Chapter 25: Catching Up With Lana
Kit and Jude were in the kitchen when making dinner as they were talking. They had invited Lana over for dinner, because they had promised her that they would catch up soon.
Jude was now three months pregnant and glowing. Kit always loved to stare at the way she would do anything.
She was putting a cake in the oven when he started kissing her neck.
"Take a break baby." Kit whispered in her ear.
"I can't darling. I need to finish preparing dinner and shower before Lana gets here." Jude said as she mixed something on the stove.
"I will finish dinner, go relax. You know you're supposed to stay off your feet to prevent swelling." Kit said being the sensitive guy he was.
"Honey, we're fine and it's not as bad as it was the other day." Jude said as Kit rolled his eyes.
"Please?" Kit begged
"Okay, if it makes you feel better. If I get bored, don't blame me." Jude walked out of the kitchen to sit down as she picked up her yarn and crocheting needles as she started on the babies hats she hoped that would be done before they arrived as she barely got any time off.
Kit stood in the doorway of the kitchen as he admired the way she spun the yarn around the needles. He stared at her stomach, feeling the maternal love already as he was snapped out of his thoughts by the doorbell.
"Ooh, Lana's here." Jude said as she got up from the couch to answer the door.
She opened the door to reveal Lana as they hugged.
"Sorry it took so long, traffic was terrible and I had to run an errand for a friend and myself." Lana said as Kit took her coat.
"Oh it's alright dear, I'm happy you're here now."
"It smells wonderful. Are we having cake for dinner?"
"If Jude was allowed to have it all the time, all day, then yes." Kit said
"There is nothing wrong with cake, the doctor said that chocolate is good for you."
"And caffeine is bad for the babies." Kit said as he pressed a kiss to her cheek and rubbed her stomach.
"Well, I have been craving it non-stop.''
"Every pregnant woman craves something." Lana said as she frowned.
Jude sensed Lana's distance from her as she knew it was hard to not to get excited about her babies.
"Well, y'all sit down and make yourself at home Lana." Kit told them as he went back into the kitchen.
"You allow him to cook?" Lana asked Jude as they sat down.
"He likes it and he wants me off my feet, plus with the food I heard you make, I will accept his cooking anytime." Jude smiled
"Yes, it's pretty bad, I know. What if you teach me?"
"I guess if I can teach four gals how to cook, I could teach you. You have a lot to prepare for."
"Okay ladies, dinner is served." Kit said as he come to help Jude up.
"Well, I'm eating for three. I love being pregnant, but the swelling and going to the bathroom nonstop gets old." Jude said
"I know the feeling." Lana said as she wished they could talk about something else.
They ate dinner and talked about recent events coming up as they laughed about anything positive, forgetting the old and negative ones.
They ate as Kit washed the dishes as Jude and Lana retired to the couch, laughing and talking.
"He asked you out?" Jude asked her.
"Yes and I could not believe it." Lana said
"Did you say yes?" Jude asked
"I did and he was a really nice guy."
"So, when do see him again?"
"Next weekend."
"Aren't you excited?"
"Not all that much. I don't trust men like I used to, that flew right out the window when Oliver Thredson raped me, impregnated me held me prisoner at his house." Lana said as she lit up a cigarette.
"Maybe we should talk about another subject, one less painful." Jude said
"It's alright Jude, I honestly find myself sharing this story with you, therapy."
"Lana, I am the one that was blind to all of what was going on around me." Jude said
"Jude, you need to quit blaming yourself for all of this.''
"I put you in that place."
"And you got me out, you and Mother Claudia."
"I still hurt you and everyone there."
"You helped me more ways than one. You, Kit, Pepper and Mother Claudia all helped me survive that hellhole."
"I still can't believe I fell for the Monsignor."
"Well, he was your beacon of pure ambition."
"Now, he's just an asshole with no ambition." Kit added, overhearing Lana as Jude looked at him.
"Kit, we all know that." Jude said
"Then why do people still talk about him? I mean, he did nothing for you. All he did was lie to your face and promise you things that never happened until I got you out of there." Kit said as he turned his back to them.
"It helps with the coping mechanism of our pasts, that's what my therapist said." Lana said as Kit laughed.
"Well, did he sit with her two to three times a week? Did he help her get her mental clarity back? Did he get her out of Briarcliff?" Kit asked as they both turned away from each other to stare at the floor.
"Let's not do this." Jude said
"Why not? Because the both of you know I'm right."
"Yes." They both said
"Well, here's my coping mechanism and you may tell your therapist this. My wife is still be in love with a pathological liar." Kit said as Jude shot a cold glare at him.
"There is no way that Jude could possibly be in love with him." Lana said staring at him.
"Oh really? Ask her then Lana."
"Kit, don't do this.'' Jude warned him.
"Jude?" Lana looked at her.
"What?" Jude looked away from her.
"Are you still in love with the Monsignor?" Lana sort of choked up.
"No, I'm not still in love with him." Jude looked at them.
"I could name off a dozen things that he never did for her Lana or the wrong things he did." Kit said
"Alright, you're just acting foolish now." Jude said
"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you "loved" talking about the man who changed your name and left you there." Kit said as Jude stood up.
"I hate to interrupt you both, but I have to be going." Lana said as she stood up and walked to the door.
"I'll escort you to your car." Kit said
Kit escorted Lana to her car as she left as he came back inside to find Jude nowhere to be found.
He went upstairs to find Jude getting ready for bed.
"Coming back for round two or are you finished?" Jude bitterly asked.
"I'm getting ready for bed." Kit said as he grabbed his pajamas as went into the bathroom.
He came back to lie down, but Jude did not want to go on to sleep on bad terms.
"I'm sorry honey." Jude said as she kissed his cheek, but he rolled over facing the other way.
"How could y'all talk about him?" Kit asked her.
"She asked me." Jude said
"Do you wish that our lives were different than they are right now, at this particular moment?" Kit asked, turning to look at her.
"No, I love our lives and the way they are." Jude said.
"Even if I'm not the Monsignor?" Kit said as Jude turned on her light and got up.
"I just said I was sorry and you still bring him up. When is it going to end?" Jude asked him.
"When you stop acting like I'm him." Kit bit back as he got up as they stood on the opposite sides of their bed.
"I never acted like you were him." Jude said as she went to grab a glass of water.
"Yes you have Jude. I'm your husband and you're my wife, not him, not his. Those are my babies you're carrying, not his." Kit said pointing at each word.
"Are you done?" Jude asked as she wanted to go to bed.
"No, I just want to put an end to ever talking about him again in my house." Kit said as Jude looked at him.
"Your house?" Jude asked
"Yeah, my house." Kit said firmly with his arms crossed.
"The last time I checked, both of our names were on the bills and on the mortgage papers, so it's both of ours." Jude said
"Well, you certainly don't act like it's yours." Kit said as Jude's features hardened.
"Excuse me?" Jude asked softly, trying to upset their babies.
"You heard me." Kit said
"I do your laundry, the housework, cook your meals and I'm pregnant." Jude said
"And I do the same things babe. I have done a lot for you." Kit said
"I know you have and I will be forever grateful for everything you have done for me." Jude said.
"You still are not acting like I thought you would." Kit said as Jude breathed.
"This is our first real married fight." Jude sat down on her side of the bed.
"Over the same thing it is always about." Kit said as he sat down on his side of the bed, but with his back to hers, further apart.
"When is it going to stop Jude?" Kit asked her as his heart silently broke, thinking she did not love him the way he thought she did.
"When do I get to hear about how I got you out of there and helped you when he did nothing but hurt you." Kit crying at this point while Jude wiped her own silent tears.
"I know you got me out of there and helped me through it all." Jude said
"I love you Jude, but if you love him so much then why don't you go see him?" Kit questioned as Jude looked at his backside.
"I don't want to do that." Jude said as she rubbed his back.
"You would be better off in Rome, then here with me and everyone else. You can sell the library to Vivien and raise the twins as Mother Superior." Kit said as Jude's heart and head swarmed.
"I don't want to do any of that. I want to be here with you and everyone else. I want to have our babies here with their father."
"Jude, all I'm saying right now is that we need a break and when I come back, I never, ever want to hear his name or have another conversation about him again." Kit said as he stood up, grabbing a suitcase.
"Please, don't leave me here alone!" Jude cried hard into his shoulder as she did not want him to leave.
"You're not alone Jude. You have the girls and we need a break until we get this all figured out." Kit said as he exited the bedroom and she fell to the floor, crying.
"I need you." Jude said to herself, wishing Kit was holding her.
The girls got there to see Kit walking out.
"Hey Kit!" Pepper said
"Hey Pepper, I have to be somewhere. Can you stay with Jude tonight?"
"Yeah." Pepper said as the girls went inside and upstairs.
"Kit, are you sure everything's okay?" Vivien asked
"I'm afraid that someone from our past is coming back very soon and when he does, then Jude won't need me anymore." Kit admitted
"Kit, Jude loves you more than anything else in the world, besides y' all's babies." Vivien said
"She still loves him Vivien." Kit said as she was confused.
"Who are we talking about?" Vivien asked
"The Monsignor or known as Monsignor Howard and Pope."
"No she doesn't. She's always talking about how excited she is about coming home to you and having the babies in a few months." Vivien said
"Vivien, I love her more than life itself, but she loves him and I have tried everything. What does she see in him? Am I not everything she's always prayed for?" He got emotional as Vivien hugged him.
"She loves you and you're everything she's always prayed for." Vivien said as he breathed for a moment.
"I think a break would do some good for the both of us, even if it means she won't need me after." Kit said as he picked up his suitcase and walked to step off the porch.
"Kit, please don't do this. Jude needs you." Vivien said
"I'm not the one she wants Vivien and I don't want my wife to run out on me and my children to find herself." Kit said
"Kit, go talk to her and work it out." Vivien pleaded.
"Vivien, I tried to okay? If she doesn't love me, then what's the use?" Kit asked as Jane walked outside and started shaking from the cold.
"Kit, please don't leave." Jane pleaded too.
"Does Jude want me to come back upstairs?" Kit asked as he had a wandering hope inside.
"She's already asleep." Jane said as Kit knew his answer.
"Well, I will go stay with Roy until some miracle happens." Kit said
"Kit, please come back inside. She will need you when she wakes up." Jane said
"What happened?" Violet asked as she shut the door.
"Kit and Jude had their first married fight.'' Vivien said
"Great, another divorce?" Violet asked
"No!" Vivien and Jane said at the same time.
"Good, because my ass did not stand in that dress and those heels for nothing. These two belong together, despite the odds." Violet said as she walked back into the house.
"I'm leaving now." Kit said as he cranked his truck up and drove off.
"What's going to happen?" Jane asked as tears welled up into her eyes.
"I don't know sweetheart. Let's just pray and hope for the best." Vivien said it became dark again and very windy on this winter night.
"Okay." Jane silently prayed to herself.
"Let's get inside honey and go to bed." Vivien said as they went inside and went upstairs.
They fell asleep for awhile to all be woken up by Jude crying for Kit.
Vivien entered their room as she hugged her.
"Vivien, where is he?" Jude cried into her shoulder.
"He's at Roy's house. Do you want me to call him?" Jane asked as Jude nodded.
"Please?" Jude pleaded
Jane called Roy's house
"Please pick up." Jane pleaded as the phone rang as someone did.
"Hello?" Roy answered in a sleepy tone.
"Hey honey." Jane said sweetly.
"Baby, why are you calling me at three a.m.?" Roy asked her.
"Is Kit there?" Jane asked
"No, why would he be?" Roy asked confused.
"Go check the couch or the guest bedroom." Jane said
"Okay baby, hold on. There better be a damn good explanation for this." Roy said as he put the phone down and walked downstairs to see no one on the couch as he walked back upstairs to check the guest bedroom to see no one there.
He walked back in his room to pick up the phone again.
"Baby, there is no one here but me."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm sure. What is goin' on?" Roy asked
"Kit and Jude had their first married fight."
"Seriously?"
"Yep."
"Why are you not at home resting?"
"I decided to stay here tonight, but I got woke up."
"Baby, you need to go home and rest. You have worked a lot of over time this week."
"I know, but I need to be here."
"Okay, well I will see Kit early this morning and ask him what the hell someone shoved up his crawl."
"Please do."
"Okay baby, I will see you later on. I love you." Roy said as she smiled.
"I love you too baby and okay." Jane said
"Bye baby."
"Bye sweetheart."
Jane hung up the phone.
"He's not at Roy's?" Vivien asked her as Vivien turned on the light.
"Nope." Jane hated seeing Jude cry.
Jude laid her head in Vivien's lap.
"I want my Kit Kat." Jude cried into her legs as they all looked at each other, confused.
"You want a candy bar?" Violet asked her as she sat up, wiping tears from her face.
"No, it's what people used to call him." Jude smiled as they all started laughing.
"Seriously?" Jane asked
"Yes, I love that nickname. The other one is just horrendous though." Jude said
"What was it?" Vivien said
"Y'all promise not to laugh or tell him?" Jude pointed at them.
"We promise." Violet said as she could not control her facial expression.
"The other nickname he had was kitty litter." Jude said as they laughed as Jane and Violet fell off the bed from laughing too much.
"Y'all promised." Jude smiled as they kept laughing.
"What was yours?" Pepper said, trying to hide her smile.
"I don't even want to tell you." Jude said
"Fine, we stopped laughing." Vivien said
"Now proceed.'' Pepper said
"My nickname that people once gave me was Judy "Long legs"." As soon as she said "long legs" they all died with laughter.
"With a very gracious booty too." Jude said as they all cracked up with laughter again.
They all quietened down now as they all decided to sleep in her room tonight.
Jude wanted so badly to sleep on Kit's chest as he held her.
She finally drifted off to sleep as she slept near her girls for comfort.
