"Isn't it awful that Paige and Tony got divorced?" Harry says when you are in bed that night.
"Yeah. I would have thought that they were the most likely to stay together."
"I wonder who will get the house."
"I wonder who will get the kid."
"Why are they divorcing anyway? They seem to get along pretty well."
"Not the way they were screaming at each other."
"All couples have arguments."
"Yeah."
"I can't think of one good reason for them to divorce."
"What if one of them cheated on the other?"
"Can you see either of them doing that?"
"Good point. What about financial issues?"
"I don't know. Paige is a teacher and Tony is a lawyer. Money probably isn't too much of an issue for them."
You think about it for a few minutes.
"Then- then what if one of them was ill?" Harry thinks about it.
"That's... plausible. There's a possibility that could be it."
Somebody knocks at the door.
"I'll get it." Harry yells to nobody. You both go downstairs. Paige is at the door.
"C-can I move back here for a bit?"
"Of course. Come in."
She walks in with her suitcase.
"Thank you."
"Didn't get the house, I see." Harry says. You slap his arm.
"No."
"Or the kid?"
"I'm not fit, apparently. To be a mum, I mean." You take her into the kitchen.
"Want a cup of tea?"
"Yeah, please." You make her some tea and pass it to her.
"Thank you."
"Paige, can I ask you a question?"
"I think you're going to anyway."
"Why did you and Tony get divorced? Were you having issues?"
"Well, yes I suppose."
"What was going on, if you don't mind me asking."
"I don't wanna talk about it. I'll tell you another day, don't worry. I just don't really want to..." her voice trails off.
"That's okay."
"It's just, some stuff happened and-
"It's okay, Paige."
"Thanks." She finishes her tea, stands up and leaves.
