Chapter 16

"Wait here for me. I'll bring you some of my old answer sheets. You can take a look to know how to present a paper" Ehan said to Ira, keeping his bag on the table and letting her sit in the study hall. Ira's way of presenting an answer sheet wasn't anything great, so Ehan decided to help her with some tips that day.

Taking stairs to the first floor of staff's block, Ehan knocked on the third door, where a name plate of "Miss.Bella" was attached.

"Come in" screamed a lady from inside.

Ehan peeked through the door to look at a busy, frustrated lady with her glasses on, working on her laptop.

"Hello, Miss. Bella" he carefully said, standing by the door and holding his hands behind himself.

She looked up from the screen, "Hey, Ehan. What brought you here, dear?" She asked in a polite tone, smiling with a tired face.

"Miss. Bella, I was wondering if you have filed my old answer sheets" he asked in a monotonous tone, his face free of any expression.

"Err..." the lady gave it a thought and answered, "Yes, I think I have. But may I know, why do you need that?" She raised her eyebrows, carefully studying Ehan's face.

"One of my juniors needs some help with it" he replied.

She sighed audibly and nodded, getting up from her chair.

"Miss. Bella, you just tell me where it is. You seem tired, I'll get it myself" Ehan offered before she could make her way to a cupboard at the corner of the cabin.

"That's very sweet of you" she smiled, sitting back. He walked to her and got the key. Opening the cupboard, he felt like it has been kept locked since months. He coughed as he inhaled the dust particles.

"Oops! Sorry, dear" he heard Miss. Bella.

Nodding at her, he started looking for his answer sheets among a pile of others. After looking for good ten to fifteen minutes, he found them in a file.

"Thank you, Miss. Bella" he returned the key and said.

"It's fine, dear. By the way, could you search me another file? I needed it since a couple of weeks but I have no time to look for it. I'm being too busy these days, you see. A few old staffs resigned" she sighed, nodding her head in negative.

Unwillingly, Ehan nodded and turned back to the same cupboard.

"Not there. Here" she pointed at a huge shelf at his right. Just by looking at the number of files and books messily placed on it, Ehan wanted to run downstairs.

"Ira must be waiting for me" he thought but nonetheless, nodded as okay. Pulling the ladder towards the shelf, he climbed on it to look for the file. Miss. Bella kept giving him instructions about how the file looks and what's written on it. He had to open every single file to know if it contains the similar details she was telling him, cause Ms.Bella wasn't sure about the file number. God knows how many minutes passed but Ehan didn't find the file.

"I think you should check another shelf" Miss. Bella said, peeking from behind the laptop screen.

Ehan mentally cried at his own idea of coming to her. He went to the other side and started looking for the file. At last, he found it in between some books. Feeling like he won a treasure hunt, he excitedly stepped down and handed the file to Miss. Bella.

"Thank you so much, dear. You are a sweetheart" she patted his back, taking the file from him.

"Thank you, Miss. Bella" he mouthed, making his way out of her cabin. He couldn't risk staying there for one more moment and her remembering that she needs some more files.

As he was walking down the stairs, an idea clicked his mind. His eyes twinkled as he thought about it. Not wasting more time, he climbed back up the stairs again and knocked on Miss. Bella's door.

"Come in" she replied in the same tone as earlier.

"Miss. Bella, I was wondering, would you mind if I suggest you something?" he asked, standing by the door.

"Not at all" she leaned on her chair, signalling him to go ahead.

"I can see, you do a lot of work. And handling everything on your own must be tiring. I think you should appoint an assistant for yourself, who would help you find your files, documents, manage your schedule, organize this cabin etc,."

She removed her glasses, thinking about Ehan's suggestion.

"You are right, actually. I seriously need an assistant" she was talking to herself more than to Ehan. He nodded seriously but inside, he was sheepishly smiling.

"Would you like to be my assistant, Ehan?" she asked, making his eyes go wide.

"No, Miss. Bella, I wasn't talking about myself" he replied almost immediately.

"Oh! Fine. I'll get a notice ready for senior classes. I'm sure someone will be interested" she smiled.

"Seniors?" Ehan shook his head.

"I have another suggestion. Would you mind if I...?"

"Not at all. Please go ahead"

"I think, it'll be better if you appoint someone from the juniors. You know how senior students behave. Someone from junior class would be an amazing fit for this job. They are probably obedient" he chose his words carefully, wanting everything to be in Ira's favour.

"That's right actually. I'll immediately post this on our website. I'll ask the juniors to apply tomorrow" she put on her glasses back and turned her focus to the laptop screen.

Ehan thanked her and made his way out. He took hasty steps towards Ira, it's been more than hour since he left.

---

"Come on, Ira. It's been long enough since Ehan went to meet someone. I guess, he's having fun. Enough of waiting. Come, let's go" Ehan could see Honey's back from where he was standing. Ira's face was screened by Honey, who was resting his hand on the table leaning to talk to her. They were sitting pretty close but Ehan could remember Ira sitting at the opposite side from where she was sitting now. His features hardened as he stood by the stairs, looking at them.

"Honey, please, Exams are near and I need to study" Ira distanced her chair from his, making her face visible to Ehan. She was having her usual potato chips, holding an open book in her left hand.

"Come on, Ira. It's just an ice cream" he brought his chair near her and said. Now Ehan could understand how her position has changed. She was trying to distance herself and he was sticking to her side.

Ehan walked to them and kept the file he was holding, on the table. His eyes daringly looking in Honey's.

"Hi, Ehan" he smirked, purposefully touching Ira's hand on the table.

"Come Ira, let's go" he ignored Honey and said to Ira, grabbing his bag from one hand and holding Ira's hand from the other. She looked at him confused. When he showed her his watch, she checked hers. It was about time for her part time job. She grabbed her things and he dragged her out. He made sure she doesn't bid bye to Honey, who was literally burning.

"My chips" she yelled realising that she left her favourite snack on the table and pulled Ehan back. He rolled his eyes, looking at her.

"I'll just go, get it" she turned but he stopped her.

"Wait here. I'll get it" he said and went back in. Honey was still sitting on the same spot, clenching his jaw.

Ehan straight away went to him and grabbed the almost empty chips packet from the table. His eyes met Honey's burning ones and he gave him the most uninterested look.

He walked back to Ira, only to find her standing with her eyes closed and a smile playing on her lips. Her hands were joined together in an anticipating way and she giggled as she opened her eyes, looking at a girl afar, who was showing off her new bag to everyone.

Ira was looking adorably cute.

"What is she doing?" He wondered.

She looked at him with a smile. He handed her the packet and she gladly accepted it, "Thank you" she smiled, shoving her hand to search for the last slice. They both begin to walk out of there.

"Quit it today" he said, making her stop performing autopsy on the poor packet and look up at him.

"I have found you a new job" he added, making her drop the packet. He was quick to hand her tissue.

"Really?" She squealed, her eyes twinkling with delight. She cleaned her hands as they made their out of the campus premises.

"Yes. Now let's go to your diner, quit the job and get your pay" he said. She excitedly rubbed her hands together, giggling just at thought of getting out of that job.

"O my God! I can't belive it" she giggled, making him press his lips together not to smile. Looking at her getting excited and hearing her giggles, his heart was beginning to race.

She started talking non stop, telling him how she wished to get out of that job and what she would like to do after joining a new one, and Ehan was silently hearing her, humming every now and then to let her know that he was listening.

"Are you coming in?" She asked standing by the door of the restuarant she works.

"Yes. Incase they try to manipulate you" he went in with her. They crossed the dining area and from behind the reception, he followed her to a medium sized cabin.

"Excuse me, Laura" Ira said, knocking on the door.

A lady who was counting on the number of newly arrived table mats turned to look at them. She checked her wrist watch, looking at Ira.

"Great! You are early. What are you waiting for? Go, change and..."

"Laura, I'm not here for that. I'm here to...." Her eyes went to Ehan and she cut Ira off by saying, "Oh! You are here to seek job for your boyfriend. No problem, we have vacancy..."

Ira and Ehan exchanged looks and Ira said, "No, Laura. I'm here to say that I'm quitting"

"Oka.... What? Come again" She raised her eyebrows at Ira.

"I want to quit" Ira repeated herself, holding on her backpack strap. Laura chuckled, looking elsewhere.

"Do you know what you are saying? How are you gonna live without a job? This job to be precise" she pointed her finger to the floor beneath her.

"And who do you think is gonna give you another job? Your are just a student, merely a 14 or 15 years old. You think you would find some other job..."

"Excuse me, Ma'am. That's none of your concern. She said she would like to quit, that's it. Rest is her issue, not yours" Ehan interrupted her, causing her to let out a sigh.

"Fine. Do whatever you wish. But mind one thing, we won't take you back if you come running after a few days to beg for a job when nobody will hire you" she spoke, taking some cash from the drawer and putting it in an envelope.

"Ok" Ira nodded, taking the envelope from her hand.

"Count it" Ehan suggested and she did as he said.

"Where's the rest?" Ira asked, gasping at the little amount of money inside.

"This month hasn't ended yet" Laura shrugged, smirking.

"Another month is just a couple days away" Ira pointed, looking at her hopefully.

"Doesnt matter. Be thankful that I have paid you atleast this much. Otherwise, people like you should be thrown out without a penny"

Ira sadly looked at Ehan, silently asking if she should take the money and leave. Ehan had his jaw and fist clenched, and eyes boring holes on Laura.

"You owe the entire amount" he said.

"She's leaving without a notice" Laura made her point.

"I asked you about it while joining and you said I can leave whenever I want, because I'm a student and you won't hold me back as it might affect my studies" Ira reminded her of her statement.

Laura rolled her eyes, "I don't remember saying anything like that".

Ira looked at Ehan, who sighed. He pulled his mobile out of his pocket and dialled a number. Ira frowned, whilst Laura looked at him with a little confusion evident in her eyes.

"Hello, Mr. Smith, Ehan this side" Ehan spoke over phone, facing the other side. Ira kept looking at him whilst Laura was looking between them.

"Yeah! I'm fine. Actually, I have a small problem. My friend works at.... What's the name of this place?" He asked the last part to Ira, distancing his mobile from his ear.

"What are you doing?" Laura rushed to Ehan and snatched his mobile. She looked at the screen which showed that he was speaking to 'Lawyer Smith'. She disconnected the call, getting restless.

"I'm talking to my lawyer. I unfortunately don't have any contacts with a cop" Ehan replied, snatching his mobile back. Ira looked at him confused, trying to understand what he meant by 'my lawyer'.

"N.. no. You can't do that. She's quitting without any notice" Laura reasoned, her tone quite different this time.

"Did you sign any agreement when you joined?" Ehan asked Ira and she shook her head in negative. He looked back at Laura, rising his eyebrows.

"But..."

"But what?"

She looked at her sides, thinking of something while Ira and Ehan stood patiently waiting to hear her response.

"Fine" she dropped her shoulders in defeat and snatched the envelope from Ira's hand. Walking back to her table, she opened the drawer and took out some cash. She was putting the cash inside when Ehan said, "You made her work for extra hours, tiring her to an extent that she fell sick"

It was to manipulate Laura but Ira seemed more shocked, "When did I fell sick?" She asked, looking up at Ehan.

He mentally palmed his face. Here he was trying to benefit her and she was ruining it all for him.

Laura glared at Ehan, pushing the drawer close.

"You didn't? No problem. But we are gonna say this to Lawyer Smith. You know who he is, right? If not, just Google him" he answered smartly, pocketing his hands.

Not believing Ehan's words, Laura Googled the name. She looked at him panicked, after scrolling through her phone. Lawyer Smith was one of the well known lawyers, who happened to be the one hired by Ehan's parents for him, incase he gets involved in any kind of trouble. Lawyer Smith was the one who usually attends Ehan's PTA meetings and signs important document as his guardian.

Opening the drawer, Laura took out some more amount and shoved it into the envelope. Ira excitedly looked at Ehan, her eyes sparkling and mouth open.

Laura roughly handed her the envelope, "Thank you, Laura" Ira squealed, taking it from her. She looked at Ehan with anger but he cared the least. It wasn't like he asked for something free. It was Ira's hardwork for which he wanted her to be paid.

"Bye" Ira waved at an angry Laura as Ehan guided her towards the exit.

---

"I just can't believe it" Ira squealed, counting the money. They were sitting on a bench in a nearby park. Ehan was sipping some water from his bottle while Ira squealing in excitement.

"How nicely you tricked her" she laughed, keeping the money safely in her bag.

"She deserved it. Anyway, you go and rest for now. Be early to school tomorrow" he said, getting up.

"You didn't say, what's the new job?" She asked, hanging her bag by her shoulder.

"You'll get it tomorrow. Be on time, okay? There'll be a tiny interview session"

"Ok" she nodded, making her way out with him.

"Ehan, what if I fail to crack the interview tomorrow?" She asked, taking slow steps beside him.

"I was thinking of asking you the same. What would you do? Would you blame me for it?" He questioned back, looking at her.

"You are not the one to be blamed. You are my hero, who helps me with everything. It would be my incapability" she said, looking back at him with a smile. He let out a low chuckle, his heart warming by her response.

"You know what? You are capable of everything. And trust me, you definitely is gonna get this job with a decent pay and much less work. Be on time tomorrow" he smiled, causing her to smile wider.

"Ok. Bye" she said, taking steps back. Her eyes glued to his face. She turned around and walked ahead, more like jumping. He stood looking at her retreating back, this time with a soft smile playing on his lips.
