Chapter 8: A Family Reunion
"Humans always feel worried. They're afraid of what they don't understand. They trust the others so easily."~Three
Three's P.O.V.
When the sun began to rise, I stood up and walked towards my sleeping teammates.
"Wake up, Uchiha." I said, poking Itachi's forehead. He caught my fingers and glared at me. I chuckled.
"Sharky, wakey-wakey!" I half-yelled, kicking Kisame's body. He groaned, but he didn't wake up.
I facepalmed.
"Itachi, I'm going to find breakfast, okay? I want to hunt some sharks." I announced.
Kisame's eyes snapped open and he immediately tackled me to the ground, glaring at me, while holding a kunai near my neck. "If you hurt any shark, I'll kill you." he growled.
I laughed at his reaction. Itachi chuckled in amazement.
"Genius." the Uchiha muttered.
"Wait. What was that supposed to mean?!" Kisame demanded.
"That means... I woke you up!" I cheered.
"You're not serious?"
"Of course not!" I said, still laughing.
He let out an irritated sigh.
"You're crazy, you know that?" he stated.
"Yes, I know that..." I replied with my puppy dog eyes.
He grunted in response.
"Let's just get going. The sooner we arrived, the sooner we can grab something to eat." he stated.
"You want to buy food at Tamashigakure? Your wallet will suffers, along with your stomach." I told him.
He growled in annoyance.
"Just shut up." he muttered as he began to walk, followed by Itachi.
I let out a soft chuckle as I put on my black cloak and put Renkai on my back.
I pulled up my hood as I mumbled, "I just hope nobody will recognize me."
*Time skip*
At last, we arrived.
"There's no one guarding the gates." Kisame stated. I nodded.
"Just hurry up." I answered as I entered the village.
My teammates let out a small sigh as they followed me.
The village hasn't change. Not a bit.
I pulled off my hood to get a better view of my surroundings.
Yes, I hate this village, but tamashigakure was my home.
A few tears escaped from my eyes.
This place brings back memories.
Although, the last memory I have here, is still the worst.
*Flashback*
I was 8 years old. The best ANBU in this village.
My step mother died 6 months ago, leaving me to work alone for my little step siblings. The clan won't care about us.
I sighed as I put my katana back into its sheath and walked towards my house. It's near the Takanashi clan's compound.
When I entered the house, my eyes widened in shock.
A man, covered in black cloak, is standing in the middle of the room. I couldn't see his face, he's wearing a mask.
He is holding both of my sibling's neck in each hands.
My little brother, Reiji,
and my little sister, Nami,
both of them are struggling for air.
I opened my ANBU mask and glared at him as I reached for my katana.
"What do you want?" I demanded.
He let out a dark chuckle.
"You want to save them, don't you?" he asked.
I nodded my head slowly.
"Then do me a favor. And I'll let your siblings alive." he said.
"What is it?" I asked.
"Kill the Takanashi clan. Now. All of them." he told me.
I gasped. Takanashi... is the clan who adopted me. Reiji and Nami's clan.
"You can choose, which one will die. The clan, or your siblings." he told me, as his grip on my siblings tightened.
"Fine. I'll kill the clan." I answered between my gritted teeth.
"Good girl. Now hurry up, your siblings can't survive without breathing." he replied.
I nodded as I ran towards the clan compound.
When I entered the compound, there was a meeting.
"What are you doing here, monster?!" the leader yelled at me.
"I'm killing everyone." I answered as I lunged at him and stabbed him in his stomach, killing him instantly.
The next thing that I remember, is the blood-curdling scream of the clan's member. None of them tried to fight me back. They know I'm stronger than them. All of them are begging for their lives, but I don't care. I can't risk my siblings's safety.
Once all of them were dead, I burned the whole place.
When I put my katana back into its sheath, the masked man appeared in front of me.
"My prediction is not wrong; you were strong." he stated as his grip tightened. Both of my sibling were gritting their teeth in pain.
"Let them free." I demanded.
He chuckled. "You think you can safe your siblings. You're wrong." he said.
My eyes widen.
He threw both of my siblings's body onto the burning wall, and disappeared.
I hurriedly ran towards them, but the fire got bigger. The roof fell and blocked my way.
I can feel their chakra disappeared.
No...
Reiji... Nami...
They're...
Dead.
*End of Flashback*
I let out a heavy sigh as I stopped in front of the clan's compound. It's empty.
It seems like nobody entered the place for years.
Even after 7 years, the place is still filled with the smell of dead bodies and burnt wood.
The place seemed so... lifeless.
I decided to walk away from the unpleasant sight.
My teammates looked at me in confusion. I glared at them.
And that, is when I heard the voice of my little sister.
I can hear Nami laughing from behind me.
I turned around, to see a 12-years-old girl with bright blue hair, laughing while running around, chasing a white fox.
Once she caught the fox, she turned, and looked at me.
She gasped, her eyes widen in shock.
She dropped the fox and ran at me.
Before I can react, she hugged me tightly.
"N-nami?" I asked quietly.
"Where have you been all these years, Nee-chan?" she asked.
"I'm sorry, Nami. I thought you were dead." I said.
She let go of me and said, "I'm not dead. Nor did Reiji. But the whole clan did."
"Can we talk in... somewhere more private?" I asked.
She nodded. "But how about your friends here?" she asked, pointing at the 2 Akatsuki members.
"They can take care of themselves." I answered.
"It's alright. You can spend a day with your sister. We can continue our mission tomorrow." Itachi told me, making Kisame glared at him.
"Okay." Nami replied, as she walked towards our old home, with the white fox trailed behind her.
I sighed as I followed her. I have a feeling that Reiji will kill me soon.
*Timeskip*
Nami's P.O.V.
I brought Nee-chan to my house. I sat at the dining-table with her.
"Nee-chan, why do you look so down?" I asked her.
She sighed, but smiled sadly at me as she said, "Things have change, Nami. Including you and me."
"Reiji nii-san told me that you're the one who killed the clan. He's lying, right?" I asked her.
She keep silent.
"Nee-chan? Please answer me." I stated.
"He's right, Nami.' she answered quietly.
My eyes widen.
"No..." I mumbled, "But why?"
Hearing my question, she just looked away.
"You don't remember, do you/" she asked back.
I shook my head, as I put my arms on the table, and buried my face on them.
"Can we talk about something else?" she asked.
I looked at her, and nodded.
She smiled softly as she ran her fingers through my long hair.
"I always like your hair. It's very beautiful." she stated.
"But your fluffy ears are better!" I exclaimed.
"What about your fox?" she asked, pointing at the white fox on the couch.
"She's my summoning. Her name is Rin." I told her, "Reiji has one, too. His summoning is a red fox. The name's Rex."
"Do you have any summonings?" I asked her.
"Yeah, I do. But I hardly ever use them." she replied.
"Them?" I asked in confusion.
"Let me show you." she stated, as she performed the hand-signs. "Summoning Jutsu!"
There was a puff of smoke, revealing a big white tiger with dark blue strips. A crow was standing on the tiger's back.
"You called us?' the crow asked.
"I felt no threat here." the tiger stated.
"The crow is Kuro, and the tiger is Zero." Nee-chan told me.
"That rhymes." Kuro stated.
"Is that important?" Zero replied.
"That's why I don't really like to summon them. They keep fighting about useless things." Nee-chan whispered to me. I giggled.
"So, what do we have to do here?" Zero asked.
"Nothing. You're dismissed." my sister answered.
Both of the animals cursed under their breath, and disappeared in a puff of smoke.
"They're so funny! My fox is too shy! She's very quiet!" I exclaimed.
Nee-chan chuckled.
"I'll cook dinner now." I told her as I walked towards the kitchen.
Nee-chan sat in front of the kitchen table.
"So, what rank are you in now?" she asked.
"I joined ANBU a few months ago." I answered.
"Congrats for that." she said.
"And congrats to you too, for being one of the most wanted S-rank criminal, being the best assassin people have ever know, and having the third largest bounty in the bingo books." I replied, showing her my bingo book, with the page of Shadow Hunter's profile showing.
She laughed at this. I've never heard her laugh before, or even see her looked so happy.
What happened in this 7 years?
"I don't even know that. Is that a part of your ANBU training?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No. It's just that the Shadow Hunter doesn't have any information on his bingo book profile, so I think it's you." I explained.
"Am I that awesome?" she asked, chuckling.
I laughed. "Yes, but now you sounds arrogant."
"I'm not arrogant! I'm just overconfident." she stated.
I chuckled as I put the dinner on the table.
"I don't understand why everyone hate you, Nee-chan." I said as I sat down.
She sat in front of me and let out a heavy sigh as she touched her wolf ears.
"I guess they just hate the 'Inu'. A girl with wolf ears and tails is not something you can meet everyday."
"That doesn't answer my question." I stated, frowning.
"Humans always feel worried. They're afraid of what they don't understand. They trust the others so easily. Your mother called me a monster, and everyone believed that I am one. I'm different. I'm a freak. That's why they hate me. And I'm stronger than them. That's why they're scared of me." she explained.
I sighed. "I think you're right. But, why did you say 'humans'?" I asked.
"I'm a half wolf, remember?"
"Oh." I muttered, as I started eating my food.
"Your cooking is getting better, Nami." my sister commented.
I smiled. "Thanks. But I miss yours."
"I'll cook breakfast, then. By the way, about Reiji, what rank is he in now?" she asked.
"He joined ANBU last year. Promoted as the captain last week." I told her.
"That's amazing."
Suddenly, the front door opened, revealing Reiji in his ANBU uniform.
"Nami! I'm home!" Reiji said as he opened his ANBU mask.
His eyes landed on my sister.
Nee-chan dropped her chopsticks.
"What are you doing here?" Reiji demanded.
Third Person's P.O.V.
"I'm sorry, I will leave now." Three stated as she stood up from her seat.
Reiji grabbed his katana and lunged at her.
She didn't dodge hsi attack.
Before anyone can react, he pinned her on the nearby wall.
"You let my father die in a war. You murdered my clan. You leave me and my sister to survive alone for 7 years. Now give me a reason not to kill you!"
Three's face remained emotionless as his sword pointed at her neck.
"Is that all you can see? I can't save your father, I was only 6 years old at that time. I murdered your clan to save your life. I leave you because I thought you were dead." she stated.
Reiji glared at her.
"It's fine if you hate me, I'm used to it." she told him. His glare hardened.
"Kill me, I dare you." she said in a very cold voice.
Reiji's hand is shaking in anger. He gritted his teeth as his grip on the katana tightened.
He was going to stabbed Three, but Nami caught his hand.
"Reiji! What are you doing?!" Nami yelled.
"Why do you still trying to protect this traitor, Nami?!" Reiji yelled back.
Tears began to form in Nami's eyes. Her brother had never yelled at her before.
Reiji, noticing this, hurriedly dropped his sword and hugged his sister, rubbing her back soothingly.
"I'm sorry, Nami, I didn't mean to-"
SLAP!!!
Nami slapped her big brother, hard.
His eyes widen. He never saw his sister so angry before.
"You are so selfish, Reiji. You wanted to kill her just for that? Yes, I understand your feelings, but it's not her fault!"
"We hardly ever meet out father. The one who always stayed in our house, doing all the chores, it's our sister. The war, it's the Ryukage's fault. He's the one who put our father in the front line!"
"Does the clan care about us? When mom's dead, did they take care of us? No! It's our sister, it is her who work very hard just for us!"
"She leaves the village because she thought we were dead. She decided to go because she doesn't want to be reminded of that fact!"
"Now think about this, brother. You hate her because of something that is not her fault. And yet she never hates you, even after you treated her so badly. Who's the monster now?!" Nami yelled.
"Nami, I-" Reiji started, but Nami cut him off.
"Don't apologize to me! Apologize to her!" Nami scolded, pointing at Three.
Reiji walked slowly towards the older girl, and said something the hybrid will never forget.
"I'm sorry, sister. Nami is right - without you, we might have already dead. I'm really sorry - I'm really sorry for what I've done to you." the boy said, bowing his head, not wanting to meet her gaze.
The half-wolf smiled softly as she ruffled his hair. "Reiji, look at me." she called softly. The boy just shook his head lightly. With her fingers, she lifted his chin. A pair of dark blue eyes were staring at her in regret.
"Since the first time, I've already forgive you, Reiji."
Those words hit him hard.
He can't believe how could she never hates him.
"But why? Why don't you hate me? You don't even get angry at me?!" the boy asked unbelievingly.
"That's what big sisters are for, right? That's the exact same way you treat Nami. Nobody can hate their own little siblings." she stated as she pulled him into a hug.
He can't handle this emotion anymore.
For the first time in 7 years,
He cried.
He cried as she hugged him tightly.
"It's alright, little brother. It's alright for you to cry. You can't hide your pain forever. Let it all out." She said soothingly.
It's just like that.
For a few minutes, the girl just stayed in silence, holding her brother.
And there's 5 words from the boy that makes her heart faltered.
"Arigato, Onee-san. I love you."
Kisame's P.O.V.
"What a lovely story." I commented. Itachi just scoffed at me. I chuckled.
Yes, I'm listening to their conversation from the roof.
Okay, scratch that. I'm eavesdropping.
"You should do that with your brother, Weasel." I stated, earning a glare from the Uchiha.
"Shut up, Kisame." Itachi growled.
I smirked. "You're getting more talkative, don't you?"
"Hn." he replied.
My eyes twitched in annoyance.
Old habits die hard? I agree.
Hey! There's the next chapter. If you are wondering, the picture is Nami and Reiji. Nami is on the left and Reiji is on the right. Yeah, they're Hatsune Miku and Kaito from Vocaloid. Who cares? Bye!
