1 - Bali

I was napping slightly when I heard the pilot's voice telling us we were landing in twenty minutes, from the airplane speakers. The cracking man's voice barely audible, and the noise of everyone buckling their seatbelts right away woke me up from my dizzy state.

It took me a few seconds to realize we were nearly there. After a so long flight.

Sleeping in that plane had been a real challenge, and I can't deny I'd failed. I didn't get enough sleep at all. But no matter the lack of sleep, I felt the butterflies growing in my stomach, and the smile coming through my face.

An excited atmosphere started to fill the cabin. And I joined everyone's mood.

We were flying for eight hours now, and we were tired but so happy to finally get there like the exhaustion was put aside in a matter of second;

It would worth the trip, people told me. And I believed them.

We were there.

Bali.

Indonesia.

It was the first time in my life I'd left my hometown, and more important, my own country.

And here I was, landing in a different country, but also a different continent for almost a month.

This summer had to meant something.

As it was the first time I took a plane, and got away, it was already working.

The least I could say was that I needed this. I needed that distance. Long distance from home, to heal myself.

It was a strange feeling of freedom. And I loved it. Except the uncomfortable position, and the lack of sleep, I felt like I was breathing again. The air coming in my lungs barely hurt. It was a progress.

I was expecting some adventure. And I was hoping I would get some, here. People kept talking about Bali, it was definitely the place to be. The kind of escape I was looking for.

To accompany me during the journey, I had my best friend by my side. Kate.

We grew up together and stayed bounded even after so many years. We'd had our up and downs, but our friendship survived every troubles the life had put us through. Well, put me through...

This summer was my chance. My chance to put my shitty life behind me, and I would take that damn chance.

Anyway, so after landing, Kate and I got back our suitcases and headed outside. But before we had to go to ATM to withdraw local money.

When we got out of the airport, we were amazed by the sunny weather that welcomed us. The sunshine was blessing our faces with amazing warmth feeling. Vitamin D dose. Putting on our nose our sunglasses, we walked and assessed our surroundings.

The parking lot was insanely crowded, and everyone tried to get a cab to reach their hotels. Most of them weren't even real cab, but more local drivers, which was a bit awkward for us, western people. They all tried to take you because they needed the money.

After a short time prosing pros and cons we decided to take a local driver to get to the hotel, even if we knew how unsecure it was, the queue to get a cab was too long; driving in Bali was risky, but we made it alive. Everyone was driving Indian way and motorcycles were everywhere. It was truly impressive. This island seemed giant, and so crowded. Agitation was everywhere.

After paying our drivers, we walked in in the premises which would be our home for the next month. And the least we could say was it was way beyond what we were dreaming about.

The villa was all we were hoping for. We booked in online, but wasn't a disappointment;

"It's absolutely amazing" Kate exclaimed, with sparkling eyes, and a smile from ear to ear. Honestly I had the same expression on my face. The place was truly amazing.

Rolling our suitcases behind us, we stopped and took a look at our surroundings; staring at the amazing place.

I put my sunglasses up on my hair, and stepped ahead.

After scanning the area, we both looked at each other with friendly look and turned our gaze at the pool;

We both had a bedroom at opposite side of the villa, so we wouldn't be bothering each other. Even if we went to holidays together, we needed our own space anyway. It was better to get some intimacy. Knowing my friend, she would like to party a lot, and all.

It was so hot, and still early, so we both went to our bedrooms and unpacked. The process was pretty short because we traveled slight; we brought we us only swimsuits, dresses, hats, sunglasses and flip flops.

Being in a new place was a bit odd, but I knew I would be good here. The feeling was amazing. Strange, but good.

After emptying my suitcase and putting everything in the drawers, I headed back to the terrace, where Kate was already getting in the pool.

"Come join me!" she yelled at me when her head reached the surface of the water. Nodding, I put my pair of shorts on the tiles floor and jumped into the water to freshen me up, splashing her as much as I could.

It was amazing feeling, and both of us started to splash each other's like eight years old;

Our laughter could be heard from our neighbors for sure, but we didn't mind.

"I can't believe we're in Bali" Kate exhaled;

"Me neither"

I love that this part of the story is in Bali, it remembers one of my summer love actually
