Chapter 16
Ezekiel
Five Days Earlier...
Once my new obsession is out of my sight, I make my way to my vehicle. I make sure to go the back way and use the underground tunnels. That way no one will bother the hell out of me. I have no time to talk, or with all the little female witches and Were's time to listen as they blubber on about some nonsense.
Nope, I don't have time for anything, other than getting home and demanding my mother and father tell me everything they know. I should have known something was up with this. I know they try to keep Arthur as tame as they can by giving him what he wants usually but giving him permission to marry a human female I couldn't comprehend.
Now it's all starting to make sense. There is something more to her daughter, although judging by the way they have nothing in common with one another. Not in the looks department, or facial expressions, nor their body language. Something tells me that isn't her real mother. Either way I'm going to find out tonight.
I place my car in reverse and squeal my tires the entire length of the underground garage. Only the higher and more powerful family bloodlines are allowed to park down here. The guards must be able to tell I'm in no mood to talk or discuss things. They simply open the gate and watch as I speed out of the cave.
Normally, I take my sweet time on the ride back to the estate. Anything to make the trip drag on I do. Whether its stopping for gas, pulling over to take a piss, or being an asshole and slowing down on purpose to piss off whoever is behind me.
Not today! I'm going well over the speed limit, as I fly by, not stopping at any stop signs or red lights. Briefly, I hear people honk their horns at me as I speed on by them. I pay them no mind, nothing matters to me right now but getting the truth.
Within an hour, I pull up outside of the estate. My father's men don't waste anytime opening the iron gate for me, and I speed on up right to the front door. I waste no time putting the car in park, pulling the keys out of the ignition, and hopping out. Taking the steps two at a time, another man pulls open the door for me.
"Father!" I holler out into the extravagant room, hearing the sound of my voice echo off the pristine white walls and tall ceilings. Wasting no time, I walk through the ornate halls, down some stairs, opening all the doors, looking for the man I hate with a passion.
"He isn't here darling." The sound of my mother's voice behind me has me turning around.
She's leaning her shoulder against the wall, her head tilted to the side as she squints at me. Studying her, I can see she's got a scotch in one hand, and her phone in the other.
"Mother, have you been drinking all day?" I ask while walking closer to her. She lets out a giggle, one that I have heard time and time again. It has no joy in the sound, it holds more of misery.
"Why do you ask me that darling? You clearly know the answer." She pats my cheek with her hand holding the cell phone, I think she forgot it was there.
"Where is he?" I try to keep my voice neutral, but I fail miserably. She drops her hand from my face, taking a sip of her drink, as she turns her body to slide down the wall.
"Where do you think? He's with one of his many whores." She snorts below her breath. I am anything but amused. My parents have been like this my entire life. Everyone knows in our world you seldom marry for love, it's more all about power, but my mother was in love once. Apparently, her father made an agreement with my father's, and she tried to run away with the love of her life. Needless to say, it didn't go well. She never got her happy ever after.
If she wasn't a werewolf, I'm positive she would kill herself, but unfortunately for her our kind heals quickly. Meaning even if she tried it wouldn't do her any good. I slide down to the floor, leaning my head back against the wall, enjoying the quiet and solitude of our home. If you can even call it that.
"You found out, didn't you?" Her voice whispered in my ear has my eyes popping open, and my head turning in her direction.
I must look as confused as I am because she clarifies. "About the little human girl." She takes another sip of her drink. Her words have my attention. I turn my body to face her, knowing good and well she is drunk enough to give me everything I want to know.
"Well, she isn't really human at all." She laughs under her breath.
"That's why your dear old daddy allowed Arthur to marry her mother. To get Annabeth under his control." She looks at me out of the corner of her eye. Licking my lips, I give her a nod to let her know I'm listening. Hoping she will go on with more information.
"Truth is we've been looking for her for many years. She's the last of them." Her eyes begin drooping, as her head leans further to the side.
"Mom." I shake her shoulder, causing her eyes to open wider. Turning to face me, she drops her now empty glass and brings her hands to my face, "I knew the moment I met her she was yours." She taps my cheek with her fingers, giving me a watery smile on her lips.
"What do you mean mother?" I ask below my breath, knowing full well when her head hits my shoulder that she isn't awake any longer. I lay my head on top of hers, awaiting for the man whore who is my father to come home. So, he can take her to bed, and we can have a nice chat about things.
Present Day
I sit back in my chair at the cafeteria table, watching everyone as they walk by me. Nodding my head every time someone tries to gain my attention. Deciding, I have a lot to think about, I cancel everyone out by bringing my hat down over my eyes, stretching my legs to the chair across from me, and place a quiet spell surrounding me.
Now that I can't hear a thing, I have time to work out everything my mother had said to me that day. As well as the things my father told me about little Annabeth when he returned home. A sly smile forms on my lips just thinking about it. What the girl doesn't know is she really is mine. Hell, her father, and biological mother went through great lengths to keep her away from me.
They wanted her to have a normal, human life, one where we would never meet. Meaning the mating bond wouldn't have an effect, and she would have a choice of what she really wanted in life. Too bad for them, that somehow, we found her, living with a human woman, and now she's right where she belongs.
I feel someone kick my legs from the chair, causing them to land hard on the floor. Not being in the mood to deal with anyone's shit when I'm trying to work through all this, I raise my hat from my eyes, and reverse the spell below my breath. Ready to beat the shit out of whoever did that.
However, when I see little Miss Annabeth standing there, beside the chair, her hands on her hips, and a scowl on her face, I find I can't help the conniving smile that forms along my lips. Only making her scowl more.
"I called your name a good three times. How the hell could you not hear me?" She demands.
"Speak of the devil and she shall come." I say loud enough for those around us to hear. Causing some people to laugh out loud. When she turns her head, others look away trying to hide their faces from her view. When she turns her face back to me, I can't help the blood in my body from going to one specific place. She is hot as hell when she pissed off.
Makes me want to throw her down on the floor, right here, in front of everyone and take her like I've been dying to since the first night I saw her.
"Can we please go somewhere to talk. It's important." The madness has now left her eyes, as uncertainty takes its place. When she looks around the cafeteria I understand completely. We have an audience, and she doesn't like that at all.
I say nothing, only stand from the chair and begin leaving the room. It's quiet behind me for a few seconds, but then I hear her little footfalls right behind me. I can feel everyone's eyes along our backs, but I don't give a shit what anyone is thinking about all this. Let them talk for all I care. Watching her out of the corner of my eye, I can't help but wonder if she knows who she is, and that her entire life has been one big lie?
