Zara's pov ( a week later )

i was still waiting for Amber's response. i had my phone with me trying to figure stuff out. Laurent didn't catch me and he wasn't even awake when i got back. i got an hour of sleep that night though. i would have to get used to this again. "hey Zara?" i heard him ask. " yeah?" i said. "i have to head out for a little bit. be right back okay?" he said. i looked at him. " where are you going?" i asked. he didn't say anything but he looked down. "what? is it somewhere bad? you can trust me." i said. he glared at me. i used the wrong words. "are you sure about that?" he said. it was almost a growl. i nodded and acted confused. "whats wrong?" i asked. he couldn't have known could he? "then where have you been sneaking off to every night?" he asked. my entire body tensed, my eyes fogged over with tears. "it's nothing." i said. my voice cracked slightly. "why should i trust you right now? first you never told me about you being the phoenix and i asked if you had any secrets, you said no. now your sneaking off? did you really think i would be that stupid?" he yelled. why was this hurting me so bad? my heart just kept shattering. i felt tears falling down my face. i wrapped my arms around myself. suddenly ringing is heard again and Laurent groans. " what is it dad?!" he yells. "I'm a little mad right now yeah what do you want?" he asked. "why do you want to know?" he asked. his voice got calmer for some reason. "yeah it was her but I'm dealing with it." he said. suddenly a beep is heard. "why does he keep hanging up on me like that?" he muttered to himself. i let out a whimper. he looked at me. i looked at the floor. i suddenly felt so broken. why was this happening? "I'm so sorry." i said. " why have you been sneaking out?" he asked. i didn't respond. "why do you keep sneaking out?!" he yelled. he threw something and it broke. it was a plate. i yelped in fear. " i-i thought..." i started. "you thought what?" he said in a growl. "your dad, he sounded so familiar. i keep thinking he's my old boss, so i keep trying to meet with a friend to find out." i said. i covered my mouth with my hands and started silently crying. it went pure silent besides the sounds of me crying. the silence kept going while i cried. it got frustrating. "say something please! yell at me or scream at me please!" i cried. i fell to my knees. "why didn't you tell me?" he asked in a whisper. "because i was scared you'd kick me out and i didn't want to hurt you because i love you!" i screamed without thinking. i froze after i realized what i said. i stood up and just ran. i got onto the top of a building and started running. i kept running. i tripped over myself and fell over hurting my knee more. i yelped in pain. i laid there on a roof crying. "why was i so careless?" i yelled. "Zara?" i heard. i look. Amber. "hey." i said. i sat up and tried to stand up but i hurt myself and fell back down. "what happened?" she asked concerned. she helped me up. "please, not here." i said. she nodded and she carried me to her hideaway place. "so what have you found?" i asked. "first things first, what happened?" she asked. "i tripped on a roof and hurt my knee more." i said. "besides that. i know you to well to know that you wouldn't cry because of a scrape." she said. i sighed. "Laurent found out about me sneaking away. he yelled at me and i broke down and then i accidentally admitted i love him and I'm pretty sure he hates me." i said voice cracking at the end. "well good news is, if he loves you back you'll find out soon enough." she smiled. i sighed sadly. "so what have you found?" i asked again. "well, i couldn't find out if he is in any relationships but, i did find out he has a son." she said. "could you figure out there name?" i asked. she bit her lip and nodded. "it's Laurent." she said. i sighed and put my head in my hands. " had a feeling he was. his dads voice just sounded to familiar." i said. suddenly we heard a noise outside. we grabbed out our knives and got ready just in case. suddenly 5 people surround us. i only had my butterfly knife as well as a Kunai but i was injured. "just like old times huh?" i smirked looking at Amber. she gave me a sly smile. the first few came running at us. i went to cut there face and i almost missed but i cut a small portion. they charged at me fast. i didn't have enough time to dodge fully. he cut my thigh slightly. i charged forward and kicked his chest. he stumbled backwards but he caught himself quickly before i felt a small pain in my other leg. another had charged at me and cut my other leg. i ignored the pain the best i could and charged at one. i could see one wasn't as skilled. his shoes were loosely tied and his clothes weren't on well. i didn't let that distract me though. he also turned his back. i quickly went up behind him. i quickly stabbed his back. he fell over dead after a few seconds. i barely managed to dodge the next guys attack. i looked to see how Amber was doing. she had already killed 2 of them. she wasn't doing to well on the last one. the guy in front of me slashed my stomach and then kicked me sending me flying.  i barely managed to stand up again. the man charged at me. i pulled up my butterfly knife to block the attack. the knife he was using hit the knife. it made a few sparks hit me but that didn't faze me. he used his other hand to try and stab me with another knife but i moved out of the way. i used the end of the knife to hit his head really hard making him dizzy. he stumbled around a little bit. i quickly kicked his back so he fell over and stabbed his back. he died after a few seconds. but then i heard a loud bang. i turned around. the last attacker had a knife in his stomach, but a gun in his hand. everything went in slow motion. i saw Amber falling backwards. i ran to her and caught her before she hit the ground. "Amber, look at me, hey." i said. she looked at me and smiled. "we did it." she smiled. "we did. you did well." i said. i felt tears falling down my face. i wasn't stupid. i had seen this happen so many times. why wasn't i used to it? "please d-don't cry." she said. she coughed slightly. "i can't loose you too." i said. she laughed. "you should be used to this." she smiled. "tell out friends i said hello up there okay?" i said. i gave the strongest smile i could give. she nodded slightly before her eyes glazed over. and her body went limp. i screamed and sobbed. i looked at her attacker who was already dead. "i hope you burn in hell." i said. i walked up to him after setting her body down carefully and kissing her forehead. i looked at his sweatshirt. i recognized that symbol. it was out agency's symbol. i dropped him. i knew exactly who did this. i suddenly realized the pain i was in. i fell over. my knee was throbbing as well as my legs and my stomach. i used my arm to prop me up. i looked at my stomach. it was bleeding and it wasn't stopping. it wasn't heavy but if i let it do this i might loose a lot of blood. i stood up stumbling around and started walking around. i probably looked i was drunk or something with all the wobbling. i saw Laurent's warehouse. i walked to one side of it. i walked into the opening. i saw him pacing. he saw me. " where have you been? i have been worried sick!" he said. i collapsed to the floor. my vision went blurry but i knew Laurent was in front of me. my hearing was messed up. i could only hear echo's as the world slowly went black.
