Danny helped me stand. He let me use him as sort of a crutch. I got into the back seat of his car, "Danny, thank you so much for this."

"It's really no problem."

"Can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"Why were you over there?"

"Homework, it was kind of stressing me out. I figured some fresh air would help."

"Oh, okay."

I'm not exactly the best at conversing with people, and it seemed Danny wasn't either. The awkwardness in the car was probably visible from miles away. The silence was getting uncomfortable, I was about to say something. But, then I saw my apartment building.

"Cool, you can just drop me off here."

Danny turned right, I waited for him to park. I started sliding out the door, "Thanks man, seriously."

"Trust me, it really wasn't a problem."

I took a couple of steps breathing through the pain. Danny saw the face I was making, "Do you need help?"

"N-no, it's fine, I need to try to do it myself."

"Okay."

I took a deep breath and walked some more. It hurt like hell, but I couldn't rely on Danny anymore. I entered the main lobby and took the elevator. I clicked on the little floor 3 button. The elevator started to rise up, I thought about all the events that happened today. No! I still have homework to do. It's going to be a long day. Ding, the elevator stopped on my floor.

I started staggering towards my apartment. I pulled out my keys and opened the door. I entered and saw that it was empty, as usual. My mom was always busy with her job, she was a journalist at a newspaper. She was always at work, busy. Sometimes, I think she takes extra shifts so she doesn't have to deal with grieving. She always worked when she was stressed. I looked at a clock, it said 6:25. I flopped onto my bed, no, I have to do work. I got up and started to make a grilled cheese for myself. I pulled out my homework and placed them on the dining table. The grilled cheese reached the perfect crispiness, so I put it on a plate and started writing the page for English.

A page on the three questions I got wrong, I can do this. It shouldn't be too hard, I'll just make up some stuff.

Suffice it to say, that took me 30 minutes, I'm sure you don't want to hear about me trying to write some stupid page for English. You know what, I'm just going to skip over when I did my homework because it's pretty boring. It's no Harry Potter trying to turn a rat into a chalice.

I ended up finishing my homework at one in the morning. I was ready to pass out when I heard the sound of the door unlocking. Of course, that was just my luck. Me being the idiot I am, I was still wearing the clothes that I got beat up in. My face was still a bit dirty. The door popped open and my mom came in, "Hey honey, how ar- WHAT HAPPENED?!"

I took a deep breath and gave my mom a weak smile and told her. I told her everything, from the beating to Danny. You see, me and my mom have always been close, especially since recent years. My mom didn't look mad, she looked like she was thinking about everything I had unloaded on her.

"How long has this been going on?"

"Since third grade, but-but it hasn't been thi-"

"Why didn't you tell me," her voice sounded so hurt.

"I didn't- it just... I'm sorry."

"Oh, sweetie," she wrapped me in a hug. We just stayed there hugging for a couple of minutes.

"So, mom how was work today?"

"Eh, it was fine. There wasn't much to cover, just another crooked politician. And we all know that's not news anymore."

"You know what mom, I think I'm going to hit the hay."

"Alright, sweetheart, goodnight. Sleep well."

I stuffed everything in my backpack and walked into my room. I flopped onto the bed and passed out pretty quickly.
