Chapter 20

"Very good luck, Ehan. It's good that our school is hosting it this year. I may get late but don't you worry. I'll be there for sure" Ira cheerfully told Ehan, as they both stood talking about quiz competition. There were many students from other schools roaming around, who came to participate in the quiz.

He shook his head, clicking his tongue, "I know it's not possible, Ira. Still, thanks for thinking of trying. I won't be worrying. You don't worry".

"I'm gonna prove you wrong. Wait and watch" she winked at him and ran ahead, hearing the bell ring.

Ehan smiled, feeling good to know that she was trying atleast.

---

Ira rubbed her palms together in anticipation as she checked the time. It was 11.20 am already and Miss.Maslow has just arrived. She was thinking hard of a way to slip from there and reach the auditorium to cheer Ehan.

"Those who haven't completed the homework can get out of my class" Miss. Maslow said in a calm tone, flipping through the pages of their chemistry book.

Ira's eyes lit up in a moment and she stood up showing all her pearly white teeth. Miss. Maslow lifted her eyes from the book and looked at her, blankly.

"What's so funny, young lady?" She asked Ira, shutting the book close. Ira looked around and found every one sitting, staring at her like she was an alien. She looked back to Miss. Maslow and said in a small voice.

"I completed my homework but I forgot my note at home" she said, looking down to act innocent.

"Universal lie" Miss. Maslow clapped, throwing Ira an angry look.

"I'm not lying. Please trust me, Miss. Marshmallow" Ira defended herself, shaking her head in negative.

The whole class erupted in laughter as soon as Ira mispronounced miss. Maslow's name. Miss.Maslow looked at her like she was gonna eat her alive whilst Ira let out a giggle, increasing her temper.

"What did you just called me?" She questioned, nearing Ira.

"Miss. Marshmallow" Ira repeated, making her eyes go wide at her courage. The students laughed again and Ira thought it was an amazing opportunity for her. Miss.Maslow will definitely throw her out of class and she'll be able to join Ehan. But to her bad luck, Miss. Maslow said, "so much guts, huh? Come out and stand here" she pointed at the place beside board.

Ira looked at her in disappointment. How sure she that she will be thrown out.

"Miss. Marshmallow...." She whined, only to make Miss. Maslow roar.

"Come and stand here, I said" Ira made her way to the spot like a zombie and stood at the place she was asked to, pouting.

"Every one, keep your notebooks here. I'll sign it after the class" Miss. Maslow said, flipping through the pages of the book.

---

"Participants are requested to take their seats. The competition is about to begin"

Ehan looked at the door of the auditorium again, expecting Ira to appear with a wide smile. He checked the time and slowly made his way to the stage, taking his alloted seat along with 7 more students of other schools.

"Now, we would like to begin the quiz. Are the participants ready?"

Ehan checked the time again, fisting his hand into a ball. The very same feeling of disappointment was knocking his heart, which he had experienced years ago. He thought he was done being disappointed and gave up on expectations but because of Ira, his hopes built up again and he know, he was gonna get hurt like always.

"As you all know, there will be 7 rounds containing 20 questions each. Those who hits the buzzer first, will be given the opportunity to answer first. If the answer was right, you'll be given 1 point and with each wrong answer, you'll be given a minus point. With each round, the participant who scores the least will lose and couldn't carry on with the quiz. Is everything clear?" The host asked and all the participants nodded, except Ehan, who had his eyes fixed at the door.

"Now, keep your hands on the buzzer, guys. Here comes the first question. Could you list the numbers which have letter A in their spelling from 1-100?"

Ehan, whose eyes were still fixed at the door, hit the buzzer instantly. A couple of more students did hit the buzzer, but a second later.

"The Elite academy got it first and your answer is?"

"None" Ehan replied, not looking at the host.

"You got it right" he heard some people cheer while other students from other schools groan but nothing mattered to him.

"Why do people promise when they couldn't keep it?" He thought, gritting his teeth and fisting his hands, trying to calm his squeezing heart.

---

Ira made a bored face, pouting at her classmates, who were suppressing their laughter at the faces she was making.

Miss. Maslow started the class whilst Ira was getting impatient with every passing second. She promised Ehan that she'll be there and there was no way she was gonna break it.

"Miss. Marshmallow, pleeeease......" She whined, rocking back and forth, literally hitting herself on the wall. The whole class erupted into laughter again, increasing Miss. Maslow's blood pressure.

"Just shut up. Don't you dare call me that. I'll throw you out of the class" she roared, not turning to face Ira.

Ira's face lit up at her warning and she gave everyone a cheeky smile, suppressing her giggle.

"Pleasssseeee, Miss. Marshmallow" she said in an excited tone and that was it, Miss. Maslow shut the book close and turned to her, gritting her teeth.

"Get out" she pointed at the door and Ira stood straight, not even trying to hide the huge grin on her face.

"I really completed my homework...."

"Get out, I said" Miss. Maslow screamed, making Ira flinch.

"Easy, easy. I'm leaving" she said, rising her hands in surrender. She walked a few steps towards door and stopped. Everyone staring at her frowned, especially Miss. Maslow.

She turned back and asked, "just me?"

"No. Take the whole class with you" Miss. Maslow replied in sarcasm, literally boiling in anger.

Ira gave her a blank look, "No. I didn't mean that way. I was asking if I should take my ba...."

"GET LOST" one ear piercing scream and Ira ran out of there in a flash. She literally disappeared.

---

"With this, the first round gets over and H.K.L academy losses the competition at the first round itself by scoring least"

Ehan shut his eyes tight, controlling his frustration. He was really convinced that Ira would keep her promise but she turned out be the same, making empty promises. He tore his gaze from the entrance and looked at the host, paying all his attention to the quiz.

He wanted to dash out of there and go home, kick a few things to break and play some violent games to calm himself. But he know, it'll be of no use. It wasn't going affect Ira a bit.

As the second round begun, he unknowingly looked at the door again and quickly averted his gaze, only to look back with wide eyes. There Ira was, standing by the last row, waving at him with a wide smile.

Ehan froze for a moment. She probably was the first person in his life who kept her promise and he don't know how he was suppose to react.

He smiled, widely.

The frustration, anger and disappointment vanished in thin air and he felt over joyed. So so much happy, that he didn't hear the first question at all and somebody else answered. He only realised it when Ira pouted, whom he was smiling like a fool. The loud applause brought him back to reality and he sat straight, sparing Ira another glance.

She took a seat at the fifth row, showing him thumbs up and he nodded at her, too much thankful for her presence. He kept his hand at the buzzer and started hitting it almost everytime a question was asked. His eyes are wandering around Ira every moment, not wanting to miss any of the expression she was giving. Her excitement level knew no bounds, nor his, whenever she clapped for him, showed him thumbs up and cheer for him.

"Now, the final round begins. After this round, either the Elite academy or the St. Louis will win the trophy"

Ira had her hands clasped together and eyes fixed at Ehan, who was looking back at her. She smiled, making him smile back and blink at her, assuring her that he'll win it. For the first time in life, he felt nervous and happy at the same time. During his previous competitions, he had no one to make proud of but now, he has Ira who wanted him to win and he really wanted to do that for her.

He looked at his opponent, who happened to be a pretty girl, giving him a tight lipped smile. He averted his eyes from her and looked at the host. Hearing the first question, he hit the buzzer and answered the right word.

The game continued and his opponent gave him a tough competition and took advantage of every single second he spent in glancing at Ira whilst the question was asked.

"The scores are equal now. Keep it in mind that you have a last chance to win the trophy for your school. Here comes the last question, 'What is a pyrogen?'"

Ehan and the girl hit the buzzer at the same, making Ira gasp. She was looking at Ehan with wide eyes.

"Oops! Both of you hit the buzzer at the same time. Don't worry, we have a solution for our. You guys can write your answers. If both the answers turned out to be right or wrong, we'll go for another question and the winner will be decided" the host said, making Ira groan.

Ehan blinked at her in assurance and she smiled. She was sure he would give the right answer, at the same time, she know that the girl from other school was no less. She was actually a competition for Ehan.

They both wrote their answers on the notepad provided to them.

"St. Louis, you can go first" the girl confidently showed her answer and said, "Pyrogen a fever reducing substance"

The host shook her head in disappointment and looked at Ehan.

He showed his answer and read, "pyrogen is a fever inducing substance".

"Absolutely right. Elite academy won the quiz" the announcement drove Ira crazy, she couldn't stop herself from screaming. She stood up from her chair and applauded, feeling like she herself won the trophy.

Ehan's opponent cursed under her breathe but anyhow, smiled at him, who was again looking at the audience. She followed his gaze, which was fixed at Ira. Chuckling, she stepped down the stage.

Ira pulled out her mobile and captured the moment when Ehan held the trophy with deen and other staff members. For the first time, he was smiling whole heartedly after winning something. A medal and a certificate was given to the final three participants. Ira didn't miss a moment and captured everything in her mobile.

As Ehan descended the stairs after handing the trophy to deen, his legs moved on it's own towards Ira. Ira herself ran to him, "you were amazing" she squealed, her happiness and excitement dripping in her voice.

Ehan just smiled in response, removing the medal from his neck.

"I'm so happy" she giggled making him chuckle.

"I'm happy too. This is for successfully managing to bunk Miss. Maslow's class?" He said, making her wear his medal.

"Thank you" she dramatically bowed and flipped her hair from her shoulder.

"How did you do it?" He asked her, who was busy admiring the medal.

"That's exactly what I want to know" they both heard a feminine voice from behind. Turning, they found the same girl from St. Louis school standing at an arm distance from them, smiling particularly at Ehan.

Ira carefully took in her appearance. She had red hair, fairly glowing skin, pearly white teeth, green eyes and the perfect body.

"You are a genius" she said, coming forward to speak to Ehan.

"And you are beautiful" Ira blurted, admiring her.

she turned to Ira and noticed her presence. Flashing her a killer smile, she said, "Thank you so much. You are pretty as well"

"Thank you" Ira smiled back.

She turned back to Ehan, "I'm Amber. It was nice competing with you....?" She made a confused face, indirectly asking for his name.

"Ehan" Ira answered, looking up Ehan, who again smiled at her.

"Thank you again" Amber said to Ira, politely smiling at her. She frowned looking at the medal on Ira's neck. Ira looked down and gave her a sheepish smile. She was about to remove it when Ehan caught her hand, "Thank you. Please excuse us"

He looked back at Ira, "Shall we? You must be hungry" he asked her, who excitedly nodded, clutching her stomach.

He held her hand, making their way out.

"Bye Amber" Ira yelled, waving at her.

"Bye" Amber whispered, looking at Ehan's retreating back. She was too beautiful to not notice and it made her feel really odd that Ehan didn't even properly looked at her.
