Chapter 3

Astrid's P.O.V.

My vision was in and out for hours. Every time I opened my eyes, Hiccup would feed my lungs something that made me go out again. I knew this much: we were in a  helicopter. After a few hours, it finally landed and Hiccup and some female agent wheeled me out on a stretcher before taking me to a building. I tried to get free but the straps held fast. Shocked gasps rose around us as they took me down a hall. Hiccup was pulled to the side by someone I guessed as his boss.

"How the heck did you do it, Haddock?" the mans voice reached my ears.

"She was way easier than you guys thought. One of the rookies could've gotten her," Hiccup replies before we get out of ear shot. I try to raise one of my arms but the knock out gas made me a little on the weak side. The lady reaches for the gas tank but stops when Haddock calls to her. "Stormfly! Enough with the gas. Let her scream if she wants to," he says as he walks toward us and she takes the mask off. My lungs explode at the taste of real oxygen, making me not want to stop inhaling.

"Was the dart, the most necessary tactic?" I ask through clenched teeth.

"Mh, little bit," Hiccup says nonchalantly, leaning against the stretcher.

"What about the gas, was that needed?!"

"Kept you quiet," he says with a shrug. I let my head slump and close my eyes in misery as soreness slowly crept across my head. "You'll get used to the head ache," Haddock says. I wanted to laugh but I couldn't. He thought the head ache was what I was about to cry about?! A freaking head ache?! I didn't even cry when I got shot in the shoulder! (No bragging intended) I hear the clicks of the buckles being released and shot to my feet before lunging for the agent I assumed as Stormfly. I hold her in a choke hold and pull the gun out of my boot before aiming at her temple. "Why did we not think to disarm you? Come on, Hiccup, you're off your game," Haddock says, hitting his head with his palm.

"Back off!" I shout as more agents take a step forward to grab me, "I'll shoot her!" Haddock simply chuckles, taking a single step forward leisurely.

"You had the chance to shoot me and you didn't," he says, hands in pockets.

"Okay," I say and shoot his foot before resuming aim at Stormfly. He stays silent as he looks from his foot to me and back again, everyone staring at the blood that was starting to pool around his shoe. It was eerily silent for a moment so I decided to break it. "I can shoot a little higher if you want. I got lots of bullets left." Finally, pain glazes his eyes and he collapses before one of his coworkers caught him and helped him stand. Then, I heard the click of a gun cocking and paused, not taking my eyes off Haddock as they put him on the stretcher and took him out, probably on the way to the infirmary or something.

"You shoot my best agent?" a voice sneers on my left.

"He kidnapped me, I think I have the right to fight back," I snarl as Stormfly tries to pull my arm from her neck. I just tighten my grip, on her and the trigger. Then, the guy next to me shot his gun and the bullet scrapped my bicep, making me release his agent as I let out a shout of pain. Stormfly disarmed me and someone else cuffed my hands behind my back after pinning me to the floor.

Hiccup's P.O.V.

I grunted in pain as the doctor extracted the blood-covered bullet from my foot. "Well, I got good news and bad news. Which do you wanna hear first?" he asks as he throws the bullet away and goes to his computer.

"I could use some bad news," I say as I look at the hole in my foot.

"She knows how to aim. Shattered a lot of bones. That's one skilled gun-woman there; Dad must've been a hunter. We're gonna have to amputate it," he says as he types.

"And the good news?" I ask, looking away from my blood as I start to become nauseous. When I'm watching someone else bleed I'm fine, but when it's your own blood, it's a little nerve wracking, let me tell you.

"You'll walk again," he says and I nod. "Okay, a nurse will be in here shortly to prep you for surgery," the doctor says as he walks out, patting my shoulder.

"Thanks doc," I say before the door closes. She was supposed to be an undercover agent. What was she doing with multiple guns?! Then the nurse comes in and helps me change before giving me a shot as my boss comes in.

"Haddock," he greets with a nod which I return.

"How is she, Alvin?" I ask as he sits next to me.

"Secured. Disarmed. Out," he says and I nod.

"When I get out of here, she's gonna wish she never met me," I growl.

"She already does. All the way to her cell she was screaming at herself for going to your hotel room," he says with laughter in his voice.

"I guess not even the great Astrid Hofferson can reject my charm the first time," I say with mock arrogance, "They always wanna pay me back with some charm of their own..."

"Yeah, the choice words she used...weren't that charming," he said as I started to get tired.

"Well, boss, I think it's time for my foot to say bye-bye, so I should go," I say, slurring slightly.

"Okay. Attack that surgery," he says and pats my shoulder before walking away. Before he can get more than two paces, I grab his wrist and make him pause to look at me.

"Promise me you won't do anything until I'm there?" I ask, like a little kid asking for candy. He smirks.

"You caught her, you negotiate with her," he says and I nod before letting go and he walks out. Then I fall into a dreamless sleep...or close to dreamless.
