Prologue
Simon and Harley Miser.
Ice and Sun. More different than anything, yet twins. Friends would call them Snowmiser and Heatmiser.
And it wasn't just their personalities that reflected that. They were special. They had powers.
Harley was bright, popular, and well-liked in the school. With his pyrokinesis, he allowed people the flock around him in admiration. Dark, curly hair and fierce, amber eyes. He seemed to mistake himself for a god at times. He was arrogant, much to the annoyance of his twin.
Simon was much more reserved than his brother. He preferred to be left alone in the park and draw. He was never as popular as his brother, and always seemed to be the black sheep of the family. He had cryokinesis, making him seem unfriendly at times. With flowy, blonde curls and silvery-gray eyes, he was a lanky figure that could easily find himself smacking his head on tree branches.
Many would think that, despite their differences, they were still brothers. That they still were friendly and familiar with each other.
Many were wrong.
It was always to the dismay and frustration of their mother, Natalie Miser. She was a phytokinesis-wielding woman with a gentle demeanor, but a strict temper. Many times, she had to summon vines to cover up her sons' mouths and tell them to relax.
It was usually chaos in their house. Though, the twins' powers never were used upon each other. Well...
~~~
"Get out of my life, you b!tch!" The hothead screamed, pushing the ice-cold twin back. "Why don't you shut up for once in your damn life!?" The latter responded, frost starting to form on his ears.
As usual, the twins had gotten into a screaming match, but this one seemed... different. More indignant. More hateful.
Flames began flickering in Harley's hair as his breathing became rash and heavy. "God, you're so useless! Why do people even put up with you!?" He yelled. Simon clenched his fist until his nails cut his palms. "Hey, say what you want about me, but at least my power can be used to help people! What does yours do for them? Freeze them to death!?" He continued.
At this point, neither even remembered what they were arguing about.
"Don't give me that sh!t!" Simon yelled back, his voice becoming strained. "No one actually likes you! They just fear you!" He felt evil for saying that, but he didn't even care anymore.
Harley laughed, though the comment really did sting. "And you think YOU'RE any better!? There's a reason Mom doesn't even LIKE HAVING YOU AROUND!"
Frost began curling around his face, making Simon look like a malicious snowflake. "You're the worst brother I've ever known."
Fire suddenly burst in Harley's hands. "I HATE YOU."
Then...
Screams suddenly filled the air. Not angry ones. Ones of pain. Flames traced along the ice-bearer's face and body. The crowd cried out in horror, racing away from the fire. The pyrokinetic stared, attempting to control the flames. Simon stumbled back, hitting a wall and crying out in agony.
Harley didn't mean to. This wasn't supposed to happen.
