Chapter 1
The chapters will be various lengths, but none less that 500 words, and none more than 1500 (hopefully). I hope you enjoy, and I should have a semi-regular uploading schedule with this, so... Let's see.
Enjoy!
Roman smiled as he walked across the courtyard to his friends. He knew a lot of the students at their school, but he wasn't friends with them in the same way he was with Logan and Virgil. The three of them had been friends since they could remember. Logan and Roman had been in school together since the beginning, and then a few years later, Virgil came along.
Roman loved them both, for different reasons, and the love he felt towards them was rather different. He loved Virgil like a brother, but Logan? He loved Logan like a lover, he had been crushing on him for years now, and he didn't know how to talk to him about it. He didn't know how to tell his stoic, seemingly emotionless friend that he held romantic feelings for him. Not that he really wanted to, he was terrified of the outcome. He didn't want to lose either of them.
His smile widened as he saw Virgil and Logan talking by their lockers. Virgil was listening more than talking, but it was to be expected at seven in the morning. Neither Roman nor Virgil were 'morning' people, yet Logan was, and he somehow had more energy in the morning than the end of the day. Roman never understood it. He wanted to feel the same, but he had less energy in the morning, and more in an evening, not counting the fact that he couldn't stomach eating in the morning.
He stayed a few feet away, trying to stay out of sight as he watched his friends interact. He wasn't sure what they were talking about, but since Virgil seemed to be talking more, he guessed they were talking about Patton, Virgil's 'crush that wasn't a crush'.
"I just don't understand it. I want to tell him, and I want to put myself out there, but I don't know how, or if I can. It's hard... I like him a lot, but I don't think he would even consider dating me, like, seriously, who would?"
"You underestimate yourself," Logan spoke, and Roman noticed he looked around. Was he looking for someone? "Patton would be lucky to have you, and if he had two brain cells in that head of his, he would see how great you are..." Logan trailed off and glanced behind him. "I have to go." He muttered, and Roman watched as he turned and walked away, leaving a confused Virgil.
"Hey, Virge!" Roman walked up to him, and smiled, pulling him into a brief hug, knowing he didn't like affection in the morning. "Where is our Nerd?" If it was up to Roman, Logan would be 'his' Nerd, but it wasn't up to him, not when Logan had a huge say in it too.
"He looked behind him, and then just walked off... I don't know, he seemed a little freaked." Virgil glanced at Roman, and Roman smiled weakly. He was worried about his friend, they both were, but Roman felt bad that he didn't just walk up to them when he planned on it, maybe Logan would have felt safer.
"When did you show up? Logan just looked that way, and he never said anything about seeing you?"
"Sorry, I went to a teacher... Late assignment."
"Liar... You were spying on him again, weren't you?"
"I... Yes."
"Dude, you have to tell him how you feel! He can't read your mind, and he's going crazy trying to read it. He needs the reassurance that you're there, and he likes knowing you are. Not to mention he's utterly smitten about you."
"Don't be ridiculous, he doesn't like me in that sense. I'm uselessly pining, and he will never love me back."
"Roman, you're the most romantic male in the school, you can't keep saying that he doesn't like you, everyone can see it!"
"Virgil, let it go, please."
"Fine. For now."
Roman sighed, and turned to his locker, grabbing his books for his first and second period, silently hoping Logan was okay.
He turned to Virgil and nodded, showing he was ready to get to class.
They walked into their first and saw Logan sat at his desk, his head in his hands, and Roman was almost convinced he was crying. They walked over to their shared table and sat in their respective seats.
Roman rest a hand on Logan's shoulder, making him look up, and meet his gaze. Logan's eyes were bloodshot, and he was crying.
"Logan?" Roman tried, knowing it was pointless, Logan never spoke about how he felt, even if he was crying. He hated talking about anything that made him seem weak, or human.
"Shut up." Logan turned away from him, and Roman sent a concerned glance to Virgil, trying to make sure he was reading this right.
"What happened?" Virgil spoke up, ignoring the way Roman looked at him. Roman sighed and looked at Logan, whose eyes were filling with tears, and he looked ready to break down again. Roman was rather worried, and he didn't know what to do for his friend.
"I can't..." Logan managed out, and went to stand up, and walk out, only for his gaze to land on the doorway, and he sat back down, lowering his gaze back to the table.
Roman frowned, and glanced at the doorway, seeing Logan's older sister stood there, a stern look on her face, and he looked to Virgil.
He saw Virgil shrug slightly, and they turned back to Logan, who hadn't lifted his head.
"Logan, what is going on?" Roman spoke, a sudden sternness to his voice, and Logan's eyes widened as he looked at his best friend.
"She found out..."
"About?" Roman's voice softened at how clearly broken he sounded.
"Him." Logan shuddered, and Roman's eyes widened.
"Is he back?"
"Yes."
