Chapter Two: Morning kisses

"Well sweetie, all you need to know for now is that they'll all be arriving later this evening." Momma called as she began picking up our dishes and carrying them to the sink.

They? Wait so there's not just gonna be the couple.

"Abbey, isn't it time you head to school?" Papa questioned amused. I glanced at the clock on the stove, my eyes widening as I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw what time it was.

I jumped up and ran upstairs taking two steps at a time to get my phone and backpack. I have my book bag all packed and ready to go beside my bedroom door but I have no clue where my phone is.

I raced back downstairs into the kitchen retracing my step from yesterday.

"Baby you have twenty minutes before school starts, why are you still here!" Momma exclaimed confused, yet a smile still graced her face.

"Because I can't find my phone" I grumbled as I once again hiked myself up the stairs to grab my backpack and to make my bed.

I seriously should be in the Olympics with all this running I'm doing.

I drag my body down the stairs and head to front door to retrieve my keys. As I unlock the door and begin to step out, momma and papa's voices stop me.

"Wait!" They shout in unison.
I whine under my breath as they approach me.

"Bye baby we love you so much don't forget that," momma tells me softly as she kisses my temple— A stray tear rolling down her left cheek. I returned the smile and kissed her tear away.

"I love you both too Momma don't forget that!" I mimicked with a dopey grin.

She giggled and begin walking away "Go learn something" she sniffles.

I bring my gaze to my dad seeing him staring at momma's retreating form with a goofy smile on his face.

Sometimes I wish to be as happy as momma and papa are right now when I'm their age.

Papa turns back to me and his serious tone catches my attention, "Drive safely angel. And as you mother said, we do love you. A lot. No matter what you do that will never change" papa begins as his eyes start to glaze over.

I nod confused and he continues, "We might not be home often Abbey but you're the best son any parent could ask for j-just don't ever forget that. And we accept you for who you are! So don't ever change for anyone no matter who they are because there's no better you then you. Okay?" Papa stresses while holding my shoulders firmly, but his soft expression warms my little heart.

"Yes papa," I whisper and give him one final embrace before I go. I literally have no idea how I got so lucky to have parents like these.

Papa kisses my head before letting go and stepping back. "Have a good day baby boy, "he grins. I smile sadly and wave goodbye then I was off to the garage.

It's been an hour since I've arrived here at school and I'm already past exhausted. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that all I've been thinking about all morning is my parents. Or maybe it's the fact that I haven't seen Ryder all morning and I feel anxious that something might happen if I'm not alert. Either way, I'm tired and annoyed. Just then the door to the classroom opened and in entered none-other than the devil himself.

All eyes turned to him and I swallowed the lump in my throat when our eyes locked. His face was blank but his eyes held anger as he stared deep into my soul. I broke eye contact and looked down at my lap.

"Mr.Willoth is there a reason you're an hour late to my class?" My science teacher nagged. I glanced back up to see Ryder roll his eyes but answer nonetheless.

"Because I had to talk to the coach" he grunted.

"The next time you're even a millisecond late to my class again you have detention for a week. Do I make myself clear?" She fumed.

Ryder sent me a nasty glare before replying 'yes ma'am' and heading to his seat– thankfully on the other side of the classroom. I have no clue as to why he hates me so much but for some reason I don't hate him like I should. I think that somewhere deep down there's a reason as to why he's so mean to me.

Anyway, on unrelated awesome news I found my phone and you'd never guess where. It was in my car.

Yeah maybe I should've checked there first since I never really use it when I'm at home. Eh it's not like this was this the first time anyway.

The rest of the day was pretty great since I didn't have Ryder to deal with other than what happened today in science. I began walking to my car like nobody's business when I remembered had to go to pick up a book from the library.

I abruptly stopped mid-step though as I suddenly spotted a annoyed-looking Ryder leaning against my hood.

I took cautious steps towards him. It wasn't until I stood directly in front of him that he noticed me. "Finally," he huffed.

Although terrified I brought my eyes up to his, "w-why are you here, are you planning on smashing my face against the pavement again?"

He frowned and continued to stare at me. Well, more like bore his eyes into mine as if trying to figure me out.

I shifted between each foot nervously under his intense gaze. And I guess that's all he needed from me, because he gave me one last glance before mumbling something inaudible and leaving as fast as he came.

You know what I think I'll skip on the library today and come back tomorrow. With that thought in mind, I quickly unlock my door and get in the driver's side and start my car.

I don't think I've ever seen my mother this stressed before.

"Baby they're gonna be here in fifteen minutes!–go shower and put something nice on. Oh and clean your room!" Momma demanded as she took the white garlic lasagna out the stove.

She turned back around when she saw I was in the same spot and I swear I saw her left eye twitch.

I took it as my cue to leave when she had that:  You-have-five-seconds-to-leave-before-I-hit-you-with-this-spoon' look.

I ran upstairs and quickly made my bed like it's supposed to be and picked up all the left-over water bottles from under my bed.

Don't you dare judge me–it's not my fault I'm thirsty at night then suddenly not the next minute.

As soon as my room was all tidy up, I took a quick shower and got out when I heard pounding on my bedroom door.

"Abbey they're pulling into the driveway now," Papa shouted as I heard Momma squeal in delight.

Oh crap.

I went to my closet once again today and found a pair of baby blue jeans and a patterned black and light tan oversized sweater to match. A beanie also covered my mop of messy hair too.

I rambled down the stairs, but immediately pause on the second from last step—my breath hitching when I caught sight of the people in front of me.
