Speaking Clearly

Kirishima POV:

"You just have to think it, and it comes out naturally. All dragons and half dragons have the same wavelength when they think aloud. So think of what you want to say and try saying it."

"No understand.."

"It's like humming, almost. Go on, try it again." Toyo ushered, sitting patiently.

"F-f-flower-" I clap a hand over my mouth. I did it..

"Keep going! I understood you that time!" He smiled.

"I did it? Oh I did it! I did it Toyo!" I squealed with excitement, jumping up and pumping my fists.

"See? It's so much easier than English, right?"

"Yes! Wait, how? It took me forever to be able to carry a small conversation in English.. And Tamaki still says it's bad!" I say, now confused on how I can go from not being able to communicate and all to speaking their tongue perfectly.

"That's because you're only sharing your thoughts. With English you have to actually move your mouth to form words, but with Doyi, it's merely sharing wavelengths." He explained, shrugging.

"Oh, I understand." I grin, happy that I can finally speak my whole mind. "Can normal humans understand us?"

"No, they can't. Something about their brain? I don't know.."

"Oh, okay."

"Ugh this is great! Now you can finally talk to us with words! I thought your head might fall off from nodding so much!"

"Yeah.."

Although I was thrilled to be able to communicate clearly with all my new friends, it was disappointed that I still wouldn't be able to speak good with my old ones. That is, if I ever saw them again. And if I did, would they even want me back?

It's been over two months and they haven't come back for me.. Which is fine.. Not like I want them back anyways..

"Hey, you good?" Toyo interrupts my thoughts.

"Hm? Oh, me? Yeah, I'm fine.." I answer, rubbing my arm.

"Okay then.. hunting is right after the sun sets if you want to join. We need to stack up on our meat pile, it's getting low." Toyo offered, standing up.

"I'll think about it.. I think Kashi wanted to take me somewhere tonight.."

"That's alright, just remember the rules. No l-"

"No loud noises, going out of the mountain range, and flying above the clouds. Got it." I finish, giving him a small smile.

"I'm so proud of you! It's so exciting that we can talk now! How long did it take for you to get that wavelength down? Two weeks?" He asked, as I was grinning happily. Toyo was proud of me..

"I think so."

"I'm so proud of you, kid." Toyo patted my back, smiling widely. "Run along now, I know Kashi gets quite impatient."

Giving a small wave, I leave Toyo's hut and run into the forest. Past the tree with the two large knots, past the small stream, and past the burnt down bushes.

Grabbing one of the bigger branches, I swing myself up, and reach out for the next branch. Then the next, and continue pulling myself upwards into the tree.

"Kashi? Are you up there? Toyo taught me to speak right!" I call, but there was no answer.

Popping my head through our platform's entrance, I peer inside. She wasn't in there..

I guess I just beat her here. Climbing up top, I sit on the very edge and dangle my legs.

Looking out, I see the real beauty of the scenery before me. The soft gusts of wind, carrying the fresh pinewood scent. And the sun just hovering above the treetops, giving them a shadowed effect. Or the mountain peaks, poking the sky with their snowy caps.

It was beautiful here, I could see why they chose these mountains to be their sanctuary. We were safe here..

"Kirishima! We're coming up!" I hear from the base of the tree. We're? Who else is coming up?

Waiting to hear the familiar creak of the platform, I stay dangling my legs.

"Kiriiii!" She yelled out, as the creak from the wood signaled she came up.

Turning around, I see that she was bent over with one of her arms in the entrance hole. Watching as she seemed to be struggling to pull something up, I scoot over to look down.

"Why did I have to come along again? I don't like you." Itazura groaned as Kashi pulled her up through the hole.

"Because you'll have fun! And I wanted to annoy you." Kashi laughed.

"I despise you."

"Oh, Kiri! I wanted to show you something!" Kashi grinned, digging into her back pocket, completely ignoring Ita's last comment.

Scooting close to Kashi, I peer into her outstretched hand. It was a white rock..

"I found a cool rock! We can add it to our collection.." She explains, standing up and going around the trunk. "We're gonna need to find a bigger hole for our rocks.. this tree is stuffed again."

I nod in agreement, I saw yesterday that it was full. It would be the forth time we had to empty it in the past three weeks.

"Hey Kashi, guess what?" I say, smirking.

"What?" She said, sitting back down in front of me. Was she dumb?

Looking at Itazura, she just shrugs, like she was used to this level of stupidity.

"Kashi. Think." I smile, tapping my forehead.

"I don't know, Kiri. Tell me!" I couldn't believe she was this oblivious.

"Kashi, what is he doing right now?" Ita asks, rolling her eyes.

"Uh.. Sitting in our tree fort, talking to us?" She answers, looking at Itazura like she was the dumb one.

"Kash, I'm talking."

"Isn't that what I just sa- Wait! Kiri! You can talk! And it's not English!" She bursts, tackling me.

"Oi! Don't knock him off!" I hear Ita yell.

Hugging Kashi back, I sit us up and she pulls away.

"Kiriii! That's so awesome!" Kashi squeals, shaking her fists.

"I know right! But I'm hug happy that this is like so much easier than English. It's just thinking!" I exclaim, matching Kashi's excitement.

"Yes!"

"Why was I brought here again when I could be at the river?" Itazura asked, crossing her arms.

"Because, your so fun to hangout with! But only after you get tired."

"What! Only when I'm tired? Seriously?!"

"No, you're also the perfect height to play hide and seek! Since you're so short, you can fit into really small spaces! I think you'd win- what are you doing?" I tried pointing out something else that she was fun at, but I was interrupted by Kashi restraining a furious Itazura.

"Run. It's for your own good. She may just kill you!" Kashi laughs, sitting on Itazura's back.

"What? Why? Was it something I said?"

"YOU DARE CALL ME SHORT YOU BUG-EYED PINECONE?" Ita screamed, thrashing around under Kashi's hold.

"Kiri, I love you. But you need to run, go to Kenta or something. Hide behind him before Ita kills you." Kashi says, struggling to keep on top of the fuming girl underneath her.

"Okay! Bye!" I yell, jumping down the platforms hole to the closest branch.

I knew Itazura had anger issues, but jeez..
