[TCW] oh lord im havin a thought
! Spoilers for TCW. Specifically the veeery end !
I am incredibly sane and normal, so this is another Star Wars OC. This time, it's a droid- a Seppie battle droid, in fact.
I'm thinking this droid starts out as being unusually passionate about the war. To the point that it's where they get their nickname; the other droids call them Sparks because haha funny robot pun.
They're very, very good at what they do, due to a quirk in their programming that gives them much more independence than the average battle droid. (Maybe this quirk also causes them to shoot off sparks, hence another reason for their name?)
Sparks is incredibly loyal, too- they see General Grievous as a hero, and they really idolize him in particular. So, when he ends up personally promoting them, they are thrilled.
They go on serving for a while- they're smart enough to avoid Jedi, use cover to their advantage, and other things that most battle droids are too dumb to do. They start to become more cynical, less cheerful and more sadistic and sarcastic. Strangely, their superiors seem to welcome this behavior, even encouraging it. (hmm)
Because of all of this, the droid survives until near the end of the war. This is when they're promoted again, and their memories and personality are transferred into a new body. (If you're a SW nerd, or you just want to look it up, their new body is an ST-series tactics droid.)
This is when things start to change. They're essentially given full sentience and independence- after all, a general needs to be able to adapt to the situation, use their knowledge to their advantage, and other things that require sentience.
With all of their limits removed, they start to become suspicious of the way they climbed the ladder. After all, they have access to the entire Separatist database now; no other droid has risen through the ranks like they have. So, they start digging.
Eventually, they discover that their entire life has basically been an experiment by General Grievous. He wanted to see if experience would benefit a droid like it would benefit a human, and having another sentient droid general could prove very useful- provided they remained loyal.
This, of course, enrages them. All this time, they pratically worshipped Grievous, and this is how he repays them?! So, they devise a plan.
They're going to defect.
They aren't enough of a fool to go straight over to the Republic, though. They know they'll just be killed, and that isn't nearly enough payback for their tastes. Instead, they're going to make their way to Coruscant, stowing away on a Republic ship that they know is going back to the city. Then they'll hack into the Republic database- trivially easy for a droid with their skills- and feed useful intel to them.
They quietly gather information for months. Their superiors are none the wiser; the time arrives, and they execute their plan.
Of course, something goes wrong, as it always does. They are discovered on the ship. One thing they didn't include in their calculations was the droid that found them- probably another one that's basically sentient. Maybe R2? Before this other droid can alert anyone, Sparks dumps their entire database into their systems, trying to prove that they really have defected.
To their amazement, it works. After sorting through the flood of information, the other droid decides that they probably don't want to hurt anyone- at least, not anyone in the Republic.
I'm not sure what happens after this, but somehow, they end up serving alongside some clones. They sort of become the de facto leader of this squad; after all, as Rex says, experience outranks everything.
Their clone buddies (probably shinies on their first mission) very much look up to them and try to impress them. At first, they discourage this, but eventually they get Attached(tm) and become the cynical, sarcastic team parent. Or big sibling; I'm honestly not sure yet, but I'm looking forward to writing them.
Then Order 66 happens. They're incredibly confused, and since no one can give them a satisfying answer for anything, they basically kidnap their squad and defect. They already went through this with the Seppies, thank you very much.
They're very competent, so they might be able to get rid of their children/brothers' chips. On the other hand, they don't know about the chips yet, and the clones know them pretty well by now. They might get gunned down as a traitor.
They might also get hunted down by the Empire, even if they do manage to save the clones. I have a feeling Palpatine would definitely want to tie that loose end up. They could also end up slaughtering the clones and trying to make it on their own! So many exciting possibilities for angst.
