*~ Excitement~*

"Shinsou Hitoshi. May we both pass the exam and become heroes together."

I paced back and forth in my room, but no matter how hard I tried to calm myself down, I couldn't stop. Any moment.
Any moment my letter will come and say that I passed.

The knock on my bedroom floor startled me, and I stopped my actions.

"Stop pacing! You're annoying your mother!" I heard my dad shout up at me, but once my little brother started crying, all attention was diverted to him.

"Sorry." I whispered down to him as I sat down on my bed. I stayed still for exactly fifteen seconds, then I created a portal that went from inside my house, to the street. Hopping through, the mailbox was on my right.

Without another thought, I flung it open and-

...

...

...

...The mail hasn't come yet.

With a defeated sigh, I turned to retreat back into my room when-

"Excuse me, miss?"

My whole body stopped and stood straight as the person tapped my shoulder. It took me a minute to teeter around and face the man. The postal service uniform.

"I'm assuming this is your mail, since you seem so eager?" He pulled out a manilla packet with a grin on his face. "I'm sure you're destined for great things at U.A., kiddo." My heart was beating too rapid. My mouth wasn't working well enough to formulate some sort of gratitude, so I just gave him the biggest, most nervous smile I've ever made. He placed the important package in my hands and began walking away towards the next house.

"I can do it." I whispered to myself, crating a portal back up to my room. "I must have gotten in. I have to."

"Who would want to be saved by your shitty power?"

I closed my eyes and tried to block out all of the negative thoughts. This is supposed to be a happy moment.

I looked at the package in my hands, then proceeded to rip the package apart. The bits of paper fluttered to the ground but the contents hit the floor with a loud THUD.

"This is it." I realize how dramatic I was being over this acceptance into the Hero Course, but it was so important to me. My self-esteem seemed to need this moment to be a triumphant win.

I cautiously picked up the hologram to place it on my desk.

It flickered on, and All Might's large smile. That surprised me because I didn't realize that All Might was going to be a teacher!

"Hello young Tanabara Haru! It is I, All Might!! I will now be teaching the Hero Course at U.A."

I couldn't help but be excited, because it's All Might! There's only a one in a million chance to see him, and here he is saying my name! I let a smile slip onto my face.

"Your written examination was flawless, I must say you should be proud of that alone!" He bellowed out a laugh that left me shivering with excitement. "With that in mind, I regret to inform you that your score in the physical portion of the exam did not meet the benchmark for passing."

...what?

"What I mean is," the hologram scratched the back of his head, "I am sorry to say you did not make it into the hero course."

There was a dark silence that fell over my room, and my smile slipped onto the floor.

"No, that-" I gripped onto my hair and tugged at the roots, hoping it was a joke.

"Other than the physical exam, you're written exam was, as stated, flawless! So you were placed in class 1-C of the General Studies."

"This is a joke!" I cried, "I didn't even make it into the second class of the Hero Course?!?"

"I know you must be disappointed, but know that you showed great courage that many examinees were astounded by." All Might kept showing me secret videos of the students from my exam city, all saying nice things about my power and what I did.

"That doesn't mean shit, it all means nothing if I can't prove I can be a hero!" I felt hot tears run down my cheeks, "I'm nothing if I can't be a hero!" The Voice in my head was snickering again.

"We all knew this would be the outcome, Haru."

"So raise your head high and be proud, Tanabara Haru!"

"It's pitiful, really. Why are you alive? You're obviously nothing."

"I can't....." I held my head in my hands as I wept silently.

"You are destined for great things in the future, I know!" All Might's figure disappeared. That was it. I picked up the holographic device and threw it with all my might at the wall.

"I'm a mistake!" I watched the device hit the wall and drop to the ground. I did not dare to go pick it up. I stayed where I stood by my desk, and looked at my wall mindlessly. "I'm not destined for great things if no one wants me..." I cried into my hands.

I don't feel sorry for myself, not at all.
I loathe myself.
I knew I was a mistake, but that little bit of hope in me said I was alive for a reason, and I had a purpose.

"Haru." There was a knock on the wall connecting my room to the hallway of my house. "Keep it down; your brother is trying to sleep." My father said.
I bit my tongue to keep down a scream of frustration.

"Alright..." I replied through the wall.

That was all, I could hear his footsteps fade, then I was alone again.

"You'll amass to nothing, now. What's the point?"

"There must be a moment where I can get transferred into the Hero Course." I was grasping at straws now. I wanted so desperately to prove I wasn't a waste of space, that I was hoping for the near impossible.

"Just give up."

I couldn't tell if The Voice was being relentless today because of my results, or if it was always like this, and I'm making it seem harsher.

"No." I weakly defied The Voice. "There's another way to become a hero, I'm sure."

"Don't say I didn't warn you." The Voice sighed, "you either die trying to be a hero, or you live long enough to become a villain."
