Are you struggling to come up with a good character design?

Do you want to make a character but don't know where to start?

Well you're in luck!

I've been watching a lot of gacha character challenges over the past few days and decided to come up with a simple challenge for you to get your creativity flowing.

Also I wanted a challenge that wouldn't give me an animal hybrid character-

This can be used in your drawings, notes, or any character design app.

Now then, I'll demonstrate the challenge with photos to help you out.

1. The talent and gender
For this step, go to your favorite childhood movie. It can be Disney, muppets, whatever.

For example, mine would be Muppet Treasure Island.

Take the villain of that movie and use that as your oc's talent and gender
(It can be what you headcanon them as-so don't worry about your oc being forced to be strictly male or female!)

As you can see, Long John Silver is a pirate and a male. So that's what my character is going to be.

If the main villian is half human and half something else (like Ursula) or is completely something else (the tiger from the jungle book), then be creative with the talent. Ursula could be the ultimate diver, surfer, etc, and the tiger could be the ultimate jungle explorer.

The height of the character doesn't matter. Be creative with it.

2. Hairstyle/skin color/eye color
The eyes can be whatever shape you want them to be.

(We'll get to the outfit later)

Now then, the skin color of your character can be whatever you want (it has to be a natural skin color though, so no bright pink aliens!)

I'm going to make a tanned male- not pale and not quite black.

(I love how my options were pale, ALMOST ORANGE, or a peachy transition-oh well).

Alright, now for the hairstyle.
(Again, natural hairstyles only. No half animals here. Sorry but that's not what this challenge is for.)

If you are the only/oldest child, have messy and long hair.

If you are the middle child, have neat and medium length hair

If you are the youngest child, have half neat/half messy and short hair.

Please note that you can do whatever you wish, there is more than one option for all the categories, so don't feel discouraged.

Examples:

Since I am the oldest, my boy will have long and messy hair. Now as for hair color, you'll have to wait for that-that will happen at the very end, when we determine our color palette.

3. (Tbh lowkey forgot which step I was on for a second 🤣) Clothing and accessories

Look at the talent you chose for your character and look at outfits that have that aesthetic. Look on Pinterest, look on Instagram, whatever you have, and find an outfit you can recreate.

At the same time, look at accessories your character would have on them. And make them have those things!

(All that white making him look chaotic-)

4. Color scheme

Sounds easy enough. But you're not picking the colors out yourself!

First, get a wheel of names or a randomizer-whatever. List all sorts of colors, whatever ones you want.
Give it a whirl!
(And repeat three times, this will be your basic palette).

Now, using either white, black, and brown as needed, create a color palette for your character.

Any shade is needed (and as gacha decided to not like the color pants this entire process probably took the longest-)

I had to get rid of the tan to make his pants work dang it

And now that I'm looking at it again ima add some piercings

At no means do you have to keep anything. If something looks off, change it!

For example I'm going to change like...the top half of his design...

The red looks so much better on him-

Anyways, experiment with your palettes and try and find a design that YOU enjoy, even if you have to break your palette.

4. Names, names names

Whatever you want. Only rule is, the name has to  be inspired by your character's talent, whether it's the history of the name or the meaning of the name.
