In a prestigious house where a couple had a baby boy name named Ace and he was raised on his own since he was eight years old since his parents were lacking presence to most his life, He even wondered of his parents ever loved him until one day his life turn one eighty when he heard the news about his parents passed away due to a car accident so now he's been alone with his butler who helped enroll to Duel Academy three years later.

An eleven-year-old Ace wasn't like the boy that you know nowadays; before he became the person he is, he's constantly often getting bullied for not living up to his parents' expectations or for being soft the only thing he had left from his family was a white stuff bear.

"Hey Agreste, let's duel, I bet that you're not as strong as your father" a bully said as Ace looks down and hugs his plush bear close before another bully snatched the bear out of Ace's hands. 

"Hey give it back!" Ace said as he tried to reach out to his teddy but the bully's taller than Ace so it's a problem.

"Aw the baby's scared, not so powerful, huh? then duel if you win you will get your bear back" the second bully said.

"Yeah, and you have to face us both at the same time!" the first bully then said.

"b-but I don't know the rules, yet or how each type of card works" Ace then said.

"Well too bad, you're about to learn it the hard way" the bully said as they giggled evilly, and they activate their duel disk.

Ace looks at the two duelists terrified "Back off Shuji!" a pitch female voice which the two bullies turn and see a young Celina standing there with her arms crossed.

"Celina? this is none of your business, get lost!" the bully named Shuji yelled as the indigo hair girl who then looks at Ace.

"Hey kid, are they bothering you?" Celina then asked ignoring the bully completely.

"Hey, we're talking to you!" the second bully yelled at Celina for ignoring them.

Ace nodded "they took my teddy, and they won't take it back till I agree to duel but I don't know much of the rules" he explained.

Celina glares at the bullies "seriously targeting on a inexperienced, what's with you!?"

"Oh, shut up Celina, inexperience duelists are nothing but weak" Shuji stated as his brother Akira laughs along with him.

Celina walks up to Ace "what's your name?"

"A-Ace...Ace Agreste" Ace introduces himself.

Celina gives him a small smile "Well Ace, I'm Celina and since you don't know much about dueling how about we team up and face these bullies" she asked.

"r-really?" Ace questioned with shock which Celina nodded.

"yeah I am, I can teach you the ropes, and if you're lucky, I might as well challenge you to a friendly sparring match" she joked making Ace giggle a bit.

"Whatever, he's just going to drag you down, Celina" Akira said.

Celina smirked "I doubt that, because I have faith in my teammates, regardless of how experienced they are" she said as she activates her duel disk.

Ace picks up his duel disk and places it in his left arm and it lights up the body folded out just like his, except the blade that materialized was different than any of them have seen. The main part of the blade was straight while each of the ends had a large circular end with wings-like flair to them. It had a hot-pink outline with patterns similar to the stylization of the Nazca Lines.

"O-Okay... I-I'm ready!" Ace shyly stated.

Celina nodded "that's the spirit" she cheered

"Doesn't matter how different his duel disk looks we will still beat you" Shuji said as now the whole cafeteria were moving the tables and chairs away from the four duelists.

"Let's duel!" they yelled as the duel starts.

Shuji & Akira: 4000
Celina & Ace: 4000

Celina places a hand on Ace's shoulder "allow me to take the first turn so that you can see the different types of Cards I'll be using, alright?" she said as Ace nods "alright then, to start this duel off I'll be setting one card face down and then I summon Lunalight Blue Cat!"

Lunalight Blue Cat: Atk/1600

"With that I end my turn!" Celina said "show us what you got boys" she then challenged the bullies.

"You'll wish you'd never stood up to that loser, I summon Insect Knight" Akira said as his monster appeared to the field.

Insect Knight: Atk/1900

"His monster has more attack points than Blue Cat" Ace stated worriedly.

Celina looks at Ace and give him a assurance smile "don't worry Ace, I'm aware of it that's why I have the face down card because the opponent will not know what will hit them" Celina explained.

"Now Insect Knight is catnap time for Lunalight Blue Cat!" Akira said as his monster charges at Celina's which it gets destroyed Celina didn't budge.

Celina: 4000 - 3700

"I end my turn let's see what you can do little mouse" Akira taunted at Ace.

Ace looks at his cards nervously and slams a random card to the disk out of fear as a white fur monster appeared in the field.

Absol: Atk/2300

Celina Akira and Shuji looked at the Monster with shock "twenty-three hundred!?" they stated with disbelief.

"Ace what does your monster do?" Celina asked the Cyan-hair boy.

"My monster?" Ace asked back confusedly.

"Doesn't it show in the card what the monster can do" Celina explained.

Ace looks at the card in his duel disk "its name is Absol and the card said that it can also be summon when there are no monsters on my field" Ace said not understanding

Celina smiled "Ace some monsters like Absol and Blue Cat have something call special abilities, each monster has a unique ability that it could be helpful for you or a downfall for your opponent in this Case Absol being summoned without needing to tribute-" Celina explained but stopped when she realized that the card said that Absol is a level four monster "Okay I don't see that coming" Celina then said.

"What's wrong? i-is it bad" Ace asked.

"No Ace is the contrary I'm just surprised seeing A level four monster with such attack points" Celina explained assuring the shorter boy.

"Well, if you're gonna tell me that I have to attack well I can't...it said when Absol is special summoned it can't attack in the turn is special summoned" Ace then said "I end my turn" Ace said disappointedly as Absol howls and Lunalight Blue Cat reappeared but her attack points are double.

Lunalight Blue Cat: Atk/1600 → 3200

"I see when the turns over Absol can also bring back a monster from the graveyard with double of its attack points, you're good, Ace" Celina complimented the Cyan hair boy.

"R-Really?" Ace questioned with shock.

Celina nods "Definitely" she responded.

"Don't celebrate just yet just because you have higher attack points! I draw!" Shuji said as he drew a card "To make thing interesting I activate three Banners of courage! these cards will give our monsters two hundred points since there are three of them Our monster will get six hundred" he explained "next I summon Baby Dragon in defense mode!" he added as a orange dragon appeared in the field.

Baby Dragon: Def/700

"Now Insect Knight take out Absol!" Shuji continued as 

Insect Knight: Atk/1900 → 2500

Ace seemed scared but hears a hum echoing in his head as he sees a ghostly like creature that kind of reminds him of a child and pointed on the cards that has its face in it.

"Huh? this must be it; I activate this monster's special ability! it says that it'll take your spell cards from your side of the field and put them on our side on the field turning that the Banners of courage are now working in our favor" Ace said

Insect Knight: Atk/2500 → 1900

Absol: Atk/2300 → 2900

"Oh, and I can get to summon it too, come on Marshadow!" Ace stated as he summoned a new monster to the field.

Marshadow: Atk/1900 → 2500

Absol's horn light up and slashes Insect knight in half as it turns into bits of golden dust as Akira gets sent back.

Akira: 4000 - 3400

"Hey what side are you on" Akira asked.

"Shut up, they just got lucky, I end my turn!" Shuji said

Absol: Atk/2900 → 2300

Marshadow: Atk/2500 → 1900

"Okay time to put you two on time out is my turn!" Celina draws a card she looks at it and smirked.

the bullies see the look on her face and get nervous "Should we be scared bro?" Akira asked Shuji.

"How should I know" Shuji said.

"Allow me, First I summon Lunalight Purple Butterfly!" Celina stated as she summons a new Lunalight monster.

Lunalight Purple Butterfly: Atk/1000

"I activate the spell card Lunalight fusion, with the ferocious claws of one monster with the poisonous sent of another, I can create a new Lunar Legend!" Celina explained as Blue Cat light up in blue color while Purple Butterfly lights up in red as they both merges into a sphere of light "I Fusion Summon! Lunalight Cat Dancer!" Celina stated as a bigger humanoid monster appeared behind Celina.

Lunalight Cat Dancer: Atk/2400

"Now Lunalight Cat Dancer attack Baby Dragon! With her special ability it can attack twice, although the first attack you monster doesn't get destroyed but it deals you a hundred points of Damage but then Baby Dragon gets destroyed the second time" Celina said as Lunalight Cat Dancer does exactly that Celina explained.

Shuji: 4000 - 3900

"I'll be ending my turn with one card face down" Celina finished her turn "Let's see if you can handle us know" she then added.

"Akira draw!" Shuji commanded.

Akira glares at his bro "don't tell me what to do" he said before drawing a card "I summon another Insect Knight in attack mode" Akira said.

Insect Knight: Atk/1900

"Now I activate the spell monster reborn, this card allows me to bring back the insect knight you destroyed" Akira explained.

2nd Insect Knight: Atk/1900

"Next I activate the spell Polymerization this card allows me to fusion summon a monster! I fuse my two Insect Knights with my insect Queen from my hand! I fusion summon! Perfected Insect Queen!" Akira stated.

"Now my queen can attack your little runt Marshadow for stealing our banners!" Akira said as his monster charges.

Celina smirked "I activate the trap Mirror Force" Celina stated as he facedown card raises up "this will automatically destroy your monster and you can do nothing about it" She explained as the Insect Fusion Monster gets shattered in pieces shocking the two of them making Akira growls in anger.

"How dare you destroying my Monster, now we're calling it even!" Akira yelled as he grabs Ace's stuff bear and tears it in half shocking the Cyan boy.

Ace look down with shock and his arm begins to flash in a purple color which nobody in the cafeteria noticed as his eyes turns dull while tears begin to roll down his face.

"I end my turn" Akira finished

the place begins to turn dark as Ace looks at the bully with a noticeable angry expression "Now I'm mad" he said as he draws a card "I summon Honchkrow!"

Honchkrow: Atk/1700

"Next I activate the spell Polymerization! Now I can fuse my Honchkrow with my Marshadow, I Fusion summon!" Ace stated as a shadowy monster appears from behind Ace "time to walk in when your nightmare becomes a reality, the Nightmare of the Skies...Yvental!" Ace stated.

Yvental: Atk/3400

"I activate Yvental's special ability, by discarding one card from my hand to the graveyard Yvental can attack you both at once and let's not forget about the Courage boost" Ace explained with a intimidating smile and begins to... Ballet Dance.

Celina looks at Ace surprised 'Woah what just happened to him is like he just become a whole different person' she thought.

Yvental: Atk/3400 → 4000

Lunalight Cat Dancer: Atk/2400 → 3400

"Now Yvental finish this turn in one swing! Oblivion Wing!" Ace yelled as his fusion monster fires a red beam of its chest at the two bullies and beat them one shot.

Akira: 3400 - 0 
Shuji: 3900 - 0

Ace gives the bullies a vow "That is all thank you so much!" Ace said as the glowing mark on his arm disappeared.

Ace looked up confusedly as the room clears up again as the duelist were muttering to each other which confuses the cyan hair boy 'What did I just do?' he questioned himself as he looked at the teared teddy and picks it up from the ground as the bullies noticed that Ace was standing close to him, and they ran away out of fear.

And that same moment, in his first duel became the mark of birth of the Dark Bird.

Ace's currently sitting alone because ever since his duel with those bullies no one ever came across Ace to challenge him to a duel because they're afraid that they will end up like Akira and Shuji who three days after the duel they dropped out of Duel Academy Ace's been avoided by most of the class but he gives up trying so he boredly eat his banana when he sees a food stray in his table and he looks up and sees a tall teenager with gray hair and green eyes

"Hey, you must be the famous Dark Bird I heard from most of the school" he said.

"S-Skylar Kazami" Ace said with awe.

Skylar chuckled "you know me?"

Ace nodded "mhm! I heard stories about you, you were one of the top three best duelists in the senior class" he said as Skylar smiled.

"I'm flattered that you heard about me" he said as he sits down "so Ace, this must be sudden, but I have a study section for duelists like you and me, I was wondering if you're willing to take those classes, Ace?" he then asked.

Ace thought for a moment and nods to himself "I'll be taking you up that offer, I mean... I don't have many friends" he said.

"What about that girl who you teamed up with that Day, Celina was her name?" Skylar asked.

Ace shakes his head "I haven't seen her most of the days, she seemed willing to do it if only her friends let her" he explained with a pout.

"Well, what about that one" Skylar asked pointing at a purple-ish pink hair boy around Ace's age sitting on the bench outside of the academy.

"I think I can talk to him; I just hope he's not afraid of me like everybody else" Ace said.

"Alright our sections starts tomorrow, why don't you introduce yourself to him" Skylar said as he gets up and he walks off with his stray and Ace looks at the boy with a smile full of newfound hope and leaves with his stray with him.

A little boy looks at the ground peacefully until he sees a pair of shoes and look up and sees Ace standing in front of him.

"Hi, I'm here to make you my new friend" he said surprising the purple boy which he then sees Ace reaching a handout to him "My name is Ace, Nice to meet ya!" he said.

the boy seemed hesitant but reaches his hand to Ace and shakes it "I-I'm Yuri" he shily said

"Yuri? that's a cool name!" Ace stated happily "let's be friends, okay?" Ace said which Yuri smiled and nods.

"Okay...Ace"

two years lates since Ace and Yuri became friend recently heard the news about David leaving the Fusion Dimension to live in the standard dimension, as currently Ace was walking out of class and by walking, I mean skipping out of class to meet up with his new friend when two guards blocked Ace's path which made the Cotton Candy boy look at them confused as they take him.

"Where are we going? I didn't do anything this time, I swear!" Ace stated.

when they arrived, they entered a lab and tied Ace in a chair and "I'm not supposed to be here, I'm supposed to be meeting up with a friend and-"

then Leo Akaba walked in "begin the experiment" he said to the doctor.

"Yes sir" he said.

"Huh? what experiment what are you planning to do?" Ace questioned.

"This doesn't concern you" the guard said before putting a helmet that covers Ace's eyes and walks out of the room leaving Ace be.

"Now Ace what kind of power you possess" the doctor said to himself as he starts to type some buttons and Ace begins to feel electric shocks as he screamed in pain.

"There's nothing, sir" the doctor said to Leo Akaba.

"Keep it going I want him to make that mark appear" Leo instructed as the professor continued as Ace was arching his back but he couldn't get off because his arms and legs were trapped on straps that are attached to the chair.

"P-Please... s-stop this!" Ace begged.

"Sir there isn't any energy signal coming from him" the doctor informed.

"Higher up the frequency!" he angrily demanded "I'm not stopping until I see what I thought I see in his arm" he added.

"b-but professor" the doctor hesitantly said but Leo cut him off.

"Do it!" He yelled which the doctor sighed and raise the frequency Making Ace scream with Agony.

"P-Please! I'm begging you!" Ace begged while tears were rolling down his face as his arm begins to glow "P-Please!" Ace yelled and the shock gets more intense making him scream louder.

Leo sees the arm and looks at the book "just as I thought...he has the Dark Signer mark" he said before closing the book "Shut it down and release him, I'm done what I'd search for" Leo said before leaving.

"Y-Yes sir" the doctor said before shutting the Electric chair down.

Ace hung his head low as then feeling the straps loose and the helmet off him as the guards dragged him out and throw him out of the lab like a rag doll for Ace sight, he sees pretty blurry and passes out.

Ace flutter his eyes as he slowly opens them "ce...ace...Ace!" Ace hears his friend Yuri's voice and sees him once he sees clearly.

"Y-Yuri?" he asked "where am I?" he added.

"In the infirmary, I saw those guards throwing him out, I asked them but didn't budge to answer" he said.

Ace sits up but Yuri stops him "no need Ace, you need to rest, you're terminated from the exam you have to wait for another year..." Yuri said.

Ace sighed sadly "I just...want to be useful...Leo Akaba...he was there, I was sitting on a electric chair, I tried to analyze the room, but my eyes were covered, I'd beg them to stop but they're like trying to look for something from me...I was scared Yuri, what if...w-what if they're going to do it again?" he tells him as he tears up and cries.

Yuri looks at his friend concern and anger, but he couldn't do anything about it. Yuri pulls Ace close to him "Ace... I... I'll protect you... I'll take care of you"

Ace looks up at Yuri and smiles "thank you Yuri" Ace thanked him as he hugs him back.

Yuri smiled "you're welcome...cupcake" he said making Ace wide his eyes with shock and blushes a bit before giggling.
