Fourteen Seconds

Back to Audrey's POV

William wasn't at school the next day, the fucker. I couldn't believe he was ditching on me. I sighed, deciding to just approach Caspian and Paris to join their project for the day.

"Hi," I said, plopping down across from Caspian and beside Paris. Both of them brightened and looked to me, Caspian with his usual muted expression but Paris with all the glory of the sun in his grin.

"Odj!" he said excitedly, grabbing my hand and lacing our fingers together. "I missed you! I feel like we haven't gotten to talk in ages." His French accent made his words sound even sweeter. "I already have my ladybug costume ready, I'm really excited--"

Caspian reached across, grabbed Paris's wrist, and wrenched his hand away from mine exactly fourteen seconds after Paris had taken it, taking it himself. "I missed you, Audrey. You should hang out with me more."

Paris scoffed. "What, you and your brooding face? The only person who would want to hang out with you is maybe someone who didn't mind being glared at all the time."

"I glare at people all the time," I offered, and Caspian looked to me, his dark expression softening noticeably. "Not the people I like, though. I have a huge rbf."

"I don't think so," Caspian said softly. "I think you're beautiful."

I blinked. "I didn't say I was ugly, I just said I glare at people. Especially blue eyed people."

Paris laughed, and I smiled, happy to have made him do so.

Caspian hesitated. "Well, yeah, I just meant--"

"Black! France! Are you working??"

They both looked up with guilty expressions and nodded, ducking their heads and quickly getting back to work. Caspian glanced to me after a second. "...If you want to ask if you can join our group, you could be the focus of the photoshoot," he offered, and Paris nodded.

"Yeah. I already focus on you all the time anyway, so it would be great."

Caspian paused, then smiled sweetly at me, brushing his split-dyed hair away from his face. "...but since you aren't officially part of our group, I guess I'd just have to take the pictures--if that's alright with you?"

I was about to nod, grinning at the thought of Caspian having pictures where I was the centerpiece, but Paris made a indignant noise. "No, I want them!!"

Caspian glared at Paris, eyes flashing red. "I asked first."

"That doesn't mean shit. She likes me more."

"Says who? That inflated ego of yours?"

"You're just jealous because we--"

"Why don't you just split them in half?" I interrupted, happy they were fighting over me, but they were drawing attention over and I didn't like how people were all looking at us. "Take an even amount of pictures, maybe two of each shot, and split them between you guys."

They were still glaring at each other. Paris's nose always wrinkled when he was pissed, and Caspian's lip curled.

"Fine," they both finally growled. I smiled.

"Perfect." Standing, I gathered my stuff. "I'm going to go try to call William again, that bitch. He didn't even show up."

The boys glanced to each other, and for once, it looked like they weren't glaring.

I wonder what that's about.
