Chapter 4
We walk into the kitchen and I sit down in a chair at the wooden kitchen table. Erik grabs a pan, then turns to me and asks,"What would you like, Christine? I can make you anything."
I ponder for a moment, then say,"Crepes would be amazing." He smiles and then begins to make the crepes. While he is whisking the crepe batter, he turns around and says,"Christine, I know you just got here, but we need to leave Paris."
I freeze. Leave Paris? Where would we go? Why would Erik want to leave Paris? That means we woild leave the Opera House. I couldn't go to my father's grave anymore. But that means Raoul would be out of my life for good. I have to find out why we need to leave. So I ask Erik,"Why do we need to leave?"
Erik scoops some batter out and puts in the hot pan before turning to me saying,"I'm a wanted man in Paris and they will continue to look for me until I'm dead. I was actually planning on leaving today," he pauses before saying shyly,"until you came last night."
I feel myself blushing furiously, then ask,"Where did you plan to go?"
He flips the crepes before saying,"Coney Island, New york."
He must see my confused expression because he smiles and says,"I decided to head to New York because it can be the new start I need and probably all of Europe is hunting me. I figured going to America would be far enough away from Europe, so no one would recognize me."
Erik then scoops the crepes up, puts them on a plate, adds strawberries, and brings the plate to table. He sits in the chair across from me. I take a bite of the crepes and it tastes amazing. "These crepes are amazing, angel. I didn't know you can cook."
Erik smiles and says proudly,"I can do more than write music, Christine."
I smile and ask curiously,"What else can you do that will surprise me?"
He smirks, stands, and says,"I'll be right back. I need to go grab something." Then Erik walks back to his room. I sit there and continue to eat my crepes before Erik comes back holding a thick leather book tied together with a thick black ribbon. He sits back down in the chair before untying the ribbon and opening the book.
I gasp and put my hand over mouth as I look the beautiful pictures that Erik drew. Flipping through the pages, I see black and white or colored pictures of the ballet dancers, the Opera House, and roses. I flip to the last page and my eyes begin to water. It's a picture of me on stage during my first performance. I see myself drawn in the red, green, and yellow dress, holding the scarf in front of me. My face is drawn with a bright smile. At the bottom of the page, "Think of Me" is written in red, green, and yellow.
I look back up at Erik, with a single happy tear falling down my down my cheeck. "Erik, these are beautiful." He smiles brightly and wipes my tear away before saying,"Thank you. I told you I can do more than just write music."
I giggle and then remember we talking about going to America. Looking straight into Erik's eyes, I say,"Erik, I want to go to America."
