Chapter 41
The border didn't go down after another try.
Xisuma watched as Grian went through multiple stages of grief at once, wanting desperately to help his friend.
"So, that didn't work." Cub spoke up, closing his own admin commands. Other admins, demigods and others alike stood there just as lost and hopeless.
Xisuma turned, sighing. "Okay, that was our last shot. Thank you everyone who had came here to help out. Us Hermitcraft members will be staying here to assist any way possible and if any of you need help, just give us a call. We couldn't have attempted this without you." He said formally before turning again. He didn't care what anyone else did.
"X-"
"No, we need to stay focused, figure out how to help." Xisuma cut Cub off, the man nodding his head before turning and addressing the crowd. Xisuma walked to the border, putting his hand along it. It was peculiar, flashing purple unlike a usual border would. He knew it was due to the Watchers, making it extremely strong even against all the powers of over twelve demigods, powerful beings, and admins.
"Hey, X." He looked up to see Scar, smiling sadly. His hand was against the other side of the border, right where Xisuma's was.
"Hi," he greeted weakly. He glad his helmet was hiding his emotions from most although he knew the Hermits understood him inside and out.
"It will be alright."
"I hope so," Xisuma sighed, closing his eyes.
A few seconds later and there was a tap on his shoulder.
"X, I have something important." He turned to Cub, hearing the serious nature in his voice.
Behind cub stood another person. She looked nervous, fidling with her hoodie.
X raised an eyebrow but didn't say a word.
"Hi, I'm Pearl. I helped and all that but I also came to provide some insight." She introduced, holding her hand out. Xisuma shook it gently. "I know you called demigods and stuff so I came... I am kind of a demigoddess? Like not really but-" she took a deep breath. "Sorry for rambling, I'm just going to say it but this is magic I haven't seen for a long time. Watcher magic to be precise." She said softly as if she was scared to even utter it.
Xisuma nodded his head. "Yes, from my understanding they have been following the admin since their first server and have still caused problems."
She slightly gaped her mouth. "You know about... them? Not many people know."
Xisuma looked to Cub who just shrugged in response. "... How do you know about them?" His guard was now up in case if this was a Watcher in disguise. He wouldn't be surprised, they were tricky and cunning.
Pearl looked down. "Well, I am part Watcher unwillingly. The whole demigoddess thing was because of them, they overtook a server I was in an captured many of us. From what I understand, I may be the only one left from the server..." she whispered, eyes haunted.
Xisuma felt horrible for her. She looked like she had only just started to heal but she still looked in fear of them.
But the gears started turning.
"By any chance, what was the server called if you can say the name?" He asked her gently.
She looked back up to him. "Evo, short for Evolution."
Xisuma's eyes widened but he smiled slightly under his mask. "I have to introduce you to someone." He turned, noticing Scar nod his head and turn. After a brief few moments, Grian was back at the border but his eyes widened in surprise and slight relief.
She gasped at the sight of him. "Grian?" She called in shock. The Hermit nodded his head and they both ran to the wall, looking at each other intently as if the other was fake or would disappear. "Oh my god..." she whispered, setting her hand against the border. Grian did so as well, purple magic swirling around both of their hands. It shimmered but it was no longer the scary and violent power that Xisuma was so familiar. It looked safe and almost happy in a way.
"Pearl..." Grian said softly, eyes watering. "I thought you were gone..."
Pearl nodded her head. "I thought you were too."
Grian's eyes were filled with regret suddenly. "What happened?"
She shrugged. "I'm guessing the same as whatever happened to you except maybe a bit better? I don't know. I came and realized this was their magic. I had to see if I could help."
Tears finally streamed down Grian's face. "I'm glad you did, maybe we can find a way to solve this."
She hummed softly. "Just explain and I will do everything I can to help."
---
Jimmy felt uncomfortable under the newcomer's gaze. She was staring at him curiously and like she was familiar to her.
He could understand, he remembered Grian telling him that an apparition of him had been in Evo, Pearl had to have realized that he was the same person despite everything that looked different.
But it didn't make it any less uncomfortable.
"So, you kill me in order for both of you to simultaneously use your powers to get me out of the border?" He asked, trying to clarify their crazy plan. He knew that they had one but this was too outlandish, especially considering everyone involved with making the plans.
"Yes, that is the plan." Pearl nodded her head.
Doc and Stress looked to be in disagreement over the plans but they didn't say a word. The only comfort they got was that they would be right there when it happened.
Jimmy sighed. He really didn't want to go out in such a pitiful way. It sounded tragic especially if this was how he was going to die.
"Well, who is going to kill me?" He asked looking around at the group on his side of the border. Nobody would look up.
It was a constant he was getting used to. It was hard for them to ignore the explosion and burn scars before but all the selfharm and suicide attempt scars had made it worse. It didn't help that he no longer looked human, he was sure.
There was silence.
He rolled his eyes. "So nobody is going to kill me? How will this work if nobody is willing? I could always do it myself-"
"Absolutely not." Doc interupted. "Attempts on own lives with intent of never living are usually permanent even on infinite servers. We cannot be sure considering your recent mental state. Somebody is going to have to go through it if they want this plan to work."
They sat again in silence, Jimmy looking at everyone and seeing if anyone would attempt to agree.
But nobody would.
He sighed. "How about this? We make it fun and continue the game?" Jimmy asked, suggesting to the group.
They looked at him like he was more of a freak than normal.
"Continue the game? A death game that you may not live from? What happens if you are the last one out? Then what?" Martyn asked, completely serious and unlike his usual goofy nature.
Jimmy shrugged. "I doubt I'm going to win, I have never held a sword in my life besides just recently. So that won't be a problem."
Scott shook his head. "That is still really morbid and wrong. It is not a game if you might really die."
Jimmy scoffed. "Well could you guys just pretend that it is a game? Just grant me some normal semblance for once?" Everyone was silent, the only sounds were the wind. "Act like I am a normal player, act like this is a game. I don't want my last day to be everyone mourning me before I am actually dead. Just pretend for me and that would be enough, then I could die happy."
Grian's eyes were tearing up. "No, we can't-"
Jimmy stopped him with a single look. "Okay, just think about this, it might be the last day of my life and you all are trying to control it. Just let me have what I want. It is my own death afterall."
It was silent again as everyone was thinking over everything.
But finally, Joel took a deep breath, a sob escaping.
"Sure, fine. If this is what you really want, give us some time and this can happen. Give us time to accept it and then we can start the game. Thank you for telling us what you want." Jimmy nodded his head at Joel's words. He knew that nobody would disagree with Joel considering that people gave him the most power in this situation at this point with his relationship being the most intact with Jimmy. Joel knew him best and what he needed.
Jimmy smiled softly. He could always count on Joel. "Thank you."
He didn't wait for anybody else's response before getting up.
They wouldn't see the few tears that escaped when he walked away anyways.
(Oop, plan in action soon?)
