34: Speed Quiz

"Good afternoon, Memes~" Sir Neil greeted them with the same smile as yesterday.

Denise made another one of his weird sounds.

The teacher wrote the numbers one to ten, some drawing, and a new requirement label.

Q2-SQ1

SQ1? Gale gulped. There will be more!?

"Start choosing... And yes." Sir laughed as he started to distribute the papers. "This won't be the only one."

"I'll do it." Gale announced to Carl and James. They nodded, especially the latter, for he was dead in the game and couldn't choose.

"The mechanics..." Sir Neil mused as Gale wrote Camp Epsilon next to the number seven.

"Refer to this." He gestured to the drawing.

"Each of you will have a card. There are twenty-five questions and five break cards." He started distributing the cards, face down, onto each seat. "Don't look at them yet."

"You have one minute to answer your given card. You may use other sheets of paper or browse through your notes. I doubt you'll have time... Regardless if you're done or not, you'll pass the card according to the order on the board once one minute is up." The teacher said. "Let's try it! Pass!"

The students obeyed, but there was a bit of confusion.

"Huh?" Brooke looked between Hansel and Ciel.

"Uhm..." Kim tapped Hansel's shoulder.

"Ah, right!" The latter passed it to the former and took her new card from JC.

"Again!" Sir yelled, and the students did it a bit better.

"Alright. You may start!" He said, and Gale flipped his card.

It was a break card.

It contained a Snorlax (Pokémon) dozing off.

Oh, thank god. Gale sighed in relief. I don't want to dive headfirst into this.

Also, Sir's rather good at drawing these. He added.

"Pass!" The teacher said, and the students followed.

"Oh." Gale mumbled once he received his card and wrote down the algebraic expression.

#20: Solve for x.
17 (5-2) (3x + (6-2x)) = 418

And another card came before he could get to the last two steps of finishing the initial one he had.

#21: Solve for x.
5x(-4)=45

Gale wrote down his final answer a few seconds before they passed once again. The cards kept coming and going.

#22: Solve for x.
x^2-16=(x+4)(x-4)

#23: Solve for y.
5xy=8

#24: Solve for x.
-5x^2+20=0

#25: Solve.
17 (5+2) (3x + (6x-2)) = 481

Gale blinked for a moment. He knew he nearly solved it before.

He continued his initial solution for the twentieth number, and he sighed. He wrote down the final answer on both numbers—

Wait! They're different! He stopped writing the first digit of the denominator for #25.

"Pass!" Sir Neil said, and the students obliged.

Dammit. Gale thought, carrying onto the next card.

Then he gasped as he received his break card. This time the Pokémon was a Chansey.

"Pass!" The command came earlier than Gale would like.

#1: Simplify
17 (5-2) (3x + (6-2x)) = 418

Gale glared at the question. As much as it looked the same, he knew it most likely wasn't. He followed the instructions manually.

"Pass!"

Glad I finished that. Gale said to himself.

#2: Simplify.
6 • 1x/5

Gale wrote 6x/5.

"Pass!"

#3: Simplify.
6/1 • 1x/5

He squinted to make sure it was the same, and after making sure, he wrote 6x/5 once more.

#4: Simplify.
(6 (-12y) + (1x/5xyz) (32z-5x+21) (51+zy^2)) / 19x^3z^4y

Shit. Gale examined the expression. So much for the easy parts.

• • • • •

The moment Sir Neil stepped out of the classroom, Denise gathered his fifteen orange juice bottles and swallowed their contents. He passed out.

"I wish I could go to the vending machine..." RD muttered.

Gale's NCR appeared from his bag's pocket and offered Gale a bottled iced tea.

"Oh, nice." Gale smiled. "Thanks."

Although, after some time from math exams or exams like math, everyone in Memes either forgot about it, didn't care, or seemed to not care.
