chapter 38 (i think?)

(Mention of seizures, and mostly every other single warning in this book, i think.)

It felt fast to Joel.

One second, Jimmy was begging and yelling at Joel to keep the secret safe and the next, the cod hybrid had fully collapsed. It Joel hadn't been standing a few feet away, he surely would have landed on his head.

Joel pulled Jimmy to his chest, panicking as he looked down at the person he considered a little brother. Jimmy's eyes had rolled to the back of his head and he was spasming.

He didn't even realize he was screaming for help until arms pried him away.

Joel felt his heart drop into his stomach but he felt completely detatched as people tried to usher him away.

---

Jimmy woke up slowly.

His entire body felt tired and his tongue ached, tasting like blood in his mouth. But when he realized that he didn't remember going to sleep or that these pains weren't like the usual (cuts along his wristd and thighs, whip scars along his back, burn scars that scratched against the pillow), he snapped his eyes open. It was more so a dull and continuous pain. He could handle it but he felt like he was in jello.

"Jimmy!" His eyes instantly snapped to his... partner and widened.

Scott looked like a mess. He was wearing a typical elven wedding dress, long but lacy in many places. However, he no longer looked pristine. The little make up that he had put on meticulously for the special day was smudged on his cheeks and around his eyes. The blue lace was ruined by black mascara all along the sleeves.

"Hey," he replied weakly, smiling sadly. He hated seeing Scott like this.

Scott let out a small sob but fanned himself off in an effort to keep it down.

"Just cry if you need to, Petal. It's healthy," Jimmy whispered, wanting to lift his hand but knowing he was too exhausted to. Scott looked like he wanted to speak but was interrupted by the floor creaking slightly.

"Hey, Tim." Grian said tiredly, bags around his eyes. He also looked to be in a state of mess but another note was the purple aura around him.

Jimmy doesn't think anyone else can see it.

"Hi, what happened?" He asked, weakly sitting up. It was hard but he managed.

Grian looked like he was contemplating his words. "Well," he started, voice shaky, "you had been talking with Joel. We were about to come get you again when we heard him screaming. We found you having a seizure in Joel's arms."

It suddenly hit Jimmy that they were having a wedding, one that he had surely ruined like he had with everything else. It's his fault that his friends look distraught, it's his fault that he is disformed beyond repair, it's his fault that he made a promise with the devil. It's his fault he had destroyed the wedding and the one he loves  (does he truly though?).

"I-I-" he was ready to apologize but Grian grimaced, cutting it off.

"You have nothing to apologize for. It's not your fault you had a seizure, we just wish we could know what caused it. We know it is most likely from a head injury but if it from stress, heat, or something else?" His voice was soft and he looked like his heart was broken at the thought. Jimmy didn't blame him, even the name of seizures sounded terrifying. He can't begin to imagine what he looked like.

Jimmy shrugged, "Stress maybe? But it wasn't all that stressful to be honest."

Grian nodded his head. "Okay, maybe it was something you were talking about with Joel? We could avoid the subject or is it the wedding that stressed you out?"

Jimmy could see the pain on Scott's face, likely if he agreed that that it had to do with the wedding but he didn't want to inadvertently place the blame on Joel for pushing him to hard. He could just make something up, maybe.

"Um... well..." he bit his lip, tryjng to think fast, "I was really just wanting my parents to be at the wedding. It has been awhile since I have seen them and I feel bad that they don't have the chance to see it."

Unfortunately, that looked like the wrong thing to say.

Scott was now looking away in guilt. Grian looked pained at the declaration.

"Honey, we could have waited until we were off server to invite your parents. You should have told me." Scott said softly but Grian's head snapped toward him, mouth slightly agape.

"That is not how this works, Scott!" Jimmy looked at them both in surprise, seeing anger and resentment flashing on both of their faces. "You cannot just lie and expect him to not feel awful when he can't have what we promise!" He angrily muttered, trying to keep quiet but it wasn't hard for Jimmy to interpret considering it was right in front of him.

"That doesn't mean we don't have to be gentle about this instead of loud and brash!" Scott bit back, a fire lighting in his eyes.

"That's called a false promise! I cannot believe that you are just willing to lie straight in front of all of us."

"I can't believe that you are just going to deny some semblance of hope after he had a fucking seizure!"

"Oh you-"

"Stop it!" Jimmy shouted, interupting their argument, just as the magical aura around Grian turned violent. "You idiots, absolutely idiots." He muttered when they turned to him in shock. He laughed softly. "I can't believe you never even realized that I realized a long time ago that I remember the palace and everything that had happened." He shut his eyes, fists clenched. "I'm still just that innocent, gullible, and ignorant little kid to both of you, huh? Grian, I had thought you were trying. It's obvious I was too hopeful. And Scott... I thought you were better."

Scott's mouth opened slightly in shock but he quickly changed, trying to talk just as Grian was trying to. They both looked guilty, betrayed.

And Jimmy hated it.

"Shut up, both of you just leave me alone!" He screamed, feeling his heart pound against his chest. "If you really want to apologize, leave and think of a better apology, I don't need you both fighting in front of me again!"

And surprisingly, they did leave.

---

The moment the door shut behind the two, Jimmy got up from the bed shakely and started tearing his clothes off. Angry tears burned in his eyes, making the already blurry surrounding more discombobulating. But he didn't care, he just needed them off.

The sounds of fabric tearing was heard in the silent room right next to his quickened breathing and raged sobs. Even once the clothes were off, he was still tearing them up with all of the energy he could muster. He was still held down by the Ocean Empire and he wanted away.

Eventually, he got himself to stumble to one of the dressers and pulled it open, grabbing a pair of his clothes; a large super hero sweater, and a pair of sweatpants.

Feeling tired, he went back to the bed, sitting down to put the clothes on.

But his reflection caught his attention.

There, in the mirror, was the glistening form of an aquatic hybrid. With the gills to his neck to the webbed fingers he had only just noticed. To put the cherry on top, underneath all of those burn scars and injuries from the explosion, Jimmy could see the whip scars perfectly clear along his pale skin. Self harm scars went from his shoulders to just past his wrists.

The most damning thing of all was the rope scar across his neck.

It was right there, across what used to be an empty canvas was now the light etching of a rope. His gills on the sides of his neck were now cracked and broken, never to be fixed again.

Jimmy heard the sound of glass breaking before feeling blood pool from his fists.
