Chapter 13: Soju

"Ji! Wait up," Woojin called, swinging his arm around Hannie's shoulders.

School was finished for the day and Hannie, for once, wasn't staying later for extra hours. His parents once again believed that he was going to hang out with Minnie, which wasn't a complete lie. Minnie would be there but so would half of the school, it was a party after all.

By the time the boys reached the school entrance, Woojin was already waving at the girl waiting across the road with her motorbike. She smiled and waved back at the boys, cigarette in hand.

"How was school?" She teased as soon as they were within earshot, to which the boys groaned and shook their heads in disapproval.

By the time they had crossed the road, Minnie was running over followed by a few of the other boys in their group.

"You're going with Minnie right?" Woojin asked, taking a cigarette offered to him by Haeun.

Han nodded, "Yeah, my stuff is at his. We'll meet you there in a couple of hours?"

"Sounds good," the elder agreed, and the boys parted ways.

Haeun flashed Hannie a smile and put her helmet on, passing the other to Woojin who climbed on the back of her motorbike.

As soon as the two boys were far enough away from the rest, Minnie began asking his questions and teasing again, "So? How'd it go? Are you and Taebin, you know?"

Hannie felt a blush threatening to crawl up his cheeks and nudged Minnie's shoulder. "Not out here. Wait until we get to yours."

Minnie sighed with a smirk, "But are you?"

"Yes. Now can you shut up about it for two seconds?" Hannie snapped, though he was just as excited to tell Minnie all about it as he was to hear about it.

By the time they reached Minnie's room and closed the door behind them, Minnie was bouncing up and down once again as he teased his friend.

"Did you kiss? Did your heart flutter? Oh, look at you, your cheeks are heating up just thinking about it."

Hannie covered his flaming cheeks with his hands and rolled his eyes only to start playfully hitting the younger. "It's not that big of a deal, will you cut it out."

Minnie continued to poke fun at and tease Hannie until they were back outside and on their way to the party, even then he was teasing him but slightly more lowkey than before so not to attract any attention that Hannie certainly didn't want from anyone else.

"Does he know you're going to this party tonight?"

Hannie shook his head as they approached the door. "No, he has a project to finish."

Just like that, their conversation was over, and their senses flooded with pulsating music and dark lights. It didn't take long to find the rest of their friends as they pushed through the crowd. Just follow the sound of whatever stupid thing Woojin was currently doing, and you'd never get lost.

In seconds they were in the crowd, watching Woojin performing his latest stunt at the beer keg. Haeun was pushing drinks into their hands before they had even seen that she was there and both of the boys downed them effective immediately, aiming to catch up with everyone else who was clearly already shitfaced.

A couple of hours in and Hannie was, like the others, hammered. Despite this, he still managed to avoid Haeun's not so subtle advances on him. It seemed so normal to him, to not want to make out with the girl despite doing so many times before. To everyone else, however, it was growing clear that Hannie was obviously avoiding the girl. Though she just played it off with a laugh and downed another shot instead.

"Come on Hannie, let's dance," Haeun slurred slightly, dragging the boy over to the other dancers who were doing nothing of the sort, all just grinding up against each other.

Han enjoyed it at first, while it was still innocent, but the closer Haeun got, the more uncomfortable he grew. It wasn't that he didn't like the girl, in fact, she was one of his closest friends and he really did value his time spent with her, but this was too much.

Every time she tried anything, it made him think of Taebin. He felt guilty. Guilty for not being able to tell her, guilty for not telling Taebin about the party, guilty for liking Taebin in the first place. He still wasn't quite used to it, the feeling that he wasn't doing anything wrong. In fact, although everything about liking Taebin felt right, he couldn't stop thinking that if he could have just liked Haeun instead everything could have been different.

If he liked Haeun the only issue would have been her rebellious nature. His parents wouldn't like that, but it would be better than them finding out that he was dating another boy. If only he could have liked Haeun, but he didn't. He liked Taebin.

"Noona... Noona, stop." He pushed her away only to be met with a pout.

She stepped forwards again, this time wrapping her arms around his neck as she swayed to the beat. "Why? Why don't you want me?"

As drunk as the pair of them were, they were still sober enough to have this conversation. Well, they thought they were.

"Because... because I'm not normal."

Haeun tilted her head to the side, unsure if she had heard him right over the music, and pouted again.

Now, Hannie knew it was a bad idea and in all honesty, he didn't mean to let it slip, but the guilt was devouring him whole. Or maybe that was just the burn of the alcohol in his belly, bubbling up with the uncomfortable heat that had overtaken him. Whatever it was, he soon found himself leaning forward until his lips were just hovering over her ear.

"I like boys."

His heart stopped in his chest once he realised what he said, but in the pass of the moment, he forgot the significance of his words and simply giggled to himself. Haeun, however, was utterly shocked by this revelation and almost instantly jumped back from the boy. Hannie continued to dance by himself after that, too out of it to notice the look on his friends face before she ran off.

Hannie was known to party hard but he had an issue when it came to drowning his worries in a party. His drunken self may not have been entirely aware of why he was so desperate to stay drunk, to keep having fun. There was no harm in having a little fun, after all. But there was, especially when he already knew he was going to regret certain things once he sobered up.

It was the soju that got him, it was always the soju. He was only one and a half bottles in, and his head was already down the toilet. Minnie was the one who came running in, rubbing his back until he stopped spewing for a moment.

"He can stay at yours, right? He can't go home like this with that family of his," Woojin sighed, burping as he took another swig from the bottle in his hand.

The younger was about to say yes, yes Hannie could stay at his, but then he had an idea.

"Um, no. Not today, my parents will kill me if I bring him home in this state, but I know who to call."

Woojin nodded and was soon dragged off back into the party, leaving Minnie to scheme alone. And so, he continued to rub Hannie's back as he searched for his phone. Upon, finding it, he smirked to himself and found the contact he was looking for.

"You'll thank me for this later."

A car Hannie knew all too well pulled up in front of the house and a tired boy climbed out, running over to the entrance to catch the younger as he stumbled through the door.

"What did he take?" Taebin asked, tilting Hannie's face to get a better look at him.

"Nothing, just soju and beer this time around, but he can't go home like this. Sorry for calling you but I didn't know who else could take him and, well..."

Taebin cut him off and began to start walking him over to the car, "Yeah, I know. Thanks for looking after him until now, I'll get him to bed."

"I- Okay, bye." Minnie waved and headed back into the party after watching Taebin help Hannie into the car.

When the door banged shut, Hannie furrowed his brows and reached an arm up towards the elder's face. "Taebin?"

Taebin was trying not to be angry and surprisingly it wasn't so hard for his expression to soften the moment he locked eyes with Hannie. The younger looked confused, his bottom lip protruding out further than the top one as he frowned slightly. Taebin sighed and rested one hand on the wheel while the other reached up to grab Hannie's.

"Why are we out here? The party is in there," Hannie asked, pointing back towards the house he had come from.

The elder reached over and pulled the seatbelt over the younger, fastening it for him before turning on the engine. "We are going home."

Hannie pouted again. "I don't want to go home. I want to stay with you."

"You're coming home with me. Like hell would I let your parents and Jun see you in this state."

Hannie grinned and cheered, "Yay, sleepover with Taetae."

The elder shook his head, baffled by the younger's newfound childlike cuteness and finally began to drive away.

Taebin was no stranger to having a sleepless night but even as he drove, he found himself yawning. He had been busy with his project all day, paint still stained his fingertips, and here he was, in the early hours of the morning, picking his boyfriend up from a party.

Hannie, thankfully, managed not to throw up in the car. It seemed as though he managed to get most of it up before he left the party. All he needed now was sleep and a lot of it. His hangover in the morning was going to hurt, even he knew that. At the moment, however, he just didn't care.

"Careful. Yep, up the step. One at a time," Taebin instructed, slowly aiding the younger up the stairs to his apartment.

It didn't help that Hannie was struggling not to trip over his own feet, let alone the many stairs he had to climb. Taebin was already mentally cursing at himself for living a few floors up, in the rooftop apartment, nonetheless. At least it meant he didn't have to go through the front entrance. He could just quietly sneak Hannie up the back stairs to his front door.

Upon finally making it up the stairs unharmed, Taebin helped Hannie lean up against the wall while he pushed his key into the door, unlocking it with a soft click.

Hannie was already walking inside before Taebin had the chance to help him. He stumbled through the doorway and attempted to remove his shoes by wiggling his feet in the air. When they failed to fall off, he pouted and ran a hand through his hair as he thought of another way to get them off.

With a sigh and a slight chuckle, Taebin crouched down and began to untie the laces before slipping the shoe off his foot. He looked up and instructed the younger to lift his other foot so that he could do the same, then he neatly tucked the shoes alongside his own.

"Let's get you some water." Taebin smiled, taking the younger's hand to lead him towards the kitchen.

Hannie jumped up onto the counter, sitting himself down as he swung his legs. He watched as Taebin reached into the cupboard, taking out a plastic cup over a glass one, and filled it with water from the tap. The elder then turned back around and passed him the water.

"Drink it all, okay?"

Hannie nodded and did as he was told, drinking the contents a little too quickly. He wiped away the drops that had spilt onto his chin and hiccupped with a grin, "T- Thank you."

Again, Taebin chuckled and took the cup to refill it. When he turned back around this time, Hannie was reaching out to him and grabbing at the air like a baby.

"Carry me." Another hiccup followed his words, and the elder shook his head but put the cup down, nonetheless.

When he bent down in front of the younger, a wide smile grew on Hannie's face and he quickly hopped onto his back, wrapping both his arms and legs around him so that he wouldn't fall off.

"You're like a little Koala," Taebin commented as he began to walk towards his bedroom.

In the time since leaving the party, Hannie felt as though he was beginning to sober up a little bit. Obviously, he was still far from sober, miles from it actually, but he was somewhat more to his senses than before. Somewhat.

Taebin put Hannie down when he finally reached his bed, pressing a kiss to his forehead before going back for the water that he left in the kitchen. Hannie needed to stay hydrated, that was important.

It didn't take long for him to return but by then, Hannie was midway through removing his jeans.

The younger pouted and continued to pull at them. "Stupid jeans. Stop holding onto my legs, let them go."

"Give me strength," Taebin muttered under his breath before placing the cup on the nightstand beside the bed.

He then turned back to Hannie and helped him get out of his jeans. Hannie sighed in relief once his legs were free and went to take his shirt off too but he was stopped when Taebin's hands grabbed his own.

Hannie tilted his head to the side, wondering why the elder had stopped him.

"Let's get you something to wear to bed first," Taebin spoke softly and waited for the younger to nod in agreement before diving into his draws to find him something to wear.

Taebin knew that all of his clothes would be much too big for the other boy but something about that had him getting excited. He was doing everything in his power to restrain himself because he was not the type to take advantage of a drunk person, especially someone he cared about so much. However, it seemed innocent enough to look forward to seeing the other in his clothes.

"Will this be okay?" Taebin asked, holding up an oversized hoodie.

With a smile, Hannie nodded and reached out for the soft fabric.

Taebin chucked it over, turning around to allow the other to change in privacy only to find himself turning around again once hearing the state of panic Hannie was in. It took everything in him not to burst out laughing there and then as the boy had one arm through the head hole and was trying to push his head through where his arm was supposed to go.

"Unbelievable," Taebin chuckled and began to help direct Hannie's limbs into the right places.

When his head finally popped out again, he took in a deep breath as if he had been suffocating seconds before and looked at the elder with a smile.

"Sorry, it's a bit big," Taebin noted, looking at how the sleeves hung longer over Hannie's hands.

The whole hoodie was scrunched up in places here and there and it hadn't been allowed to cover him completely as he was still sitting on the bed. His legs were still exposed but that was all as the large hoodie pooled around his waist.

"It's perfect." Hannie grinned, raising an arm only for the fabric of the sleeve to wave about as nothing occupied it.

"Let's go to bed then, I think you've had enough partying for one night."

Hannie nodded and let out a noise of approval before climbing into the bed all by himself.

Taebin smiled and got up to turn the light off, peeling his shirt off before climbing in beside the smaller boy.

Hannie was lying on his side, facing away from the elder but soon flipped over to face him. They could just about make out each other's faces through the darkness and that was only because of their close proximity.

"Goodnight, Hannie," Taebin mumbled, wrapping an arm around the boy.

The voice that replied was quiet but content, "Goodnight, Taetae."
