Chapter 14
(Warnings: :((( its just sad.)
(I would like to note that Ive never said anyone's age other than Jimmy's after he has had a birthday unless i just forget. This is the canon ages for this fic. Jimmy is 9, Lizzie is 17 and Grian is 20 at this point. Yes, Jimmy is a child compared to his seablings and yes, its really sad.)
Just when he thought that it couldn't get worse, it did.
But also better?
Jimmy had been eating lunch, Ben eating as well. They were silent, as if feeling the tension in the air.
"Grian, you don't get to run off again!"
And there it was.
Lizzie rushed down the hall passed the dining room, following Grian who was grumbling with a suitcase. Jimmy looked to Ben.
They both nodded and got up, abandoning their food.
Jimmy walked down the halls after his seablings. He needed to know what was happening.
"Lizzie, I'm sick of this stupid palace! I hate it here!" Grian shouted back at Lizzie, continuing to stomp away.
"Oh no, you don't get to leave me here!" Lizzie yelled back.
"We can't have all the royal heirs running off! You stay with Timmy and you will be fine!"
"Why do I have to stay! Why can't you!"
"Because you placed the role of ruling an entire kingdom on a child! That's your fault!" Grian huffed.
"But you did the same with me!"
"Yeah, but you are actually capable! Timmy-"
"Why do you NEVER even call him the right name?"
"What do you mean! His name is-"
"It's Jimmy! Not Timmy! You have been gone so long that you have forgotten your own brother's name and instead just assumed that the name you called him when you actually loved him was the same! You've forgotten!"
"So what, Lizzie? Are you going to tell him I hate him? Is that really your threat to me right now?" Grian stopped walking, a threatening tone laced his voice. "Because yeah, he's annoying and useless. I've forgotten how it was to love him. So you would be right. But, don't forget that you hate him too."
Jimmy stared silently.
Ben glared at the older seablings. "You should be ashamed of yourselves!" They shouted at the prince and princess, not concerned about the punishments that would be inflicted for bad mouthing the royal family. The two were wide-eyed when they noticed Jimmy.
"It's fine, Ben." Jimmy muttered under his breath. "Just drop it, I'm used to this by now." He turned and walked down the hall, Ben following.
Lizzie and Grian stayed behind.
---
Jimmy was looking out the window when he saw Lizzie and Grian outside.
He felt bitter.
His anger took over as he quickly walked down the the halls to the entrance. He wanted to speak his mind.
However, when he made it to the doors that opened, he stopped.
"Do you have to go?" His father said, slouched stance.
"It's not good here. We are going to find something and grow for the better. I'm sorry." Lizzie said, guilt written on her face. She was wearing commoners clothing.
"We aren't good for you guys, not yet. We will be back when we are ready." Grian agreed nodding his head.
That's when Jimmy noticed the packed suitcases behind them.
Grian had the same bags he had last time, patches stitched into the cloth of places he's been.
Lizzie had brand new suitcases, pink much like her natural color. They had never traveled anywhere other than to their mother's. There was no need to suitcases then.
"Lizzie? Grian?" Jimmy called. He felt the blood rush down his body. Everything felt cold.
"Jimmy..." Grian whispered. He looked hurt and had an identical guilty expression on his face.
"We aren't good for you. We are awful seablings to you. We will be back when we are good enough for you." Lizzie explained, not looking at Jimmy.
"But you are good enough for me! I'm used to it at this point but I still love you both." Jimmy looked away from them.
"Tim, I love you so much." Grian pulled him in for a hug, holding him close. "I'm sorry for the way I've been recently. I-I'm going to figure this out. I'm going to work hard so I'm not... so I don't scare you." Grian whispered into his hair. "I'm not myself. I will get better." He then kissed the top of his head before pulling back, Lizzie walked forward.
"Jim-" he lunged at her and held her tight. He hasn't lived without her. She was the only constant in his life even if she hated him. He thought she would never leave. She started to cry. "I'm sorry for how horrible I've treated you, none of this is your fault and I should have never blamed you. I'm proud of how far you've come. You are so strong and smart and you are everything good in this world. Please, don't change." She said, patting his back.
After another minute, they pulled apart.
Jimmy couldn't bring himself to cry.
He watched as they entered a commoner's carriage and trot away.
And Jimmy just stood there.
Unable to pull his family together.
(Boogie woogie, time for Big Man Jim to heal)
