Chapter 2
"I'll tell you everything tomorrow, little brother. You need to rest now, you're already overwhelmed," Angelica soothed.
"But-"
A hand covered his mouth. "It wasn't a request," she said, pushing him down into the sheets. She sat beside him and Logan felt pretty embarrassed. He was a grown man, this was ridiculous. He shouldn't be being tucked in by a woman who didn't even look his age yet.
"I'm a grown fuckin' man," Logan mumbled.
"Do you really want me to go, runt?" Angelica asked, already pretty sure of the answer. "I mean, I locked the door. No one will even know that you were weak around your big sister. Not that anything is wrong with that, but I know your reputation."
Logan didn't need much time to think about his answer. He was already exhausted from the mental stress and Angelica was just so comforting. Everyone else in the mansion had someone to confide in, Angelica would be his. He turned onto his side, away from Angelica, and closed his eyes. Soft humming reached his ears and a hand started to stroke his hair. He was out in a matter of seconds.
It was the next morning when Logan realized his nose was buried in someone's shoulder. That same someone was holding him gently along with snoring quietly into his hair. He started to struggle, not remembering last night. Angelica woke up immediately. "Shh, James. Shh, it's just me," Angelica cooed.
"Angelica?" he asked drowsily. He felt safe. The arm holding him barely reached around him, but he felt like nothing could harm him.
"Yes, runt," Angelica chuckled. "Someone woke up late," she added. The clock on his bedside table read 10:24.
"You were asleep too."
"I've gotten up multiple times, James. Now, don't you think I deserve a proper tour? I'm going to be staying with you until you remember everything, and then some," Angelica said.
"My name's Logan."
"Not to me it isn't, runt."
"Don't call me that, either!" Logan said, his cheeks turning a bit red.
"Hm, how about baby brother?" Angelica smirked, getting up and taking her hair out of the ponytail. The dark curls cascaded wildly down her shoulders until she finger combed them down.
"I think I preferred James," Logan grumbled out. Angelica pressed a sisterly kiss to his forehead just to embarrass him even more.
"That's what I thought," she said, smiling. Logan walked with her down to the kitchen, where he was attacked in a hug by Jubilee.
"I thought you died!!"
"What?" Logan asked. "Darlin', it's way to early for you to be a drama queen."
"You were gone all afternoon! You don't ever just leave!" Jubilee said, her lower lip quivering
"He didn't leave, sweetheart, he was with me," Angelica said, leaning on the doorframe. Scott turned to the newcomer and his hand went for his visors. "Go ahead, lasers, won't even hurt."
"You know this girl?" Scott asked.
"Well, I'm surprised you don't see the uncanny resemblance," Angelica said sarcastically. "I'm his sister. James- Logan, as you call him, is having trouble remembering his past, I'm here to help. Now, laser boy, you're burning your pancake."
Logan snickered at Scott yelped from the pan being on fire. "Oh my god!"
"Dude, you put that on yourself," Hank said.
"You really did. Now, Jubes, lemme go," Logan said, prying at the girl with her arms tightly wrapped around his waist.
"No!" She said into his chest.
"Why not?" Logan asked with a sigh.
"Because I don't want to," Jubilee said.
Logan pried her off himself and put his hand on her forehead to keep her away. "Stay and I'll give you candy."
"Logan you can't keep giving her candy," Hank said, crossing his arms at the mutant.
"Sure I can. Trust me Hank, you would give her candy too," Logan mumbled. Scott was still freaking out about the pan fire and Angelica rolled her eyes.
"Move," she said, grabbing the pan and some salt. She poured the salt in the pan and then took it off the burner. "Let it cool then scrub it. Next time don't be such a dumbass."
"Hey, you can't talk to me like that!" Scott said.
"Sure she can," Charles said, rolling in. "She's older than all of us and much more knowledgable than you. I'm giving you advice, Scott, respect her."
Scott fell silent and Jean kissed his cheek, chuckling at his defeated look. Angelica sat at the island and Kitty sat beside her, trying to figure out a way to speak to the woman.
"Do you have claws too?" She asked.
"Yes," Angelica chuckled, her claws sliding out. "Mine are bone, like James' used to be."
"James? Who's that?" Kitty questioned, tilting her head.
"James- ohh, right. You call him Logan," Angelica chuckled.
"They used to be bone?" Kitty said, her voice quiet as if she was telling a secret.
"Yes," Angelica replied. "What are your powers, little miss?"
"I can phase through anything," Kitty said.
"Sounds cool," Angelica smiled softly before looking out the kitchen. People were starting to buzz about, doing their everyday activities. "Is this what it's like everyday?"
"Pretty much," Kitty said. Then Logan sat on the other side of Angelica.
"I'm stealin' her, sorry not sorry. Bye," Logan said, grabbing her arm and starting to tug her out. Angelica chuckled and walked beside him, deciding not to scold him for being rude and pulling her out of a conversation like he did. "We need to talk."
"I know," Angelica said. "I promised to tell you everything."
"Yeah."
Angelica had her arm hooked with Logan's. "Well, James, where do I begin?" Angelica asked.
"At the beginning. I want to know everything," Logan said as they walked out to the more private trail through the forest behind the mansion. "I don't remember much."
"Your memory will jog with the more stories I tell," Angelica said. Then she thought for a moment. "Well, I'll start with the stuff you wouldn't remember even if you tried. When you were born in the barn behind the house, you were so tiny that our father thought you were underdeveloped. He started to yell at Mother, telling her that she could give you to your step father for all he cared, in which I took you back to the house to clean you up and calm you down. I was eight, at the time. Victor was six. I cleaned you in the sink and then wrapped you in blankets. I allowed Victor to hold you, to which he flashed this big smile and called you the runt of the family."
"I'm bigger than you now," Logan interrupted. Angelica patted his arm, which was still linked with her's.
"I could still kick your ass in a fight. That brings me to another story. You were always a devil. You would jump on me and Victor from behind, laughing and trying to make us play with you. By the time you demanded such attention, I was already 11 and Victor was 9. I was doing my best to help Mother at all times, and Victor was busy with his work. We didn't have time to play with you. Most of the time, honestly, you would run to me and yank on my skirt along with get in the way of my work to get my attention. Mother and Father never gave you any, so it was my duty to do so. And there was this one spot that I could dig into, right here..." She dug her fingers into his hip, making him gasp and recoil back with a laugh. "That put a stop to your shenanigans for at least an hour."
Logan's face burned red as he rubbed his hip. "Can we forget about that?"
"Not in the slightest, runt. Come on, I want to tell you about your first crush before we return to the mansion."
