I'm Missing One Thing

Ding. Ding.

A soft ring of a bell was heard on the place, indicating an entrance of a new guest. A young lad with a short frame stood, rather too stiff for his own good, welcoming the customer that has arrived.

"W-Welcome to the Baltic Coffee Shop! G-Good mornin--. Ah! I interchanged the greeting! I'm so sorry!" The barista said in a soft, horrified tone which made the customer chuckle in return.

"It's alright! Haha. Good morning, too, uh..." Toris squinted a bit more to see the name of the obviously new barista, "...Raivis." He acknowledged as he gave a small smile. "Now, is Eduard here? I'd like to order the usual."

"Oh! Sir Eduard. Please wait a minute!" said Raivis as he walked away from the counter and called for his senior at the shop.

A while after, 'Eduard' came out of the pantry, a knowing kind smile painted upon his visage that seemed to brighten a bit more after seeing his client. "Toris! Long time no see!" The bespectacled guy exclaimed.

"I've been here yesterday, remember? Now for my order..."

"Oh! The usual, right? I got it," he nodded, "ah! By the way, this is Raivis, a new barista. Raivis, this is Toris, a regular customer who likes his own macchiato perfect with chocolate and caramel syrup on top, matching a small cup of milk and three cubes of sugar on the side. Also, a slice of sansrival. Take note of that!"

"Yes!" The shorter male agreed enthusiastically, "Sir Toris, sorry for being a klutz a while ago. We will shortly attend to your drink. Please do have a seat on your desire and we'll bring you your order in a while." He gave a cheerful but timid smile.

"Sure." The Lithuanian then went to his usual spot at the shop; at the left corner of the entrance where he can have the pleasant view of the sunflower painting right across his seat. Well, he liked it. He still managed to hear Eduard's remark on Raivis for delivering his 'lines' perfectly and the latter's bashful 'thank you'.

He then settled on the aforesaid place; a soft cushion comforting him as he sat down the wooden chair that had beautiful patterns intricately carved at the opaque surface. He put his laptop over the wooden table that matched his seat and turned it on. Slipping his reading glasses on, he scrolled past his files, opened one, and began his pending work.

Ding. Ding. Another guest.

"...Like, right? I seriously need to be a part of that project! It's a dream! Haha. Okay, okay. I'm finally here. I hope your suggestion is as great as you said. Bye~!" a thick, Polish-accented voice was heard on the quiet place. He was recently holding his cellular phone which he put at his pants' pocket after that call from his friend.

He hummed his way towards the counter and took a good look at the menu -- which was a long, rectangular blackboard illuminated by soft, white lights that showcased all the available beverages and desserts written by colorful chalks. So cute~, he thought as he heard a welcome greeting from one of the coffee shop's baristas. He gave a cheerful smile and ordered a cappuccino topped with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and a piece of cherry. He also added a slice of that cute chocolate cake he saw at the display, and noted to the attendant that he wanted extra cherries on top.

"Oh! Is that you, Toris?!" He almost screamed. The mentioned male moved his gaze from his laptop screen to the blond male who is now in front of his table.

"Uh. Who are you?" He queried as he removed his glasses and glanced at him quizzically.

"Aw. I'm hurt! I'm Feliks! Your co-worker! Rememb--?"

"Excuse me. Sir Toris, here's your order." Raivis unintentionally interrupted, bringing the Lithuanian's order. "Please do enjoy your drink!" He bowed slightly as he went off.

"Oh~ macchiato. Good choice." Feliks commented, "anyhow, try to remember my name now, okay? I'm going to my table over there." He pointed suggestively to the far right side of the shop, just completely opposite to the brunette's seat.

"Uh...okay?" Toris awkwardly mumbled as he looked at his drink. Good choice. Is it really? He can't help but chuckle a bit as he dropped a sugarcube onto his coffee and stirred it. He took another interested glance at the Polish man while sipping on his macchiato. Afterwards, he put his glasses back on and proceeded on his unfinished work.

Feliks, on the other hand, cannot help but smile on the lucky encounter.

To be honest, he had his eyes on Toris for a while now. Last month, he got accepted on the same company as the Lithuanian. The latter was on a higher position than him, but it didn't fazed Feliks to lay his eyes on the handsome man on their first meet -- well, completely on Feliks's part, since he just got the courage to talk to Toris as of today.

He was glad that he listened to his friend's recommendation on this quaint coffee shop near their workplace. Now, he guessed he won't have boring mornings anymore.

...And he looked forward in seeing the Lithuanian first thing in the morning.

"Sir Feliks, here's your drink. Have a nice day ahead!" A bespectacled man smiled as he laid down the blond's exact order. The barista-slash-serviceman was about to walk away but was halted by the Polish's discreet tug at his uniform's cuffs.

"Hey, uhh..." He took a glance at his nametag, "...Eduard. May I take some of your time?"

The said man glanced around the shop, checking if it was alright to take a small break, "sure, what is it?" He asked after confirming that it was.

"Is Toris a regular here?"

"Hmm? Yeah! Why'd you ask?"

He shifted at his seat, trying to shake off his giddy feeling upon knowing so, "is that what he always orders here?"

Eduard nodded, "it's his favorites. He would never order any other. Maybe because he has a weak stomach for stronger coffees. It's always his same old macchiato with a hint of chocolate and caramel plus a cup of milk and three sugarcubes on the side. Oh. And also a slice of sansrival!"

He nodded in amazement of Eduard's memory, or maybe Toris's loyalty on his order. He almost giggled at the thought. "Look, I want to like...totally get his attention. Would you help me out?" He pleaded with his emerald eyes.

In which Eduard excitedly nodded in agreement, "oh. Oh!" He chuckled lightly. "Of course! What would you want me to do?"

Feliks let him sit at the opposite chair in front of him and leaned down against his ear, "okay. Here's the plan..."

The following morning.

Feliks cannot help but let out a snicker towards the sight in front of him as he sipped on his cappuccino. He had actually managed to get Toris's attention, well, not directly to him but...

What happened? Well...

"The chocolate is missing!" The Lithuanian male whined as he gave the coffee back to Raivis (who was slightly horrified at the event) and requested for a new cup.

When Toris got to the coffee shop, he was surprised to see a set of snacks at his table -- with his name scribbled on a piece of notepad. For me? He thought as he inspected the order.

Sansrival, check.

Three sugarcubes, check.

A cup of milk, check.

He smelled the cup of coffee, and satisfied that it was a macchiato. Another check.

There was also a hint of caramel that came to his sense of smell. Check.

But apparently, he knew that the drink was missing one thing; thus, the situation on hand.

"We're so sorry! There might have been a mistake!" The young boy profusely bowed at Toris, in which the latter immediately told him to stop and just give him another cup.

"Who gave this order anyway?" He silently mumbled to himself as Eduard came back with a new cup of macchiato. The newly entered barista chuckled at Toris's cute whine and glanced at the general direction of the Polish man who gave him the instructions.

Feliks can't help but squeal, although a little, to the Lithuanian's adorable and noticeable pout on his face. He never expected Toris to have that undeniably cute reaction, for he thought that the latter might just throw an angry fit to the mysterious giver, a.k.a., himself.

He finally finished his drink and chocolate cake so he proceeded to stand up. This didn't came unnoticed to Toris, who had been eyeing him suspiciously. Well, he was the only one who apparently have the knowledge that he often lounged here prior to going to their workplace on the next building.

Feliks saw this and waved at him cheerfully as he opened the shop's door. After stepping outside, he gave the Lithuanian a small wink.

Did he just...

"Yeah. He was the one who gave your order." Eduard commented as he saw the small exchange between the two. Toris was, well, shocked on this turn of events.

Although, he thought to himself:

Two can play this game.

The following mornings went the same way, with both Feliks and Toris having a missing ingredient or part of their usual order.

It was hilarious, at least on Eduard's part who had been the accomplice of both parties for the conspicuous exchange of incomplete setup.

Raivis, on the other hand, never had the chance to know what was happening but had a conjecture about it. He never got his hands on making orders for the customers, for it was Eduard who insisted on doing that. Also, he didn't liked the idea of doing a hard task at his only first couple of weeks in the quaint, small shop. The little male also got used to this small morning chaos that he shall deal with every. single. day since he was hired here at the Baltic Coffee Shop.

The sudden shift of happenings irked Toris at first, but now, he completely felt that this was a routine that he might get used to.

Well, at least this was effective on Feliks's part. He noticed that the Lithuanian would often glance at him now. A knowing smirk on the brunette's face as he munched on a small piece of sansrival which was today's missing one, knowing that Feliks had got his order except the cherries on top.

It was a habit that they had developed inside this coffee shop. Albeit unusual on normal people's part, this was an exchange that is perfectly common and exclusive to the two of them.

...And both can admit that they liked it.

One day, the shop was filled with cheerful noises, clacking of cups and plates, and many customers that were all having their morning conversations. The place was practically full, much to the staff's delight. This coffee shop had gotten popular recently due to features on many food blogs, particularly on the field of drinks and dessert. Eduard even thought of expanding his business.

Ding. Ding.

Toris came to the shop, expecting his table to have the notorious missing-one-ingredient meal again. He didn't failed, though, for there sat a cup of macchiato and a plate of sansrival. He inspected the contents, and was surprised with the sudden turn of events.

The pre-ordered meal was perfect.

It was his own macchiato with chocolate and caramel syrup on top, a small cup of milk and three cubes of sugar on the side. Also, a knowing slice of sansrival.

He glanced at Feliks, who was currently on his phone, having a cheerful expression painted upon his face. It seemed that he got a call.

He was about to settle down the place when he noticed one thing was missing.

I knew it. He sighed, why would I expect it to be complete?

That one thing that he was missing?

He had no chair to sit on.

Great. He grunted as he took a look around. There were no more vacant tables since the shop was practically at full house. I cannot take it out, too. He gazed around again, surprised that there was an available seat.

Right in front of Feliks.

Just. Great. The blond finally finished his talk on his phone as he met the brunette's gaze on him. He gave a knowing smile on Toris as he bit on his cherry, seemingly inviting the latter.

The Lithuanian carried his tray carefully and stood in front of the Polish. "Is this seat available?" He asked.

"Oh. Of course." Feliks cheerfully smile as he gestured on the seat in front of him. Toris settled himself, putting his gaze on the cream-colored wall behind the guy in front of him. It might be just his new favorite part of the shop.

"Hey Toris."

"Yes?"

"Thank you for the past orders. Even though they're like...so incomplete every single time." The Polish chuckled. "Sorry for your inconvenient mornings as well."

"No! It's alright! Just, uh..." Toris replied as he dropped two cubes of sugar on his drink, he felt the need of more sweetness on his beverage, "that's just a retaliation on what you did first," he mumbled as he gave an adorable pout that came unnoticed to Feliks. The Lithuanian looked up at the man in front of him, "so, this is our first official conversation, yes?" He held out his hand that was previously holding his cup of macchiato, "I'm Toris Laurinaitis. Nice finally meeting you, I guess?" The brunette smiled at him.

The Polish cannot help but blush a bit, a tinge of pink adorning his cheeks, "I-I'm Feliks Łukasiewicz. Nice meeting you, too." He held Toris's hand firmly, finally feeling his hand upon his own. It feels nice, he thought. He might just get used to this in the near future.

Eduard halted on his work and glanced at the two, a satisfied smile on his face. Finally, he thought as he held out another cups of drink to a couple of males that are commenting about how amazing that this shop got tea for the guy who had funny, thick eyebrows. He had a bespectacled company who had a goofy grin on his face as his blue eyes glinted in happiness while he was looking at the eyebrow-guy.

Seems like coffee wasn't just the only thing that brewed in this place, but also, newly found romance of customers who visit the said coffee shop.

End.
