Chapter 66.
Stu and I awoke early the next morning to take a shower in the cramped bathroom down the hall and get dressed for breakfast. Since I had some money to spare, we decided to buy some envelopes, stamps and write some letters to our loved ones since we had time to spare in the diner.
I was eating a bagel and writing to dad and Sarah while Stu wrote to his dad.
"This is so depressing." Stu interrupted my thoughts. I looked at him.
"I know baby. I know you still consider John your friend but, maybe right now you need to let him be. He's got a lot on his shoulders and for us to move in and try to take that away would just make him angrier. Besides, I love having you to myself." I smiled.
"C'mere." He scooted in his seat and let me sit back in his arms. "Maybe we should go home."
"It still have work Stuart. Besides we can't just run away from everyone and never speak to anyone again." I looked up at him. He sighed.
"Molly you need to understand, these people don't want us around anymore. John doesn't want me, Astrid doesn't want you, bloody hell Paul can't even stand me in the group. We don't 'ave a flat of our own anymore to go home to! Face it Molly, we're just a homeless couple who has nowhere they belong!"
I sat silently, listening to his words as he held me. He was right. This wasn't the first time John cast us out of his life and his group and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be his last. I wanted to believe we could all be those group of friends that were once close but so much has happened to change all of that.
"Stuart?"
"Hmm."
"Can we leave?"
He stroked my hair. "You want to?"
"I do." I looked out the window. "Don't tell anyone. Just start somewhere new. We can make it work. Of course well go back to Liverpool, spend some time with our family and find ourselves some way of getting around. I just..I'm tired of feeling unwanted. You're the only person I believe actually still loves me and wants me around. I want something new for us. It's not impossible." I shut my eyes. It was silent for the longest time. I knew he was thinking to himself and I knew better than to interrupt him.
My patience was running low until he finally spoke.
"When will we leave?"
I smiled and turned to him. "Whenever you'd like."
"Now?"
"Sounds like a plan." I smiled.
....
We sent our letters at the post and headed back to the club where our room was. To my luck, Richard was leaving his room and smiled when he saw us.
"Heya! You two get on alright? I was just about to head off for brekky with me mates."
"Were heading off." Stu said. "We appreciate the room and all but, there's nothin for us here. I mean, Lennon made sure we knew where we stood in his life."
"Oh I see. C'mon atleast stay another night or two! A storm is supposed to be in tonight and the show was cancelled. Maybe we can all go down to see a film or 'ave some drinks with me mates? I mean were no Beatles but we came for a good time."
I looked up at Stu who shrugged. "I suppose if we're not a burden..."
"Great! It'll be great to have two new fans! Besides, you two look like you could use some cheerin up. We'll I better get off on out. See ye later!" He waved before jogging down the hall.
"Do we look that depressed?" He laughed.
"Come on babe. Maybe we need a night out to just relax and meet some new people. Remember how much fun New York was??"
"New York. Come on." He pulled me into our room and headed to the phone. I sat on the bed as he pulled out a pamphlet and dialed. There was a knock on the door, making Stu point for me to get it as he began to speak. I walked over and opened to see Peter.
"Oh um, Peter what are you doing here??" I walked out and shut the door to leave us in the hall.
"You know who sent me. Look em, John told us he had a run in with you lot last night and.. he wanted me to tell you he didn't mean it."
"So he sent you to apologize for him?" I raised my eyebrows.
"I know Molly. It's rediculous but you know how John is."
"Yeah we do." Stuart walked out of the door and crossed his arms. "Which is why you're telling him you couldn't find us and you got word about us heading back to Liverpool."
I was about to speak until Stu looked at me.
"I don't understand." Peter asked.
"Were splittin after tonight. We can't do this anymore and Lennon's word means nothin. It's been finalized and I don't expect for him to miss me or care. I love Molly and I won't choose the band over what we have. I ask that you tell him you didn't see us. Pretend this conversation never even happened."
"You know John he'll find a way."
"Please Peter." I grabbed his arm. "Even if John finds us sooner or later, atleast we got a head start. I love Stuart so much and...If you really want to make it up to me now then...please give me a chance at a new life." I begged.
Peter looked at us both and nodded. "Fine. I'll keep this a secret."
"Thanks mate. I gotta get in I'm expecting a call. I appreciate this." Stu smiled and left back inside. I stayed out with Peter. His hands in his pockets we stood silently. I leaned in and kissed his cheek.
"Thank you so much peter. This means a lot to me...us."
"You're welcome Moll. I hope you two have a good time wherever you go and have a happy life together."
I smiled and gave him a long hug. His arms around me until he let go.
"I should head off."
"Again, thank you."
"Anything for you Molly. Bye." He waved as he headed down the hall. I watched him disappear around the corner then headed back inside where Stu waited.
....
"So how does one stay married to the same bird for this long!?" Rory asked Stu, already half drunk. Richard shook his head, looking embarrassed at his friend as Stu laughed. I blushed.
It was about nine-thirty now in the small pub across town where Rory's group usually hung out when it was a day off. Unlike the other clubs, there were no bands playing or a dancefloor. It was just a pub where people came to drink away their troubles.
"It's all about findin the right bird bird suppose." Stu took a drink of his ale.
"I wouldn't leave a bird like Molly either with a pair like that." Rory pointed to my chest. I shoved him as we all laughed.
"So you headin across seas? Livin with them yanks and rustling through their busy streets??" Richard asked.
"New York was fun when we visited a few months ago. I have to admit, it was the first time in awhile we had some peace." I smiled.
"I miss some peace." Rory sighed.
"A real bed." Richard added.
"A home meal." Stu added. All the guys agreed on that one. I rolled my eyes.
"All you men are lost without a woman to guide you."
"Aye, sex and food is all I need love." Rory smirked.
"Aye it's gettin late and we 'ave to do that fuckin recordin session early." Richard looked at his watch.
"Fine fine." Rory shook his head.
"We better shove off anyway. Early morning for us too." Stu gulped the last of his beer.
"Alright well, it was nice 'avin you mates around. Molly, remember to make us look brilliant for when we get back home." Rory winked. I smiled.
"I will don't worry." I kissed his cheek. "I'm gonna miss you two." I kissed richard's cheek next.
"Were gonna miss you too love. Sleep well yeah??"
"We will. G'night lads." Stu waved, holding my hand.
"G'night!" They all yelled.
Stu and I walked out the building hand in hand, giggling and kissing on our walk.
"I can't wait to eat you up." He wrapped an arm around me. I giggled.
"Such a romantic baby. What d'you think our new life will be like?"
"I think..." He stopped me and turned me to face him. "...well finally make it. Little by little though. I'm not a rich man."
"Rich with love" I giggled. He laughed.
"You're so cheesy." He kissed me. I smacked his arm playfully.
"Shut up."
