Reunion

Kirishima POV:

"Okay I'll be back soon, Grandma Chiyo. I promise!" I wave, running out of her cave.

Spreading my wings out, I pull myself up above the ground. Dodging the branches, I break through the treetops and soar above the forest.

Breathing in the fresh air, my wings graze the tips of the trees. And with my speed, I create a wind ripple behind me.

I had always found flying relaxing, it was a good nerve calming. But this particular time, I wasn't flying for a stress reliever. There was a purpose for this flight.

Going at this speed, I would arrive just before dusk. The sun had risen around an hour or two ago, so I'd be flying for a while. Not that I minded, as I said before, flying was relaxing.

Before I exited the mountain range, I abruptly turn upwards. Climbing up into the clouds, hidden from view sight.

Knowing I'd stay hidden, I allow myself to go to auto-pilot. Trusting my sub-consciousness to lead me as I close my eyes.

Luckily, my scales kept me fairly warm, with the occasional puff of heat from my nose.

Breathing deeply, I decide to take the chance to swoop down under the clouds. Only to see where I was and how long I had to go.

As the clouds faded out around me, I look downwards. I was much closer than expected, I must've gotten faster than the last time..

There was maybe an hour or so left of my flight. And I'd only been in the air for about four or five hours. I was making good time.

The last time I made this trip was several months ago. Nobody new I did it, not even Kashi or Ita. They would most likely be upset with me.

And there was no way I could ever tell Toyo, it was breaking one of his main rules. He told me never to leave the valley, but he was still with the others at a makeshift camp. I think they were still attacking, but I wasn't sure.

Toyo sent me back with Grandma Chiyo because he thought it would be best. Since I was upset from the last attack I did, he said that I would have to calm down before I destroyed anything else.

I had complied, because who was I to disrespect my elder? Respect was one of the highest priorities in our clan. No respect, no order. If someone were to disrespect another, they would see to Toyo. And that wasn't fun, at all.

Peeking below the clouds once more, I spot the destination about a mile away. Dusk wouldn't come for another couple hours. As the sun was only three quarters across the sky.

Knowing no other kingdoms would be able to spot me from here, I swoop underneath the clouds. Maintaining a steady route downwards, drifting at an incredible speed to the land.

Coming to a stop as I land, I run forwards through the forest to make it to the kingdom. But I heard nothing, no chatter, no murmur, just silence.

Sure it had been a week, but they couldn't just leave.. right?

Smoke flooded my sight as I returned to my human state. But I continued forwards, reaching through the tree-line and into the kingdom.

Looking around, I take in the true reality of the damage done. That I had let happen..

Trying not to let tears cloud my vision, I stumble over the debri flooding the streets. There were only two houses left standing, both half demolished. The castle had only two walls raised above ground, blackened with burn marks.

Not one person was left in the ruined kingdom, Bakugo's ruined kingdom. What had I done?

Walking over to the castle, I was horrified to see several large blood stains over the rocks. One was very large in particular, and I prayed it wasn't anyone's I knew.

Falling to my knees, the tears overcame me. Drenching my hands and face, my tears didn't stop.

I sat there, crying in the rubble on my knees. For a very significant amount of time, the only thing disturbing the silence were my soft sniffles. That is, until a soft meow came from behind me.

Wiping my eyes good enough to see, I turn around. And running to me from across the rubble was a small black creature.

It seemed familiar, but I couldn't help but be terrified as it jumped on me. Yelping, I scramble backwards, trying to get away from the creature as it meowed again.

Wait-

Looking down again, I recognize the creature to be a cat. But not just any cat..

"Berns!" I exclaim in glee, picking him up.

Berns chirps in response, he looked happy to see me too. Falling back onto the rocks, I hug Berns. I really missed him..

"Miss me? Pretty cat! Yes pretty cat." I coo, making sure to talk to him in English so he'd understand me.

Hearing a soft whoosh from the forest, I sit up quickly, holding Berns against my chest. Keeping my eyes on where I heard the sound, I slowly get up keeping a good hold on Berns. I would protect him..

"Kirishima!" I freeze up, recognizing the voice.

Turning around, I start sprinting in the other direction. Knowing that it I don't run fast enough that I'll get my butt handed to me.

"Kirishima you better get back here boy!" He yelled after me, I could hear him gaining on me.

Suddenly, the back of my collar was yanked backwards and I was dangling in the air. But Berns seemed fined with it.

"What are you doing out here!?" Toyo asks between his teeth.

"Nothing sir.. Just exploring?" I answer carefully, petting Bern's head.

"Don't you lie to me boy, you are in trouble now." He says, turning around.

Hearing his wings unfold, I sigh, knowing that I was going to be scolded later. Gripping Berns tight, Toyo takes off into the air. He was much faster than I was, despite his size.

"Now what were you thinking?" Toyo asked, rising above the clouds.

"I wanted to see if he was still there.."

"Who?"

"Him? You know.."

"Oh.. it's him him. Ain't it?"

"Yes sir.." I answered, slightly ashamed.

"What did I tell you about him?"

"He's worthless and not worth my time. He shouldn't be acknowledged since he left me like that."

"That's right. So why did you go back? What was back there that was so significant for you?"

"I- I don't know.." I look down, still hanging from Toyo's jaws. Berns shivered from the cold, the poor thing.

"Now what are my three rules?"

"No loud noises, no leaving the range, and no going above the clouds." I sigh, holding Berns close.

"And which ones have you broken?"

"I went above the clouds and left the range.."

"Mhm, so that means-"

"I have to be watched for two weeks and clean all the huts once.."

"You do know something!" Toyo laughed sarcastically.

"Mhm.." I roll my eyes, not looking forwards to being watched.

"Now what's that thing in your arms?"

"Berns. A cat that was gifted to me by King Aizawa.."

"What's a cat?"

"Berns is a cat."

"Well I know that, but what is he?"

"..A cat."

"Now don't you play smart with me boy!" Toyo laughs. "What is a cat!"

"Berns.."

"Boy-"
