Chapter Two
I don't own either PJO, HoO or DC.
It had been around a week since they moved here, to Gotham. Percy'd finally got the hang of things and it was about a month and a half until school started.
It was a Wednesday morning and Percy had just been woken up by her mother.
"Percy, wake up. I know it early-"
Sally was cut off when Percy groaned.
"Why did you wake me?" Percy asked.
"You have to come with me to the station today," Sally said.
"Why?" Percy asked.
"Paul's working late today and I don't want you to be alone," Sally said.
"Fine," Percy said. "When are we leaving?"
"In an hour, so get dressed and come down for breakfast," Sally said.
"Blue waffles?"
"Blue waffles."
Sally left the room and Percy walked to her wardrobe. She took a deep breath and stretched her limbs before finding some clothes to wear. In the end she ended up with a blue T-shirt with denim shorts.
She walked down to the kitchen where a plate of blue waffles awaited her. She sat down on the table and ate her breakfast, still very tired.
"Good morning, Percy," Paul said.
"Good mornings, Paul," Percy replied.
"Tired?" Paul asked.
"Yeah, very," Percy replied.
He laughed lightly before grabbing his bag. "See you tonight." Then he left through the front door.
"Percy, are you finished with breakfast soon?" Sally called out.
"Yeah, Mom, I'm soon finished," Percy replied.
Then Sally walked down the stairs in her normal police uniform that Percy was so used to seeing her in. If Percy were to imagine her mother, she would always see her in a police uniform, it was just a part of who her mother was.
"By the way, the Commissioners daughter will be there as well, she's around your age," Sally said.
Percy's face brightened and she looked up from the plate that she'd been staring at.
-
When Percy climbed out of the car and looked at the police station she was nervous, of course she would be. She was thankful that there was going to be someone else her age there, but she was nervous nonetheless.
Percy followed her mother into the police station and the nervous feeling in her gut only spread. When they'd entered the station Percy looked around. It looked like any other police station would, police walked around, talking. Percy also mother other details, but they weren't necessarily important.
Then Sally pointed at a red headed girl standing in a corner, obviously bored. She wore casual clothes and looked like a normal person would.
"That's Barbara Gordon, the girl I told you about," Sally said.
"Okay," Percy said.
"Come on, Percy. Go and introduce yourself, it's high time you get some friends anyway," Sally said.
"Okay, okay," Percy said.
"Is that all you're gonna say today? Okay?" Sally said, raising an eyebrow.
"No, it isn't," Percy said. "Okay?"
"There you go again," Sally said.
Percy groaned lightly before making her way over to the red headed girl. When she got closer to the girl she saw that her hair was no where close to tame. Her eyes were also blue and her facial expression screamed 'bored'.
"Um, hi? I'm Percy, Percy Jackson," she said.
"Oh! Hi, I'm Barbara Gordon," Barbara said. "And I thought I was going to be alone and terribly bored today."
"I did too," Percy said.
They both laughed and Barbara asked, "You're Sally Jackson's daughter, right? From New York."
"Yeah, that me," Percy said.
"Um, any hobbies?" Barbara said trying to start a conversation.
"Yeah, I do swimming and sword fighting," Percy said. "What about you?"
"I do ballet and martial arts," Barbara said. "Odd combo, I know."
"I won't judge, swimming and sword fighting are an odd combo, too," Percy said, laughing lightly.
Then Percy spotted her mother making her way towards her. Once she arrived at her destination she said. "Percy, I just wanted to tell you, I have to go. I have a case and ... be safe."
"Okay, Mom," Percy said and Sally walked away.
"What's it like? Having a mother that's... present?" Barbara said.
"It's pretty good. You're mother isn't present?" Percy answered.
"No, it's just my dad and I," Barbara answered.
"Huh, for me it's just my mother, step-father and I," Percy said. "Mom says he's lost at sea."
"Oh, my mother just left us," Barbara said.
"Oh, that's sad," Percy said.
"It is, isn't it. Anyhow, what do you think about Gotham so far?" Barbara said.
"It's pretty nice, I guess? A little gloomy, but nice," Percy said.
"It is gloomy, isn't it," Barbara said, looking out of the window. "You know what? Let's prank someone!"
Percy's eyes lit up a little. "Yeah, let's prank someone."
Barbara and Percy sported the same mischievous grin and if anyone was paying attention to them, they would know that this meant trouble.
Okay, did you like the chapter? I certainly enjoyed writing it! So, could I get some advice on how to write Barbara? I've recently started reading the new 52s Batgirl comic series and I've gathered that she'd determined, strong and that stuff, but I would love some help!
