Chapter IV

After explaining to the Sheriff he nodded understandingly.
"I see." He sipped his whiskey. "Well, I'm sorry, Jus, but I can't do anythin'. Technically those two are under protection of some mumbo-jumbo company, so messing with them would be trying to kill a bear with a twig; it's hopeless. And painful."
No really.
We now sat at the bar discussing the fight as the Sheriff downed his evening whiskey.
"Well we 'ave to do somethin'!" Kamil exclaimed, throwing his hands up in the air.
Angel nodded. "We can't let 'em hurt Moon."
"How about a stealthy yet violent attack?" Kamil suggested.
"No," the Sheriff said sternly, frowning.
"Hmm..." Angel muttered, beginning to pace.
"Or you could just find Ezra like the prophecy says," Jus said, stroking his beard.
"Or you could simply kill him at the opportune moment. You know, lure him into a room with Moon and jump out of a closet to kick 'is ass into next year," a soft voice said.
We all turned to Susan, sweeping in the background. She looked up.
"What?" She asked.
"Susan, you're a genius!" Jus said loudly, kissing her.
"Ew!" I turned, shielding my face with one hand and using the other as a shield further away. Suddenly the Sheriff stood, sliding his empty glass a few feet down the bar.
"Well, I'm off. See y'all tomorrow." With that he walked out and Susan retreated to the kitchen. Jus headed out the back door to toss out the night's scraps. I scooped up Eleven and kissed Angel and Kamil on the cheeks before they left. I sat on the porch with Eleven and watched the stars. A sharp breath of cold air pierced my lungs as a lone star shot across the sky. I had picked out Roman and Ezra already and the shooter had blazed from Roman's side, past the moon, and almost collided with Ezra. It kept going, colliding with another star on the opposite side of the sky. As they exploded I stood, turning to dash inside. A hand on my wrist stopped me and I turned slowly.
Dammit.
