Hidden feelings
-Reaper's POV-
Reaper groaned, slowly waking up. His whole body felt like it was on fire. He opened his eyes, quickly shielding them when he realized half of his mask was gone. He growled in irritation, glancing around.
He was in a medical room. There were instruments set up around his bed and there was an IV in his arm. He tried to sit up, but the burning hole in his side prevented him.
"You're alive!" A voice cried and someone grabbed his hand.
He hissed, flinching back from the person's touch. He peered up at them, seeing the soft glow of angel wings.
His eyes widened and he snarled, trying to free himself. He was surprised to find himself held down by the shoulders.
Angela's not strong enough to hold me down.. He wondered, moving his hand. He immediately regretted his decision.
"Stay down if you know what's good for you." Soldier 76 grumbled, gripping Reaper's broad shoulders.
"So you've gone soft... rescued death from death itself." Reaper growled, shaking his hands off his shoulders.
"I could've left you there, you can at least be grateful." Soldier 76 sighed, removing his visor and revealing his pale, scarred face.
Reaper stared at his facial features for a moment, awestruck by how good he looked without that stupid visor. He ripped off what was left of his mask, tossing it aside.
His face was almost exactly the same as it was when he "died". Except that it was a pale brown color, like undead flesh. His eyes were bright yellow and his jaw bone was partially exposed.
Soldier 76 glanced at him.
"You should've. No one would get hurt if I was dead.." Reaper's eyebrows furrowed into a frown.
Soldier 76 groaned, not wanting to admit his real feelings. He eyed Mercy, who tilted her head in confusion. She understood that he wanted her to leave and walked out the door, leaving the two alone.
Reaper growled in pain, sitting up on his bed. His torso was wrapped with bandages and he had multiple stitches in his arms from where Mercy removed the bullets. He pulled the heavy coat off his back, leaving the black combat uniform on.
Soldier 76 broke the silence. "I saved you because I couldn't bear to see you in that condition. I couldn't believe that Talon would toss you away like trash..."
Reaper stopped for a second, analyzing what Soldier just said. "You... you care about me?" He stuttered in disbelief, his anger melting away from him.
Soldier looked into Reaper's eyes, smiling a little. "Of course I do. You were my teammate once, Gabe. And you still are." He reached out his hand.
"Alright Soldier, I don't know what you're on but stop lying to me." Reaper chuckled, taking his hand.
"Call me Jack. Soldier sounds boring." Jack winked, hauling him out of the bed.
"Well then call me Gabe instead of Reaper. Everyone knows the monster by that name." Gabe huffed, straightening his stance.
Mercy entered the room carrying a bottle of antiseptic.
"Gabe, you can't leave just yet. Sit down so I can clean your smaller scratches." She smiled, bringing out a few cotton balls.
"Ugh... Fine Doc." Gabe grumbled, sitting back down on the bed so Mercy could dab at the scratches.
They stung, but Gabe wasn't the type to show pain unless it was unbearable. Once she finished, he stood up and brushed himself off. He noticed that his clothes were caked in blood and grimaced.
"You guys got a shower? I feel disgusting..." Gabe pulled at the dried blood, trying to get it off of him.
"Of course, but I have to escort you. You are our prisoner technically." Jack grinned, pulling him by the shoulder.
Mercy sighed, watching the two leave the Medbay. She went back to clean up the mess from healing Gabe.
Gabe ignored the aching pain in his side while he walked alongside Jack. He was a bit shorter than him, but that didn't stop him from pushing people around. His boots thudded against the floor, tracking a bit of dirt behind.
"Here we are." Jack showed Gabe to the washroom.
"Thanks, do happen to have any spare clothes? Mine, uh, are back at Talon." Gabe chuckled, shrugging his shoulders.
Jack rolled his eyes. "Man, you need everything don't you? I'll be right back." He smirked, walking towards a storage closet.
Gabe looked around, making sure no one was in there before pulling his clothes off. They were stuck to his skin, so he had to rip them off. He kicked them into a pile next to the shower and stepped in, closing the curtain.
He turned the handle, feeling the warm water wash over his cold skin. He washed the dried blood off first, watching the red swirl down the drain. He groaned when he realized he would have to go back for fresh bandages after this.
"Great..." he muttered, picking up the soap bottle and squirting some into his hand.
He ran his fingers through his hair, washing his thick hair thoroughly. He rinsed his hair out, wincing when he got soap in his eye. He followed that with conditioner, rinsing off completely before turning off the shower.
He reached out of the curtain, feeling around for the towel he left nearby. He touched something warm and jumped back, realizing it was someone's hand.
"Gosh Jack! Why you gotta scare me like that?" He growled.
"Well sorry! Here's your clothes and your towel, princess." Jack joked, handing him the towel.
"Don't call me that, Boy Scout." Gabe teased, grabbing the towel and drying off.
He wrapped the towel around his waist, stepping out of the shower. He noticed that Jack was staring at him and he frowned.
"You mind?"
"Oh! No no, go ahead. I totally wasn't admiring your muscles.." Jack mumbled, looking away while Gabe got dressed.
"Seriously? All you have is a sweatshirt and sweatpants? You guys need to upgrade.." Gabe muttered, pulling on the sweatpants.
"I got those just for you. You know that's all you would wear in the old days." Jack chuckled, looking back at him.
"Hmph." Gabe huffed.
"Anyways, you want a room? There's a spare next to mine." Jack winked at him.
Gabe smacked himself in the face. "Of course there is.. Take me to it."
"Follow me." Jack walked out of the washroom.
Gabe ignored the fact that he should get fresh bandages and followed Jack, interested in why he was acting like this.
