.
Evening came and Kit was already tired. He was ready to go home and cuddle up to Jude, anything was better than the freezing Boston weather night.
He made sure to count the money he collected from over the day and lock it away in his safe place behind his desk.
He closed up the station and decided it was time to go home and shower before Jude got home. She hated the smell and stench of gas in his clothes and it got worse since she was pregnant. He got in his in truck and made his way home to fix dinner for them as he seen a light on in the house, knowing he and Jude turned them out as they left for work only frightened him that someone was in the house. He knew Jude was not home yet and she usually would be relaxing on the couch or in their bedroom if she was. He opened the door as he grabbed the baseball bat beside the door.
"Babe? Are you home?" Kit called out to make sure.
No one answered
"Kit?" He turned around to see Lana sitting there.
"Jesus Lana, how did you get into my house?" He asked
"The key was hidden under the flower pot." Lana said, holding the key up as he turned the light on.
"I forgot about that, but how did you know it was underneath it?" He asked
"Jude told me."
"When did you talk to Jude?"
"Earlier today, me and her had lunch."
"That's the reason why she did not show up." Kit said
"I'm sorry?" Lana questioned
"Me and Jude always have lunch together." Kit said
"Oh, I'm sorry." Lana apologized
"It's alright.'' Kit said
"How are you?" Lana asked him.
"I'm doing good. It's the weekend and I am looking forward to it." Kit said
"Any big plans?" Lana asked him.
"Yeah, me and Jude are going to work on the babies nurseries this weekend." Kit said
"Do you need any help with working on them?"
"Sure."
"What time do you plan on working on them?"
"Around noon tomorrow. Jude usually takes a nap around that time, because she gets so tired so easily now."
"I know the feeling."
"Can you stay for dinner?" Kit asked her.
"Sure, what are we having?"
"Fajitas. Jude has been craving them like crazy."
"Sounds great!"
"I usually prepare rice and fajita fixings to go with it. Jude's love for vegetables have increased since she became pregnant."
"That's wonderful. Fruits and vegetables are a great source for antioxidants and minerals for the babies." Lana said
Kit knew that Lana was still sore about this particular subject. It wasn't easy having to go through the motions of giving your baby up for adoption, especially in what happened to her while they were in Briarcliff.
Jude pulled into the driveway as she seen Lana's car sitting there. She got out and walked up the steps and opened the door.
"Sweetheart, I'm home." Jude called out.
"Hello sweetheart. How was your day?" Kit asked her.
"Wonderful baby. How was your day?"
"The same old boring day. I just missed you and our babies like crazy." Kit said as they kissed.
"They have been very active today. I believe daddy owes mommy a foot massage and definitely a lot more." Jude whispered in his ear.
"I definitely will give a full body massage, plus I made your favorite pregnancy food."
"Fajitas, vegetables and rice?" Jude questioned
"Yes."
"Have I told you that you're the best?" Jude kissed him.
"Yes, all the time."
"I truly mean it though." Jude said
"I know darling and you look really beautiful this evening." Kit said as she smiled.
"You look handsome yourself, by the way, I seen Lana's car here."
"Yeah, she was here before I got home."
"Did she find the key underneath the flower pot?"
"She said she did, but when you come home to the door being unlocked and a light is on, to be honest it scared the hell out of me."
"Well, she was sorry for the way things ended the last time."
"I know and I hate the way I acted."
"You had every right to and it should have never been brought up, but people ask questions and you have to give them some type of answer or they wonder if you're really over the pain being inflicted from the tragedy, but as I have told you baby, I'm totally over that in my life." Jude said as Kit felt the babies move around.
"We are not telling our kids about this, are we?"
"Maybe, only if they ever ask, but I doubt they ever will."
"Let's not."
"Good idea, now I'm hungry and so are our little angels." Jude patted her stomach as they walked into the kitchen to see Lana writing down something in her little book she kept when something interested her.
They had dinner and conversated, which Jude started almost dozing off at dinner. She had a long week and all she wanted to do was rest her body. Lana left shortly after dinner and Jude knew it was time to rest as Kit washed dishes and followed soon upstairs to get ready for bed.
The babies were kicking up quite a fuss as she laid down in bed that night after she dressed for bed and brushed her teeth.
"I plan on working the nurseries tomorrow, that way they can be done. It won't be too long until their here." Kit said as he took off his watch and laid beside her.
"I know and they have been kicking up quite a fuss, especially on my bladder." Jude said as she laid her head on him.
"I want you to rest and take it easy this weekend. The doctor said you have to be careful with what you do from now on." Kit said as Jude always loved that he looked out for her.
"I know and I will."
"Good, now let's get some sleep and be prepared to relax this weekend, well I will be doing work and you'll be reading."
"I always do."
"I know."
"Good night sweetheart." Jude said as she drifted off to sleep.
"Good night baby." Kit said as he kissed her.
The next day
Kit prepared breakfast as Jude came downstairs, yawning as she felt sleep deprived.
"Good morning baby." Kit said as Jude laid her head on his back.
"Good morning darling." Kit kissed her.
"It's particularly a mild day, isn't it?" Jude asked him.
"Not too hot nor too cold, it's just the right temperature."
"You know what I was thinking about doing." Jude said as she looked at her flower beds that needed to be mulched, flowers planted, soiled and watered.
"What?" Kit could only imagine what she wanted to do.
"We need to get some flowers planted in the beds out there around the house."
"When do you want to do this?"
"Maybe tomorrow, since we're busy today." Jude said as she felt their babies agree to what they were saying.
"Okay." Kit said as he kissed her cheek as she smiled.
He served them breakfast as Jude enjoyed the sound of birds chirping outside the window.
"We need to get ready for a good spring cleaning too." Jude said
"Baby, I said take it easy."
"Yes, I know darling and I hear you, but I don't want to just sit around. I did that enough for five years already. I honestly love to clean and I just feel like we need to clean the house from top to bottom." Jude said as she wished Kit would let her do her own thing.
"Okay baby, but your feet are going to swell. Don't say I didn't warn you."
"I know when to take a break sweetheart. I have two little ones to remind me when I've had enough."
"Okay, so you'll be fine down here by yourself while I'm upstairs working on the babies nurseries?" Kit rubbed her stomach as he felt them start being active.
"Yes darling, if I need you. I will call you down here. I always do.'' Jude said as he kissed her.
"Okay and y'all be good for mommy." Kit kissed her stomach.
"And after we're done, I have a special treat for you."
"Can I know what it is?" Kit kissed her neck.
"You're worse than the kids at the library Kit Walker." Jude said as he kissed her.
"Yeah?"
"Yes!"
"Well, maybe I might have a couple of surprises of my very own for you."
"Mine are better." Jude whispered seductively into his ear.
"I can't argue with that."
"Because you know I'm right."
"You always are baby."
"And you know it, because women are always right."
Kit got busy working on both nurseries as he and Roy painted them last week. Jude got started on cleaning up the living room when there was a knock at the door as she walked slowly over to it as she opened to see Roy, Jane, Pepper, Vivien, Violet and Mother Claudia standing right there.
"Good morning everyone." Jude chuckled
"Good morning pretty lady." Vivien said
"Come in in. We were not expecting y'all until later on."
"We know, but your husband can't build those cribs by himself." Roy said as everyone agreed.
"We wanted to help on decorating them, so we came along too, besides the fact that Pepper lives here."
"Well, I just got done spring cleaning at my house and we have unpacked everything." Vivien said
"Well, come over here and sit down with me darling. The vacuuming can wait until later." Jude motioned for Vivien to sit down next to her on the couch.
"Mom, we're all going upstairs." Violet said
"Okay sweetheart."
Everybody but Jude and Vivien were upstairs as they had a lot to talk about.
"Ben has been wanting to come and see me before our divorce is final." Vivien said
"Are you going to?"
"I don't know. I hate that this is happening, especially with us having joint custody of Violet. She doesn't want to go over there to that house and I don't blame her."
"It always freaked me out going over there."
"I know and I tried to make it more home like, but it was just making everything harder on me and Ben."
"Honey, you do what ever you feel like doing and don't let Ben try to persuade into coming back. I used to believe in a man's words just like you, I mean I listen to Kit, but he understands me and does not prevail me from doing what I truly desire. I had men try to put me away for such heinous things, but just when I thought that there were no good men in the world, my shining armor was right there beside me." Jude said as Vivien smiled
"Kit is a great guy and I hope that maybe one day I can find someone like him, but I'm not even close to ready to meeting another man yet. I've suffered enough for one lifetime and you have too."
"Yes, but we got through it and we did not let the men leading us into total despair, win. I always win to the patriarchal male." Jude said as she remembered a conversation with the quack doctor of that horrid place.
"You're right and thank you for always being my backbone when I need you. Work and Violet has always helped me through it all."
"Honey, let Ben live with what he created, in time you'll forgive him, but right now you just need to focus on your daughter and your job."
"I can't thank you enough for always being there for Violet too. She loves you more than anything." Vivien said as Jude smiled.
"I'm just trying to work on my parenting skills before these two little angels arrive. I was like a mother to Pepper in Briarcliff, she did not have a mother figure in her life and I knew that she needed someone that understood her."
"You're already a mother to Pepper, Jane and Violet."
"I know."
After all the while of the men and girls working on the nursery, Jude and Vivien made lunch for everyone and themselves.
They came downstairs to eat as Kit stood by to see Jude laughing and smiling as she conversated with the girls.
"I believe Kit is now an expert on building cribs now, so just in case you decide to have anymore kids, you'll be pleased Jude." Roy said as she smiled.
"We haven't talked about having anymore after the twins, but if we do, we'll be happy that we can still have another baby." Jude said
"Maybe you and Jane should have a baby." Kit said to them.
"I'm not having a baby until after I get married.'' Jane said
"Same." Roy said
"That's the way God always wants it to be." Jude said
Lunch was soon over and everyone helped clean up as they went back to doing what they were doing before.
Jude was vacuuming when she felt two strong muscular arms wrap around her.
"Can I help you?" Jude asked as Kit kissed her neck.
"Yes. Come with me for a little while and you can take break and relax." Kit said as he led her upstairs to show her both of the babies nurseries.
"Which nursery do you want to see first?"
"It doesn't matter." Jude said eagerly to see her precious angels nurseries.
"We'll start with Josiah's first, because the girls are still hanging something up in Kennedy's." Kit said
"Okay." Jude said
"Close your eyes." Kit said as she did as they entered his nursery.
"Can I open them now or do I have to stand here and eagerly wait?" Jude asked as Kit kissed her head and laid his hands on his stomach.
"Open them." Kit said as she did.
Jude gasped when she seen the cute details Kit did to their son's nursery as she walked around.
"It's beautiful baby." Jude said
Josiah's Nursery:
"He's got plenty of books and I knew that you'd want to match the theme of the baby shower."
"I think elephants are cute, especially the babies." Jude said as she swayed in his arms.
"The girls had the idea for the letters and the paper poms up there." Kit said as she smiled.
"It's perfect baby and I just can't wait to hold them in my arms." Jude said
"We only have four more months." Kit said
"And it's going to be a hot one."
"We need to decide if we should get a midwife or not."
"Maybe we should, because most women have their babies at home."
"Are you sure you want us to do that?"
"Not really, I have a customer at the bookstore that said it would be better for us to have our babies at the hospital."
"I agree with her.''
"I know and I just don't know how I feel about a home birth."
"I would feel better if we had them at the hospital. Something could happen and I don't want that."
"Then we'll have them at the hospital."
"That makes me feel better, but most women only have a home birth when they only have one baby."
"I know. People give me advice on baby care everyday they come in."
"I'm glad. Now are you ready to see Kennedy's nursery?" Kit asked her as she smiled.
"Yes, let's go see it." Jude said as they walked out of Josiah's nursery and across the hall to Kennedy's.
"It's beautiful baby. I love it." Jude hugged him.
"Well, I'm not the only one who worked on it. The girls decorated too." Kit said
"I'm so proud of all of you for your hard work. I have a great for you tonight after dinner." Jude whispered into his ear.
"I can't wait!"
"I know." Jude said as she swayed out of the nursery.
It was now evening time and Jude planned her little evening for Kit as he cooked dinner.
She decided to wear her habit and wimple. It might have just been a vision when she wanted to have sex with the Monsignor or whatever he was now, but she knew Kit talked about how he'd had a dream about her and him as she wanted it to come through.
"Babe, dinner is ready." Kit yelled up the stairs.
"Alright darling, I will be down there in a second." Jude said back.
"Alright." Kit said as he went back into the kitchen to wait on her to come down.
She came down in her full nun attire as Kit looked at her, confused.
"Babe?" Kit caressed her hand.
"Shh... Quiet darling." Jude teased him.
"Can I ask why are you wearing your nun outfit. Are you going to can my bare ass again?" Kit rubbed her leg.
"Keep talking and I will." Jude said
"I may need to be quiet." Kit sat back in his chair.
"Is this my recipe, by the way?" Jude asked as he must have forgotten about her telling him about Coq Au Vin.
"Yes, I found it in your cookbook, but I left the wine out of it." Kit said
"It's delicious though." Kit said
"Well, I just wanted you to know how good it was." Jude said
"It's delicious baby." Kit said
"That it is darling, that it is." Jude said as Kit caressed her hand.
She felt like she was dreaming again, just as she had with the Monsignor as she felt the babies moving around.
Every stroke of his thumb on her hand, made her want to throw her habit and wimple to the floor. She just wanted the right moment to come. She kept thinking about Timothy as she tried to stop but it was all she kept thinking about.
She had her daydream about his body pressed up to hers again. The way his hands on her body cooled her touch and burn for him. She wished she could stop it right now as Kit was trying to get her attention.
"Jude?"
That did not pull her from her thoughts.
"Baby?"
Still didn't work.
"Okay, you're apparently thinking about something long and hard." Kit said as he stood up and grabbed the plates and washed them.
She stood up and went upstairs to take off her habit and wimple, but left her slip on.
"I need to let go of you, but how the hell do I do that?" Jude said as she was preferring to Timothy as Kit stood at the door.
"Who do you need to let go of?" Kit asked as Jude did not notice him.
"Kit, we need to talk." Jude said as Kit hated those words as she said it in a serious tone.
Author's Note: I know another cliffhanger, but Jude needs to have this talk with him. What should they say? What will they say?
