Chapter 17
Annabeth
I wrap my arms around my center, giving me the strength to have this discussion with him. Before I was in his presence, I had it all worked out in my head. I would charge in and demand he tell me everything! However, once his eyes were on me, looking at my body from the top of my head all the way down to my toes, I couldn't help but lose some of my bravado. The rest of it flew out the window once his eyes took on a hooded look.
I no longer was a nuisance bothering him while he was trying to sleep. No, instead his eyes were looking at me as though he would eat me if given the chance. That thought shouldn't make my heart skyrocket, or my toes curl in my shoes, but it doesn't stop my body's reaction. I hadn't realized where we were going, my eyes cast down at the ground, thinking of how I wanted to do this, when suddenly I am bumping into his back.
He whips around, his arm wrapped around my center, and it takes me a moment to realize what he's doing. When I see the light blue sky behind his head, I realize I had almost fallen back, but he caught me just in time. I'm breathing hard, being this close to him. I can see little green specks in his eyes. Studying him further I can see when he smiles, he has a dimple that shows on his cheek.
His lips are beautiful. I know that sounds weird describing them that way, but they are. They are pink, plump, and I find myself imagining biting down hard on his bottom one. He stands tall, bringing me with him. My hands land on his shoulders, as our noses touch with the excursion.
I can't help myself, my hands grab on tight to his shoulders, before working their way down to his chest. I can feel his heart beating faster as I explore him for the first time. He is just as effected by me as I am him. I hear a growl building in his throat, that sound making my thighs rub together. Trying and failing miserably to get the fire growing between my legs extinguished.
"What did you want to talk about?" His voice sounds gruff, as his arm tightens around my center. He takes a few steps backward, leaning his body against a tree. He looks down at me, his eyes hungry with need. I'm certain mine look similar as I try to shake my head to clear those thoughts away.
"Could you umm..." I look down, his eyes follow.
I feel his hand tighten behind me before his fist loosens and he releases me. Taking a few steps back, away from him, I clear my throat. Trying to work through my muddled thoughts. I turn away from him, taking a deep breath and releasing it a moment later.
"I need to know that I'm not crazy." I start with a whisper.
I hear him snort at me, whipping around I see the egotistical male with his leg behind him along the tree. A cigarette at his lips, he takes a deep drag from it, before blowing it out his nose. His head turning to the side, waiting for me to continue. When I don't, he lifts his hand in the air waving me to finish my thought.
"I know there is something more here. This isn't just 'gifted' students." I air quote with my fingers the word.
"There's more to this place isn't there?"
As my words fall from my lips, the breeze picks up. My hair blowing in my face, I pull my sweater tighter around me. Looking up at the sky I can see grey clouds forming above us. It makes no sense. It was just clear skies, sunny, and warm only moments before.
"You certain you want the answer to that." I hear him whisper in my ear, causing me to jump back.
I hadn't realized he moved close to me I was so distracted. I watch in a trance as he throws his cancer stick down to the ground, stomping it out. I can see he's licking his teeth behind his closed mouth.
Sweeping his eyes up and down my body, he brings his thumb to his lips and rubs his bottom lip. A moment later, he looks directly into my eyes. His once blue green eyes are now pure gold. The change causes me to stumble backwards. This time he lets me fall, my ass hitting the hard ground. I wince in pain, but don't remove my eyes from his.
He laughs at me, "I think the real question you should be asking yourself is who the hell you are?" He bends down so he's eye level with me once more.
Bringing his hand close to my face, he rubs his finger along my tightly closed lips, down my chin, and I feel them disappear below my sweater.
"Well, I suppose I should say what you are." He shrugs his shoulders. As though everything he is saying right now makes sense.
Deciding there is a good chance this man kneeling in front of me is crazy, I scramble back, lifting myself up with my hands along the ground. Wiping them clean, I turn to face him, realizing my mistake a second later. The school is behind him, meaning the only thing behind me at the moment is the forest.
He laughs, the sound holds no joy, only a sadistic sound to it, that brings real fear to my bones. I'm shaking where I stand, I watch in curiosity and fascination, as he lifts his head, closes his eyes, and takes a deep breath of the air surrounding us. I'm stunned when he opens his eyes, instead of saying a word, he simply lifts his shirt up over his head.
I take a step back, not removing my eyes from the confusing man before me. With a devious smile he unbuttons his pants and brings his zipper down. Is he going to do bad things to me now? There's a pulse between my legs that shouldn't be there at that thought. No! I should be horrified at the idea.
"I'm not going to do anything that won't excite you at your core." He answers my silent question.
Taking another step back, I hear the snap of a branch. We both stop where we stand, frozen, looking at one another.
"You may want to run little human." I don't have time to think about what he called me. I only turn away and run through the trees, my heart beating faster and faster as I push myself further along.
The sound of a dog howling has me looking behind me for a moment. The rustle of branches, and twigs snapping behind me has me picking up the pace. I knew there was something more to the people here.
More behind the grungy walls and fake smiles from the people of this school. Now, I'm about to get my answers, and a big part of me thinks I should have just been left in the dark.
