Chapter Eighteen
Summer's POV
"We made it! Good job guys!" I said as my teammates clapped and cheered around. I said out loud in encouragement, "Keep it up for our upcoming sales! Let's hit the higher target for next month!"
Everyone hi-five with each other as I rested my hands on the table and beamed, "So, Domino Pizza for lunch, guys?"
"Of course!" all of them said excitedly.
I said with a chuckle, "Alright, make sure get back to work after the pizza party!" I handed 200 bucks to Jason, one of my teammates.
His eyes widened who looks like win a lottery, waved the cash over his head announced delightedly, "We're not only enjoying our pizza parties, also can enjoy dinner parties! Wooo!"
Everyone cheered again as Jason's smile disappeared and sighed dramatically, "Well, guys get the hint. That's means we have to overtime today."
I shrugged lightly to see my long face teammates and said, "It's okay. Everyone can go home on time if you can make any sales today." I stared at Jason and smirked, "Except Jason. He promised that he will overtime today."
Jason gasped in disbelief as I patted his shoulder, "Your hard work will be much appreciated, Jason."
I walked away and leaving the meeting room as I heard him said dejectedly, "No way." With that, the room filled with waves of laughter by knowing I was making fun of him.
Nicholas was a sales agency manager since the day I started to work with him. He had taught a lot and was generous to share his experience with me.
As an insurance agent ain't easy during the starting point. Besides, I was in another town, and everything seems started from zero. I had a good mouth, but I also had to learn to be patient and shameless for this job.
Back in the first year of this job, I had to go door to door to sell the product. Somehow, I had been chased out by the people, thankfully I was still alive after chasing by dogs, or threw the brooms, disgusting water, and anything.
I always bear in mind that I had made a good connection with every single of my potential clients. Sales were like a chain. If they were happy with my attitude and service, they would recommend me to their friends or relatives.
I worked my ass off to gain clients, studied in the nighttime for learning new policies of the insurance, and there would have numerous tests for me to take.
I had spent close to five years get promoted to be a sales agency manager, and finally, I could open my branch. Part of my little dream came true, I could back to my hometown and started a branch to settle down with Lotte.
It's been a month since we shifted back to here. Once I came back here, the memories of Charli and I were coming back. Speaking of her, that's was painfully torturing me.
I had no contact with her for close to 6 years. I was being forced to change my mobile number since the first day I left Charli for that bastard's sake.
I didn't get back to Charli the soonest since I started my job because I didn't want to be her hopeless burden.
Also, I wanted to get success and made decent paid for my job before getting back to her since I met a great opportunity to get back my life.
Everything might change after 6 years between us. To be honest, I might be a little too late for that if I see her again.
I was wondering did she already moved on? Was she dating a girl or a boy? Was she married?
We were already 25 years old and Lotte was already 5. Maybe Charli already gets married to someone and had a kid like me? I hoped no.
I would never hope that we would end up like this. I had been through hell, worked my ass off to get my goal. I was ready to get her back to my life. Please be good for me.
"Summer, I need your help," my train of thought was cut off by Jason.
He looks worried and a little stressed out. I arched one of my eyebrows and joked, "Are you telling me that you're going to bail the pizza party?"
He scratched the back of his neck and sighed, "I have no choice, this lady insists I explain the package to her again. But, I already explained everything to her clear and in detail."
He groaned, "I don't know what the hell she wants to know more."
I laughed as I stood up from my working desk and said, "Go get ready, I'll go with you,"
He grinned, "Thank you!" he quickly left my office room and yelled, "Hey! Left 3 slices for me!"
"We try." I heard some of them said from outside.
I folded my arms and leaned against the frame of the door and watching Jason was busy putting the files and papers into his briefcase. He took the briefcase started leaving his seat and muttered, "Fine, I swear this is more important than the pizza."
"Are we leaving now?" I asked.
"Yea, I'm ready."
********
"Thank you so much, Summer. Now I'm not confusing about the plan." The lady in mid 30 smiled as she sipped her expresso.
She used her napkin to carefully tap her lips and said, "I agree with your recommendation. I'll take this package because it's more valuable."
I smiled at her, "I'm glad you made a wise choice. So," I trailed off and gently patted Jason who sat next to me and I said, "If anything you want to ask, don't hesitate to find Jason or me. I believe Jason can effectively complete your application and he is informative to provide further detail to you whenever you need."
I extended my hand to the lady and she gladly handshake me, "Sure, Thank you." She turned to Jason and said, "I'll fill in the form and I'll ask my assistant to send it to you after I have done it, Jason."
She clasped her hands together and sighed in relief, "I'm glad to take the right package for me. Also, I'm not clueless about the complicated plan anymore."
She checked the time on her watch and said, "Oh, I have to go. See you." She stared at me and said, "Again, thanks, Summer. I hope I'll see you again."
I nodded my head and smiled at her, "No problem, and have a nice day, Kelly." She smiled at us before she left.
"Jesus Christ, I have explained to her everything exactly yours. Why did she agree with you without any hesitation?" Jason said.
"Well, this is still not a case close business yet, Jason. Only if she officially hands the completed form to you." I said as I turned to him, "You're hardworking and working smart. But, you're lacking confidence, Jason."
He sighed and I explained patiently, "Look. If you're a customer when I try to explain the product without eyes contact with you. I directly read all the information from the description of the product, do you still want to buy it?"
He shook his head and said, "No, I'll not be convinced by you. I'll think that you're selling a fail product."
I nodded my head and said, "Exactly. So, in this case, we already made it halfway. The rest of the luck will depend on your effort, Jason."
His face lit up and said confidently, "Thank you, Summer. I'll do my best."
"That's good!" I said.
He checked his watch and said, "Oh shit! I have to go. I'll have another appointment at 3." He quickly stood up and rushed to the front door.
"Don't forget eye contact and boost your confidence to convince your clients. Good luck." I said.
He beamed, "Yes!" he straightened up his shirt before walked out of the café.
I chuckled to myself when I thought of the way Jason dealt with his clients. He would be nervous and stuttering when he talked to them. Also, he was the youngest and fresh experience on our team.
It was my turn to check my watch, it's already 2.45 and I decided to call it a day for my work. I decided to see Lotte earlier because I barely had time to catch up with her since I came back here.
I made a call to Helen, Nicholas's wife and she answered shortly, "Hey Summer, It's okay if you need to focus your working and Charlotte is fine."
I chuckled, "Well, your babysitting time of Lotte is over. I'm free now, Helen." She chuckled and I asked, "Where are you?"
"Oh, we are having tea break at 'The Newton's," Helen said.
The Newton's? This shop I had never heard of before but interesting.
"Okay. Can you send me the location?"
"Sure, I'll send it to your WhatsApp."
"Thanks. Oh yea, please don't tell Lotte that I'm coming. I want to give her a surprise."
"Okay."
I started walking to The Newton's after I received the location from Helen. That place was only across the street from the café I went to just now.
There has a row of shops and one of them caught my eyes. It was plain white with a light decoration and the signboard was written The Newton's. It looks new compare to the others shops.
Once I entered the shop, I inhaled the aroma of good coffee beans smell. The interior of the shop was minimal, clean, and all in white theme. This owner must be love everything in simple and comfortable by seeing the choice of furniture.
This place is almost fully occupied by teens and young adults. Most of them were busy working and having their drinks, some of them were enjoying their small gathering.
I was trying to search for Helen and Lotte and I finally found them at the corner of the coffee shop.
My heartbeat skipped a beat, and I was stunned at the same time when I saw the person who I was still in love with and always in my mind all the time. How could I be so negligent about the shop name?
My heart fluttered when I saw she was having fun with my baby girl and they look happy.
She was still that gorgeous and so natural. Her baby fat was gone her face was slimmer compare to last time. She didn't change much in her appearance, her beautiful long dark brown hair remains.
She was wearing a white knit round neck long sleeve sweater, skinny fade jeans, and a pair of light brown knee-length boots. As usual, she loved to wear anything in a plain color, but I loved that.
I was surprised Lotte was tag along with her, they were still engaging playing around. Lotte is talkative and outgoing like me, but she rarely fast to get along or having a close distance from new meet people.
They were giggling and Charli ticklish my baby girl caused her shrieked. I chuckled and relish the sweet moment of their friendship. I knew I was grinning like an idiot to see a lovely scene.
That was the scene I had ever picturing if Charli will be my wife someday.
I gradually walked towards them as I pressed my digit finger to my lips for asking Helen remained quiet and she gave me a nod with a smile.
"Booo!" I shocked my baby girl as her eyes widened and squealed, "Mummy!!!"
When Charli saw me, her beautiful blue eyes were dilated with her mouth opened ajar. Everything looks like slow in motion when I saw she gently loosened her arms around Lotte.
I felt pressure on my stomach as I realized my baby girl was hugging me with her face pressing my stomach.
I used a hand to caressed Lotte's head, but my eyes were still on the stunning Charli who still stare at me with the same expression.
I wanted to talk to her, but I lost my words. I only smiled and gave a nod at her. This was our first-time face to face after close to 6 years. I had no idea where to start our conversation because I left her in terrible condition.
She must be still deeply hating me about that.
"Mummy! You're early today!" Lotte said excitedly with tilted up her head as I bend down to peck on her forehead, and she gave me a toothy grin.
"Oh yes, I'm. Because I miss my Lotte." I showered my kisses around my baby girl's face cause she giggled.
I held Lotte's shoulder with both of my hands and I looked at Charli again. She was still staring at me with her widened blue eyes and parted lips.
I was interrupted by Helen before I could say anything, "Hey Summer, she is Charli, she's one of the owners of this coffee shop." I turned to Helen and nodded my head at her with a smile.
So, this coffee shop was owned by Charli and her parents. I was glad she made it. I remembered she told me that open a coffee shop was her dream. Also, I was proud of her with so many customers in her place, her drinks and pastries must be great selling in this town.
I bend down to hug Lotte and carried her in an arm as I extended another hand to her and said, "Hi, it's been a long time no see, Charli."
Charli quickly closed her mouth and handshake with me and said softly with a smile, "Hi, Summer,"
With simple hands touching and her gentle greeting I was much appreciated she didn't kick me out of her shop after how I had treated her.
I was still holding her hand to relish the warmth and softness, she was staring at me in confusion. We didn't break our eye contact like there had no one around with us.
She opened and closed her lips a few times and looks like many things wanted to say or asked me. So am I. There had tons of words were swimming in my head, but I couldn't say them all to her in a shot.
"Babe!" someone broke off us and I saw a brunette already attacked Charli with a bear hug. "Oh gosh! I miss you so much babe!" the brunette said as Charli was smiling happily and said, "I miss you too, babe."
'Babe' Very well, I was too late to get back Charli. I deserved that.
I masked the best smile on my face while watching the lovely pair still holding each other. My heart was tightened with every single movement the brunette did on Charli.
They finally pulled away as the brunette and Charli remained side-hug.
Pull yourself together and stay calm, Summer.
I extended my hand to the brunette and greeted, "Hi, nice to meet you. I'm Summer."
"The brunette smiled warmly at me and handshake with me, "Hi, nice to meet you too, I'm Autumn."
Charli's face looks like wanted to explain something to me. Well, she didn't have to. Everything was crystal clear for me. The longer I stayed here, the more I couldn't stand to see the lovely couple anymore.
I said with a smile, "Anyway, I have to go." I turned to peck Lotte's cheek and said, "Because I want to spend my time with my little precious one."
"Yay, I want to go home, mummy." Lotte grinned excitedly.
"Okay, baby girl." I smiled at Lotte and turned my attention to Charli said with a nod, "Thanks for taking care of Lotte too, Charli."
Charli flashed her cute smile at me and said, "You're welcome. Charlotte is a sweet girl." You're sweet too.
"Come on Lotte, say thank you to Charli and say goodbye to them, alright?" I said.
Lotte grinned as she was eagerly wanted to reach Charli. I gently let her down on her feet, and my baby girl walked toward and gently tugged Charli's sleeve.
Charli looks confused with furrowed her eyebrow at Lotte, but she just bends down wanted to ask my baby girl something.
Lotte hugged Chali and said, "Thank you, Charli." She pecked Charli's cheek caught her off guard. "Bye Charli and see you again."
Charli chuckled lightly at Lotte, she gently caressed Lotte's head and said genuinely, "It was nice to have so much fun with you just now, Charlotte. See you."
Lotte grinned as she bid Autumn goodbye before jumped toward me as I quickly caught and carefully carried her up.
Helen already finished packing her stuff and said, "We're going to have a long catch-up very soon, Autumn." She smiled, "Thanks for recommending me to this good place. I'm in love with the coffee and I'll definitely drop by again."
"Sharing is caring, my dear. I'm glad you like it." Autumn smiled as she waved at Helen, "Bye." I mentally groaned when I saw she linked her arm to Charli's.
I sighed under my breath once I get in Helen's car and sat in the backseat with Lotte and Nick.
I still couldn't get over the fact that Charli already moved on. I should expect this since I broke her heart and abandoned her for years. Who would be so forgiving? That must be a saint.
"So, Charli was the girl Autumn keep bragging to me that she is her coolest best friend," Helen said while she was driving.
Best friend? Did I hear that wrongly?
"Now I get it why Autumn was being supportive to this friend so much. Not only Charli's place has great coffee, but also Charli is a kind and nice girl. Charlotte likes her too, right?" Helen started at the mirror as Lotte nodded her head eagerly.
Best friend. Friend. Wait a goddamn minute!
I blinked my eyes and I asked, "They're not a couple, are they?"
Helen laughed, "No, Autumn has a boyfriend. They already planned to get married after they have settled down everything. Would be quite soon for them."
I stated confusedly, "But, they are very close with each other. Won't her boyfriend be jealous that she calls her best friend babe?"
"Well, she called all of her best friends as babe except her guy friends, her boyfriend doesn't mind at all." Helen said as she chuckled, "Don't think about hitting on Autumn, Summer. She's straight and unavailable."
She hummed, "You can think about Charli. I heard Autumn said that she is single and bisexual. But, Autumn told me that she was more into girls."
I couldn't help, but I was getting relieved and said with a hint of enthusiasm, "Right, Charli is a cup of my tea."
Helen nodded her head, "I know, the way you look at her like ready to devour her." She said as we burst out laughing.
"Mummy, Charli is not a food," Lotte said innocently as I quickly covered her ears with my hands and complained, Helen, you're making trouble to me. I guess I'll have long hours explanation to my baby girl."
Helen chuckled and said, "Oops! I'm sorry, my bad."
I chuckled as I removed my hands away from Lotte and switched a topic, "So, McD later?"
"Yay! I want nuggets." Lotte yelled excitedly with a pump fist.
"I want nuggets too," Nick added.
Thank god, she is still single and available, I'll be patient to win her back.
A/N: Here we are, what will Summer be ready to do?
