[WiL] a warm kind of darkness

A/N: This, along with most of the other WIL stuff in this book, isn't necessarily canon to the storyline. It was just fun stuff I felt like writing. :)

"Ghost, I need to get up," Carlos said as gently as he could. "I have experiments to run."

He received no response. It was still curled up next to him, practically boneless as it rested its head in his lap. That particular slant of their shoulders, he'd learned, meant happiness and safety.

It was very intriguing and worth studying further. But to do that, he would need to get up, which Ghost didn't seem to want him to do.

He looked over at Cecil, half-pleading and half-resigned. The Voice of Night Vale was barely containing his laughter. A grin broke across his face as he said, "Oh my. It seems that Ghost has taken a liking to you, Carlos!"

"Yes, well." The scientist glanced down at the little creature. Now they were looking up at him with those large, dark eyes, almost seeming smug about his predicament.

He couldn't find it in himself to frown. "...It is, scientifically speaking, quite cute."
