How Dare You [Keep It Together Part 1](22)

Just a quick an before this starts. This is a 2 (Maybe 3) parter.  I am working on the wedding it's just takin forever, sorry about that. I'm also working on a few other ones, and a few 2nd parters they're just taking a while. Also, this is a thick one. So, buckle up. We get into some... interesting things here ;)

 Ellie's P.O.V.

"Please, I need your help." The girl pleaded. She can't have been older than 6.

"Where are your parents?" Gibbs asked, not making an attempt to soften his voice.

"I-I-I don't know! They-they weren't at home. And, and they told me to come here if anything ever happened to me. They told me to find... to find-" But the girl couldn't say the name before gulping down air.

"Who was it? Who did your mom and dad tell you to find?" Tim asked, crossing his arms.

"Someone, someone named L-Leah D-DiNozzo." She replied. My eyes went wide. I didn't know this girl. How did she know me?

"Leah DiNozzo?" I asked in clarification. To which the girl nodded.

"Do you know her?" She sounded so lost and upset.

"That's my name."

-30 Minutes Earlier-

"Morning Mr Gibbs!" I greeted brightly, setting a half-eaten muffin on my desk.

"Leah, don't call me Mr Gibbs. It's... weird." He insisted.

"Oh, right, sorry." I turned on my computers, and booted up my laptop. I entered all my different passwords that was actually just the same password for all of them but I'll never tell people that. : )

And, if you're wondering about the fact that dad and I never come in together, it's because a) we're never ready at the same time. And b) you never know when you'll need 2 cars. And c) Neither of us really want to.

"Hi Leah! Gibbs," Tim greeted, coming in too, holding a cup of probably tea.

"Hiya," I said back lamely.

"I just don't see how you've gone so long without seeing it." Dad's voice said from the elevator.

"I just prefer to read books rather than watch the movies." Ziva argued back, setting her backpack down behind her chair.

"Why can't you just do both?" I asked, leaning against the cubical wall. "That's what I do a lot. Then again, the movie isn't often as good as the book. For example, the Maze Runner movie went in a completely different direction than the book on everything after Teresa came up. And I personally prefer the book way. It's just better to me. But movies like Pride and Prejudice, I prefer the movie because the dialect is hard for me to read."

Dad looked at me and raised his eyebrows chuckling. "Or you could just watch the movie."

"OR just read the book!" Ziva countered.

"What if you read the script?" Tim offered.

"OH! I love reading scripts." I agreed, to which dad and Ziva looked at us incredulously.

"You two are so just-" Dad and Ziva said together. We don't have a case today, so we were just kind of hanging out. I think Gibbs was doing paperwork, ect.

"help me!" Someone yelled down the hall a while later. I looked up, and being the closest to the mouth of the cubical at the time, moved my hand toward my knife, and walked toward the hall. Someone -probably a kid- ran past me.

"Hey, hey, hey." I said, gently grabbing the kids shoulder. The kid -who I now found was female- was in hysterics. She looked about 5 or 6. So -after double checking that there was no one following her- I lead her to our cubical.

"Please, I need your help." The girl pleaded.

"That's my name." I replied. She gasped, and looked up at me the tears spilling out of her eyes. She ran over to me, and wrapped her arms around my leg. She squeezed tight and I bent down so she could hug me properly. I still have no idea who this kid is.

"Leah, who is this girl?"
"Ellie do you know her?"
"Leah, I have never seen this child before how do you know her?"

"I don't!" I replied, kinda anxious. This kid seemed to know me as a person of safety, and comfort. But I have never heard of her, or met her, or seen her for goodness's sake. "Hey, it's okay." She was getting my shirt wet now. "Can you tell me what your name is? Or show me a picture of your parents? What else did they say?"

"They said-They said you were good friends with my brother." The girl replied, sniffing, burying her face in my turtleneck.

"Your brother? Who's your brother?"

"H-His name's Jack." I froze. I completely froze.

"What's your name?" Dad asked.

"I-I'm Laurel. Laurel Kreezy." I couldn't move an inch. I had utterly and completely frozen. I was in shock. Jack had never told me about a sister. Nor had I ever seen any evidence of her existing.

"What?"

"Uh Leah? A word?" Gibbs asked. "Tim take the kid." But Laurel grabbed onto me tighter.

"Here, come on Laurel." I stood up, and picked her up. I held her on my hip. Gibbs led Laurel and I to the end of the hallway. I set Laurel down, and let her clutch onto my leg.

"Did you know about her?" Gibbs asked me in a hissed whisper.

"No," I replied honestly, also hiss-whispering. "I've never heard of her, never seen her, or any evidence that would point to her existing."

"Hey, do you know your address?" Gibbs asked Laurel, bending down to look her in the face. She nodded. "Can you take Leah there? Do you know the way?"

"No. Just the numbers." Laurel replied, her fingers finding a home in the folds of my turtleneck.

"Alright, we're going to have someone take you there okay? You can stay there overnight, then come back here in the morning. How about that?"

"But-But-I can't go back home."

"Why not?" Gibbs asked.

"Because, because there's no house left. It got blowed up." I gripped Laurel tighter, letting her head slip back into the crook of my neck, still wetting my hair.

"Leah take her back to your and DiNozzo's place. Or, maybe better yet, Jack's. You two can... figure something out, or... something like that. But I don't want him knowing her real identity." I nodded, bouncing Laurel on my hip, and turned to leave. But Gibbs ordered me back. "Leah. Under no circumstances is something to happen to that girl. We need to figure this out -obviously- but you're on her. At all times. You're obviously the only one she's going to let... be with her."

"Yeah!" I agreed. I turned, and walked back to the cubical. I set Laurel down, letting her hands grab around my ankle boots. I got my things together, taking my gun with me. "Come on Laurel," Like I needed to say that. Laurel did however, take my hand, and walk out. I lead the little girl to my little grey car, unlocking it with a click of the remote. I helped Laurel into the back, internally kicking myself because I didn't have a car seat with me for her.

I got into the driver's seat, and started the engine. "Do you want heat, or air conditioning?" I asked, smiling at her in the rearview mirror.

"I don't really care. Anything's fine." She replied smiling back.

"Alright. I'm fine so, we'll just leave it off for now." I had left my bag in the back with Laurel, so when my phone started ringing, I asked her to pull it out for me. "Who's calling?" I already had a suspicion based on what song was playing.

"Uh... Someone named 'Little Blue Boy'. But boy is spelt weird." She replied, a bit confused.

I laughed. "That's Ethan. Pick up will you? And put it on speaker." I pulled out of the NCIS, and started down the road, the sunset behind us. It was about 1940. (7:40) She did so.

"Hey Effy, what's up?" I asked, turning left.

"Hey lass, I just wanted to ask you a favour."

"Name it!"

"I'm going out of town for about 3 days, and I was wondering if you could watch Pence?" Pence was Ethan's dog.

"YES! Oh my goodness I would love to dog sit. This couldnt've come at a better time actually."

"Perfect! Thanks a ton lass! Key's inside the blue ball in the front lawn. Thanks again!"

"Yeah, of course! Anytime Ethan!"

"Alright, bye then!"

"Bye bye!" Ethan hung up. I giggled.

"Who was that?" Laurel asked.

"My friend Ethan." I explained. "We're going to be staying at his place. But first, we're stopping by my house for some essentials."

I unlocked my front door, and stepped inside as Laurel followed me. I lead her into my bedroom after re-locking the door. I opened my closet, and pulled out the box labeled,

Ellie 6-7 and a half years

"Here you go, pick out whatever you like." I said smiling, shoving the box towards Laurel.

"Wait... really?" She asked excited.

"Yeah! They're too small for me anyways!" I agreed happily. Laurel giggled, and pulled the lid off, digging through the folded clothes. I giggled, and pulled out a duffle bag for Laurel to put the clothes and things in, then got my high school back pack for me to use. My phone started ringing as Laurel and I were getting our things together. It started plying Battle Scars by Paradice Fears. (Highly Recommend)

"Could you toss me that please?" I asked Laurel, pointing to my phone behind her. She nodded, and obliged. I picked up. "Hey Switzerland, what is it?" I asked. Back in about 4th grade or so, I nicknames Jack Switzerland because he almost never took a side in fights. Unless of course he was one of the original perpetrators.

"Hey Anna, what'cha'doing?" He asked, and I could hear a washing machine spinning in the background. He must be at the laundromat then.

"Just working. Speaking of which, I will be for this next week. It's a complicated one."

"Okay then. I just wanted to ask you something."

"Shoot."

"What are your thoughts on ant eaters?" I shook my head.

"We've had this argument already, I'm not having it again." I hit end call, but not before I heard 'No, Anna, wait!'

"Who was that?" Laurel asked curiously.

I didn't want to lie to her... But, I also didn't want to tell her the truth. "Just... just my best friend. Don't worry about it."

Laurel and I  finished getting our things, I even got a spare toothbrush for Laurel, and we headed out again.

"Oh my gosh I totally forgot! Are you okay with dogs?" I asked as she and I searched for the blue ball in Ethan's front yard.

"I love them!"

"Good! Well, There's one here so... yeah."

"OOH! What's their name?!" Laurel asked, obviously really excited.

"His name's Pence."

"Oh my gosh he sounds adorable!"

"He really is. I know he's going to love you." We found the ball, got to the key inside, and unlocked Ethan's front door. I heard the rattling of Pence's collar as I shut the door, and he came dashing around the corner.

"Hi Spence!!" I said as he jumped up on me. He switched to Laurel and she greeted him too. Pence dashed between Laurel and myself for a second before starting to play with Laurel.

This is Pence by the way:

Food was made, and eaten. Then Laurel and I got ready for bed. Ethan had 2 guest bedrooms, and a master. He normally had friends over, so he had a bunch of bedrooms. But Laurel and I were going to sleep in Ethan's master. It was a king bed so we could each have a side and it wouldn't be weird.

"Leah?"

"Sì?" (Yes in Italian)

"Do you pray before you go to bed?" It wasn't the question I was expecting obviously. I was a member of the LDS church, I learned about it through Brock and Jack. And I assumed that it was the Ravengers that were religious, but I guess it was from both the Kreezys and the Ravengers that Jack got into it.

"Yes. Do you?" Laurel nodded. "Normally with mommy and daddy."

"Do you want to pray with me?" Laurel looked up at me, wringing her hands. Then nodded. "We can pray! Do... you want me to say it?" She nodded again. "Okay.

"Dear Heavenly Father, we thank thee for this day.  We thank thee that we're here, and together. That Laurel was able to find me, and that I can protect her now." Laurel snuggled close to me, squirming onto my lap. "We're grateful for the fact that Laurel knew to come and find me. We ask thee to have compassion for us, protect us, and keep us safe. Help us to figure out what's happening with Laurel's parents..." A few seconds later, we said amen, and crawled into bed.

I could hear thunder kind of far away, and out of the window, there was a flicker of lightning. Laurel -who was on the other side of the bed- gasped. Are 7 year old's still afraid of lightning? Must be because the next time thunder shook, Laurel ducked under the blanket.

"Does the lightning scare you?" I asked, dodging under as well. She nodded, and I held my arms out to her. I quickly pulled the blanket off from on top of us because I'm extremely claustrophobic.

I held Laurel close to me that night, making sure she wasn't scared.

Hope you enjoyed! Hope you like Laurel, I love her. Part 2 coming soon! <3
