Izuku's pov
I ran to y/n's house as fast as I could. Today was our first day at U.A! When I arrived at her front door, my plans of knocking were useless, since I was immediately met with that beautiful smile that makes my heart melt.

"c'mon! Today's the first day!" she grabbed my wrist and started dragging me along. Oh, how I love her enthusiasm.

We ran at top speed, practically dashing towards U.A. We walked around the school, searching for our class.

Class 1-A, class 1-A, class 1-A, ah! There it is!

"Woah! This door is huge!"

"well, it might be because of students with gigantification quirks."

"hmmm... Makes sense!

We walk in, to see the chaos the class was in. There was a boy with blue hair and glasses who was scolding kacchan for putting his feet on the table. The latter ignored him, annoying glasses boy even more.

He then turned around and eyed the two of us.

"oh! It's you two! The ones who saved the girl!" he called, rushing over to our direction.

"I'm Iida. Iida Tenya! Oh! And you're l/n y/n! Right? I've heard you had gotten first place in the entrance exam and was invited to participate in the recommendation exam, which you also got top 1 in, right?"

Y/n sweatdropped and rubbed the back of her neck.

"uh, yeah. How'd you know?"

"you're basically the person everyone has been talking about!"

Y/n looked down in embarrassment not knowing she was already well-known in U.A.

"and you!" he called, turning to me.

"what's your name?"

"Midoriya! Midoriya Izuku!"

Before we continued talking, I heard a girl's voice call out y/n's name.

"l/n-san!"

"Uraraka-san!"

I looked back at the two, who were already engaged in a conversation.

"oh! Before I forget! I'd like to thank both of you for saving me back at the entrance exam!" she exclaimed while eyeing the two of us.

Y/n gave that beautiful warm close eyed smile I love.

"of course! A hero never says no to saving a life!"

Before the two could engage in a long conversation, a man inside a sleeping bag had disrupted.

"It took you 8 seconds to shut up. Time is limited. You kids are not rational enough."

"I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shota. Nice to meet you."

Homeroom teacher?!

"It's kind of sudden, but put this on and go out onto the field."

Y/n's pov
We were told about the quirk assessment test. Aizawa sensei had also told us about how he would expel the student who scores worst in the test.

First test: 50-meter dash

This seems to be just like the recommendations exam, just shorter. I was up against Iida, whose quirk is engine.

'Let's see if I can beat him'

I got ready to activate my quirk. When the signal notified that it was time to start, I pushed myself forward with my wind quirk.

"2.06 seconds!"
"3.04 seconds!"

Second test: grip strength

I'm not entirely sure what to do here since I haven't developed a trick to somewhat strengthen myself.

Though I did learn how to increase the speed of one's body system, so maybe I could alter the trick so that it can increase any aspect of the body.

I focused all my energy on the hand that was holding the device. I noticed my hand started to glow white, and so I decided to try if it worked.

'510.5 kg' it read

Not too bad for my first try, looks like I've come up with a new trick.

Third test: standing long jump

I activated my wind quirk and lifted myself with the wind. I was able to land on the spot I was supposed to.

"cleared sandbox!"

Fourth test: repeated side steps

Nothing much I can do--

Fifth test: ball throw

After Uraraka just scored infinity I felt like I had to do the same. I needed to prove that I was worthy of winning my spot as top 1 in the recommendations exam.

I slowly increased the strength and the speed of the wind. When the wind itself was already fast and strong, I gathered wind at the palm of my hand and threw the ball with all my might(pun intended, jkjk).

Once it was pretty far, I blew more wind at the ball, sending it further away. I continued to do the same process until it couldn't be seen. Just to be sure, I continued to blow wind towards the ball, until my score was declared.

"another infinity?!"

I smiled and wiped the sweat off my forehead, proud I was able to keep up.

I walked back to the class and stood beside Uraraka.

"that was amazing l/n-san! You got infinity too! I presume you were the cause of the intense wind?"

"yep, I used it to keep the ball in the air" I said, smiling proudly.

"no wonder you were first in both the entrance exam AND the RECOMMENDATIONS exam! Your quirk's so strong! And you have great control over it!"

Now, it was Deku's turn. I saw him activate his quirk and got ready to throw. When he threw the ball, his quirk didn't work.

Aizawa sensei's quirk

Aizawa sensei pulled Deku towards him and seemed to lecture him. Seconds later, he released Deku and claimed to have returned his quirk.

He took a deep breath, and began to throw the ball without activating his quirk?

I looked closer and noticed that his quirk was only used by his finger, minimizing the amount of damage, but maximizing the amount of force.

"705.3 meters!"

I smiled at his achievement, but that smile faded as soon as I saw his finger broken.

Damn it Deku, you still broke your finger!

I sighed, at least he did it.

The last three tests

After the last three tests, Aizawa-sensei revealed the results. My eyes scanned the whole board, from first to last place.

My heart sank as I read who placed last.

Based on what I've heard about Aizawa-sensei, he's expelled a whole class of first years before, so when he threatens to expel someone, it's no joke.

"and about me expelling last place, that was a lie"

The whole class was shocked, besides me, and Yaoyorozu, if I'm correct.

"I knew it. It was only a threat to push us, I guess-"

"no."

Everyone's eyes landed on me as I looked directly into our sensei's eyes.

"It wasn't a threat, stop lying to us, Mr. Aizawa. I know about your record"

The whole class seemed confused, but I continued on.

"you were known for expelling a whole class of first years back then"

The whole class was shocked, so I continued.

"When you say you're gonna expel, someone, it's no joke, so there must be a reason you changed your mind, and I believe I know why"

Aizawa-sensei gave me a lop-sided smile.

"you're a smart and strong kid, I've seen that based on your results in the exam, and your results right now. You must have done your research before going to school. What you're saying is true"

The class' shock grew as Aizawa-sensei confirmed my statement on his record.

"by right, I meant you're right about both things you've said. Both my record and the fact I have a reason not to expel Midoriya. So, I'm curious, what do you think is the reason as to why I won't be expelling anyone?"

"it's simple"

I returned the lop-sided smile, and gave a slightly smug look, narrowing my eyes at him.

"you clearly see that he has potential. In the beginning, you said whoever comes in last will be considered HOPELESS and would be expelled. At the mention of a student being expelled, your gaze was fixed on Deku, making it obvious you were singling him out."

His expression changed to shock, indicating I was right.

"Later on, as he was about to activate his quirk, you took it, cause you knew it would break his arm. It was seen by the class that you lectured him, which was most likely about how he would break his arm, and expect someone to always be there to patch him up"

His eyes widened even more at the mention, so I was right.

"When you released him and returned his quirk, you most likely were shocked to see that only his finger was damaged. After throwing the ball, Deku told you he was still standing, which you responded to with shock, which further confirms my suspicions"

The whole class stared at me, shock evident in their eyes. Aizawa-sensei gave a low chuckle and smiled at me.

"The school board was right to invite you to the recommendations exam. You're a damn smart kid, and you've proven that further just now. Yes, I do see potential in him, so consider yourself lucky, Midoriya"

He eyed him, sending him a small glare.

"and as for you"

He looked back at me, sending me an unreadable glare.

"I'd like to commend you, and your intelligence. I expect great things from you"

I smiled and gratefully bowed.

"Midoriya, take this and go to recov--"

"that's unnecessary, I'll do it"

Aizawa-sensei gave me a questioning look as I walked over to Deku.

I gently placed my finger on his hand, healing his broken finger.

"my, that's the second time you've interrupted someone from this class."

I bowed apologetically

"apologies, it's just that I had the opportunity to tell the class the truth, and to avoid unnecessary visits to recovery girl"

"unnecessary?"

"recovery girl might be busy. It may be a fracture, but it's only his finger, which I can easily heal. I don't want to interrupt her with only a small injury"

Aizawa-sensei nodded at me and motioned for everyone to go.

"l/n-San!"

I looked behind me to see Uraraka running towards us.

We started to converse, her asking for Iida and Deku's name beforehand, to which she mistakenly thought Deku was Izuku's actual name.

"but didn't Bakugo and l/n-San call you that?"

"well, yeah, but, kacchan calls me that to make fun of me, while y/n-san calls me that cause she gave it an amazing meaning, so I agreed on letting her call me Deku"

"oh! Sorry, but, it would make a great hero name"

"I know right!"

"Plus, it kinda sounds like 'you can do it' whenever I hear it! So, is it alright if I too, call you Deku?"

"sure! Deku it is!"
