"If you aren't fast, Bakugou, I'll come up behind you and take that number one space right from under your feet."

I stood in front of the gate to the exam, butterflies in my stomach. I got put in Exam City G with a lot of other people I didn't know, so I mostly kept to myself. They were doing their own thing needed to get ready for the challenge before us.

"Calm yourself, Haru! You can do this!" I breathed in and out as steadily as my nerves would allow me to. I have as much of a chance to be a hero as these other examinees!

"You think you'll become a hero??" The bitterness in their voices only seemed to push me down more.

"All you are is a disappointment to this family."

I'm not. I'll become a hero to be proud of.

"Alright, Examinees!" Our attention was drawn to the speaker which Present Mic's voice boomed from, "the practical portion has begun! Go for it!" I guess that means it's just a free- for- all.

I watched people start scrambling through the large gate, but instead, I opened up a portal. The orange glow around the edges glowed dully.
Imagine where I want to be......

I took a step in and felt the coolness of being out of the sun. The tall buildings towered above; like spectators in our exam.

"Two points." I locked onto a robot in front of me, and before anyone could react, it fell to the ground as I pulled its wires out. "HA!" The rush of adrenaline was nice- it helped me continue to open portals quickly and accurately.

"Hey! That was mine!" I saw a short, purple haired guy complain over the sound of creaking metal.

"Gotta be quicker!" I grinned cheekily.
Hopping off the back of the robot, I continued running. GOD AM I OUT OF SHAPE! I felt my heartbeat as I ran.
A three-pointer! I opened up another portal and quickly took it down. I have 27 points now- it's not enough!

Gritting my teeth and bearing the pain of low stamina, I raced forward.

"What's the point?" The Voice in my head said, "you're grasping at straws, Haru."

"You can't be a hero."

"Yes I can." I stumbled as another two-pointer fell to the ground. Hitting the ground on my back hurt, but I had to get up.

"All you'll ever be is a failure!"

"No I won't!" Come on, snap out of it! I slapped my cheeks and bit my wrists to bring my senses back. "I'll never know unless I try!"

After that the number of robots I had taken down escaped me. I just took down whatever was in my path. I used my portals to send robots to the moon, to a height that they would be destroyed, even to the bottom of the ocean.

Soon enough, I had to take a break.

"God, how long is this exam?" I panted. Luckily I found a narrow alleyway that the robots couldn't get into. Leaning on the building behind me, I tried to catch my breath.

"Hey, um," I heard another voice call out to me from the entrance to the alley. "Are you ok?" I took a deep breath, wiped away the little bit of blood from my nose.

"Yes." I replied, facing the pink girl. She seemed concerned, but obviously not enough to stick around.
Racing back to the exam, I see three one-pointers and immediately send them flying into the sky with a portal.

"Come on, Haru." I tried to continue, but I was too out of breath, too tired, and overheated from using my power for so long. I only had 30 points. It's not enough. "GET UP!" I pounded my knees with my fists, hoping that will get me to move.

THUD.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? I looked up from the ground, but I still couldn't see anything from the alleyway.

THUD.

I flew into the air a little, which scared me and out of instinct, I created a portal underneath me. The portal took me out of the alleyway and into the street. Coming to stand in front of the obstacle, people began running away immediately.

The zero-point stood so tall, that it's shadow casted over every examinee in the city. And honestly, what the hell was U. A. thinking?!?

"WHAT THE FU-" I was cut off by another loud

THUD.

I stood there, in front of this impossible task, and told that I didn't need to fight it. I feel like a loser as I turned to run with the crowd of examinees, but honestly, what could I do to this robot?

"Look at her run. Typical."

I could hear the sneers inside my head, and it made me stop running.

"She couldn't take that thing down. She'll never be a hero."

No.

"Just run. It seems like the only thing you can do."

No!

"She was a mistake. A failure of a daughter."

"NO!" I spun on my heels back towards the huge robot. In the spur of the moment, I sucked in my fear and opened the largest portal I've opened yet right underneath the Zero-Pointer.

My head was spinning from overexertion, but I didn't let that stop me from transporting the robot high into the sky. My eyes blurred as the giant obstacle flew back through the two portals, gaining speed.

Finally, when there was enough momentum, I closed the portal on the ground and watched the zero-pointer go crashing to the Earth. I was flown into the sky along with giant bits of cement.
I tried to slow my descent and opened a portal that was close to the ground not far from where I was standing.

"Time's up!!" I heard Present Mic announce.

Everyone around me screamed in terror, but with the last of my strength, I opened a hundred portals that created a shield for the examinees. The portals caught the flying bits of cement and tossed them back towards the flattened, demolished robot.
I could feel my conciseness fading fast, and staying upright was becoming a challenge. I stumbled forward, but before I hit the ground, a old lady grabbed me by the arms.
"Oh dearie, you fought hard." She sat me on the ground gently and pulled out some gummies and a water bottle. "I think you've earned these."

"Thank you." I murmured, and accepted the food and water.
It took a minute, but I realized that it was over. Everything I worked towards was over. All the late nights of training, and all it amassed to was 32 points.

I just hope to god that 32 points was enough.
