Prologue

I have tons of books that are unfinished and need updating. But this story has been itching to be published so I decided to put it as a Christmas gift to all you Thranduil and Legolas Lovers!! Enjoy!

"In his heart he called her Tinúviel, that signifies Nightingale, daughter of twilight, in the Grey-elven tongue, for he knew no other name for her. And he saw her afar as leaves in the winds of autumn, and in winter as a star upon a hill, but a chain was upon his limbs..."

"Vanya!" Arwen called her older sister, as per usual she found her in her father's library. "The Yule Festival is starting." Vanya's eyes widen as she did not realize it was today. She put down her book, a love story of 'Beren and Luthien' her favorite story of all time. Arwen eyed the book and asked "Is this your 100th time to read that book?" Vanya chuckled and said "No, it is my 78th time to read that... and don't judge me. You haven't read the book yet." as she started walking up to her room with Arwen trailing behind her.

"Why don't you put down your books and join me out there in the world?" Arwen asked, Vanya loved reading books just as her father does but Arwen was more like her mother. She was gifted, the evenstar of her people. While Vanya was just plain old Vanya daughter of Elrond and Celebrain. Vanya sighed as she said "Little sis, I have seen the world enough to keep me satisfied with my books." Lie. Vanya has changed ever since their mother has been taken by orcs, in the end she was fine but she watched her mother sail. Arwen was just a little elfling back then.

Vanya continued on to her room to change, she dressed in a simple white gown. She then went to the courtyard to see people silently talking among themselves with a glass of wine in their hands, soft music filled the air. A few couples dancing. Her eyes then landed on her twin brothers who were talking to other ellons who looked like they are from a different realm, talking about which bow is better. She then saw her younger sister talking to a few ellons, of course! Almost every existing ellon would line up to try to catch the lovely attention of the evenstar. She shook her head as they kept flirting with her sister and her sister is oblivious. Her eyes then landed on her father who was watching his people dance. Vanya smiled and approached her father, "Ada!"

"Ah, Vanya. You have finally graced us with your presence." Elrond greeted as he kissed his daughter's head. "Why don't you dance with ellons?" "That's because no one has asked me, most of the ellons are on their knees begging for my sister." Vanya replied as both of them laughed. "Your sister loves the attention." Elrond sighed. "Who are here?" Vanya asked not recognizing a few elves. "Of course your grandmother and grandfather are here, you and your sister should greet them. A few elves from Ered Luin. The whole Rivendell.... and Greenwood." "Greenwood? Since when do they accept our invitations?" Vanya asked, Greenwood has always been invited to the the festivals and feasts of Rivendell but not even one do they attend not even the biggest feast, Arwen's begetting day.

"A few matters have arrived, you'll learn pretty soon. Now get your sister and go to your grandparents, while I welcome the King of Greenwood." Elrond said as he walked away. Vanya went over to her sister and yanked her away from the drooling ellons. "Hey! That wasn't very nice." Arwen complained but Vanya smiled and said "Ada told us to go to Grandmother." Arwen then smiled and both started making their way towards Galadriel and Celeborn who sat perfectly at a table. "Arwen, Vanya." Celeborn greeted them with a nod while Arwen and Vanya bowed down. Galadriel nodded her head as she stood up and kissed both girls on the head.

"Look how beautiful you've both grown." Galadriel smiled. "I agree." Celeborn added. They talked but once Elrond butted in. Arwen and Vanya decided to watch the people dance as they danced to a fast merry song. Arwen and Vanya laughed as they watch some people people dance perfectly but still some of them looked silly, the ones that were already drunk.

Thranduil and Legolas walked through Rivendell after their greetings with Elrond. "Rivendell is beautiful." Legolas commented as he watched the stars wink at him from above. "Aye, it is." his father replied. "Then why haven't we been coming here? You always make up these excuses not to go but now you have agreed. Why?" Legolas asked. Thranduil did admire Rivendell, but what was written in stone in Rivendell is what Thranduil is trying to keep Legolas away. Until this day.

"You'll see very soon, my son. Now go and have fun." Thranduil said as Legolas disappeared in the crowd. Thranduil wandered through Rivendell in his black and red robes, furious that he is not wearing his circlet which shows off his status. One of his servants were cleaning it at this instant but for now, Thranduil laid back for he didn't want people to see him without his title.

Until he saw a bright light coming from the courtyard. He followed the light and he saw the evenstar, they say the first time you see her, her light would shine so bright. And Thranduil has never seen Arwen since she was a little elleth. But it is not Arwen who caught his eye, it was the elleth next to her. She was laughing at what Arwen said but what made her beautiful was her smile, even when the evenstar's light is shining still she managed to stand out from the light. She may not be beautiful as the evenstar but she had a sparkle in her grey eyes that made her seem like the most beautiful elleth here.

She had long black straight hair, and she was wearing a white gown. Thranduil was enchanted by her beauty, captivated by her laughter. Thranduil doesn't know this elleth but he was itching to know her. He didn't notice that his feet walked up to her and suddenly their eyes met and everything seems to just disappear. "May I have this dance?" Thranduil asked, his heart having a mind of its own. The beautiful elleth looked towards Arwen and Arwen nodded her head as if to ask permission. Then she said "You may." as she slipped her hand in his. Shivers were running up and down Thranduil's arm. He was scolding himself that he was dancing with a common elf, the music began to slow down into a traditional dance.

It was a good thing that Celebrain put Vanya in dancing lessons or she would embarrass herself.

Vanya was laughing because Arwen pointed out one of their brothers, Elladan dancing silly with his twin. They both laughed that's until someone stopped in front of Vanya. Her eyes looked at the person and suddenly everything seemed to stand still. Vanya was breathless at the man standing in front of her. He was tall and lean, his striking blue eyes were cutting right through her, his long golden blond hair shimmered in the moonlight. He was truly breath taking.

Vanya was scared that he could hear her heartbeat.

Thranduil led her to the middle of the dance floor and they slowly moved together. "Are you from here?" Thranduil asked, Vanya was taken back that this ellon did not know who she was. Almost everyone knew who she was. But this man could be from Valinor or Greenwood. It would explain everything because Vanya has only been to Lorien and Rivendell unlike her sister who has been to many realms.

She didn't want him to know who she was because if he did then he would only be after her title. "Y.. Yes, I am." She answered unsure. "You seem unsure?" he asked as he raised a brow. It was hard to talk to him because of the shivers and butterflies that his voice gives her. She bet that this ellon could knock any elleth off her feet. "I am sure... I'm just not used to parties, I rather be reading one of my books." she replied. "A pity, I then have no excuse to see you." he flirted making her blush like crazy. "May I know your name?" Thranduil asked. "Call me Vanya." she said, still Thranduil didn't even know her.

"Your name fits you." he said as both of them smiled at each other. "Beautiful." Thranduil said the meaning of her name. "And how about you? What is yours?" Vanya asked feeling confident at her flirting. Never has she ever flirted with anyone but she has read it many times in a book or has seen her sister flirt with others. She never thought it would feel this way, as if her heart would explode. "Call me Thranduil." amused that the elleth didn't know him. Vanya smirked and said "It sounds beautiful, sounds like Tharanduil meaning a combination of elements that means 'beyond the long river'." Thranduil smiled, It was his first time that someone has guessed his name.

"You are the most peculiar elleth I have ever met." Thranduil said with much adoration for Vanya. Vanya smiled in pride as she said "You sir are the first ellon I have ever gotten the pleasure to flirt with." Both of them smiled as they stared into each other's eyes. Thranduil forgot about his circlet being polished, for now he just wanted to be Thranduil. Not King Thranduil. Just Thranduil. He was satisfied by that as long as Vanya was with him. He did not want her to know his status for she might freak out and start treating him like a King. As for Vanya she didn't want Thranduil to know her position in Rivendell or who her sister will be, she was afraid Thranduil might scurry away.

The dance ended and both of them never wanted it to, but as Vanya curtsied and Thranduil bowed to end the dance Thranduil spoke, "It was an honor to dance and meet you Vanya of Rivendell." he didn't want to leave her side but he didn't want to seemed overly attached. Same goes for Vanya. She wondered how warm his embrace was or how soft his lips would be if she were to touch and feel it? "Likewise." she replied as she turned around and walked away.

Thranduil watched her as she walked away and disappear into the crowd.

"My King, it is done." one of his servants said as they place the newly polished circlet on his head. "And Lord Elrond requests your presence... he said it is time to discuss and announce the writings on the stone." Thranduil nodded as he slipped back into his cold-self, the King he grew up to be. "Tell Legolas to meet me there." as he walked to Elrond's library where he would be.

Vanya didn't go back to the party or her sister, she went to the back gardens where she could be alone. Her mind was consumed with Thranduil, in just a few moments Thranduil was able to sweep her off her feet and possibly capture her heart. She never thought that any ellon could make her feel this way, she felt like soaring through the sky and at the time falling. She smiled to herself like an idiot as she stared at a flower that reminded of her and Thranduil dancing. How could an ellon say such simple words, execute such simple moves and was able to do something that would make her look at life in a different way?

"Finally my daughter has been having fun during festivals... too much fun though." Elrond's voice filled the air, Vanya turned around to see her father approaching her. "Oh! Ada you should have been there..." Vanya still pondering whether to tell her father about Thranduil. "Well now I am here." Elrond said as he put an arm around his daughter. Elrond sighed and Vanya knew instantly that something was wrong. "What is the matter ada?" Elrond looked at his daughter, pride swarmed his heart but he knew doing this was heart breaking but it was not his to decide her destiny. It was written by Galadriel and Celeborn along with a few others. He had to tell her.

"Vanya... it is time you knew the writings on the stone." Elrond said, Vanya knew the writings on the stone but it was only to be read during a full moon but never had she gotten that chance to ever read it during the full moon. "What of it ada?" "It was made by your grandparents of Lorien and the old king of Greenwood, King Oropher... They made an agreement to make a tie for your grandmother saw a vision and deemed it easy if to write it on stone, almost like a prophecy." Elrond explained. Vanya nodded wondering what could be written on stone, the end of time? Secrets of the past?

"No, it is not what you think but you Vanya as my eldest daughter. It breaks my heart bringing you into this but I have no choice it is written in stone." Vanya knows that whatever is written in stone should be followed because the penalty is death, you slowly fade until your life is drained. Vanya turned to her father worried and concerned for what is written in stone.

"You are to be wed."

Vanya felt her heart break, she heard it shatter from the inside of her chest. Even though that a simple sentence could change the short happiness she just experienced still she tried to keep her head held high. Tried. But as she held her head high a tear escaped her eye. Elrond smiled sadly at her as he wiped away the tear. Elrond put his head against hers and said "I wish there was something I could do." Vanya thought of Thranduil in that moment and just realize how she obviously could never be with him.

"It is written in stone Ada, I must obey." Legolas told his father as they waited for Elrond to tell his daughter. "I know, I just wish things could be different for you." Thranduil said, Legolas smiled but it soon faded. He wasn't ready for a relationship, but he could not decline it.

"At least you are marrying Arwen." Thranduil said as he checked out a few books of Elrond. "Ada, Arwen is not the eldest." Legolas said, Thranduil snapped his head at his son. Shocked that Arwen wasn't the eldest. He thought Elrond had three children. He must really come to parties more often. "What's her name?" Thranduil asked. "V--" before Legolas could say her name the door opened revealing Elrond. "Legolas, Prince of Greenwood may I introduce you to my eldest daughter, Vanya, Vanya meet Prince Legolas son of King Thranduil, your future husband." Elrond announced.

Once Vanya entered the room. Her eyes did not go to Legolas, her future husband, her eyes went on the ellon stading behind him. Thranduil's eyes went to Elrond's eldest daughter and both their eyes widen and both gasped in shock.

"Thranduil!"

"Vanya!"
