19: Rise Up~

"Why should your batch mates vote the entirety of your party, and what sets your party apart from the other?" The emcee asked. The Miting de Avance included a QnA, and it was the sixth question.

There were two parties. Gale's was YOU, or Youth Organization for Unity. They had students running for president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and auditor.

The second party was RED, or... Well, Gale didn't really remember. They didn't have a treasurer.

There were also two independent parties. One was running for president, and the other was running for secretary.

The other party's VP, Phil, reached the standing microphone before Gale could.

"Why should you vote for our party?" The RED party member adjusted his glasses, then shrugged. "I don't know."

"Though, if you want," He added. "You can vote for us because if you think that we are all capable of becoming good Batch Council members, then we will be able to serve you well. What sets us apart is that each of us has our own different opinions varying on different factors. This can help in dealing with a group of students who also all have their own different opinions based on where they come from and what they believe."

"Thank you." He stated, not able to think of anything else. He received a round of applause.

"Why you should vote for us , YOU..." Gale paused for a dramatic effect once he reached the microphone for his turn.

"First off the name, Youth Organization for Unity. We are all young people like you, we know your minds, we know what you like." He said.

"Well, not really." He added quietly "But I know! Music, like Hamilton? Panic at the Disco?"

Some people screeched in agreement, especially his classmates.

"Games, too, right? Like Pokemon? Or League of Legends?"

Another set of agreeing screeches.

"And books, like Harry Potter. Am I right? Exactly. There we go. We know our similarities and -"

" I'm sorry, Percy Jackson, do you like that?" He added, seeing some people's faces. They lit up.

"Oh, there we go." He smiled again. "Anyways, for unity, we are here to unite all sections in order to help each other in becoming better people for the future. And why would we be better ?  What distinguishes us from the other party? Well, our different skill sets will help you, will help us help you, in becoming better students in the future. Thank you."

Gale received a round of applause.

"Thank you. Now, this is for the Independent Parties." The emcee said from the bottom of the stage. "If you win, there is no question that the other officers in your council would be former members of different parties. How will you make sure that your ideas are in line with one another and that there is no conflict of interest within the council?"

"Since we are independent," The one running for secretary, Zavier, got the microphone first and said. "We try to stand up on our own, and it's usually on a daily basis. With our friends, classmates... Admittedly, I did that with my parents."

"And as long as we support each other, no matter the age group, the religion, the gender, or anything else, sexuality..." He paused, seeming concerned on what he was going to say next. He said it anyway. "I'll admit that I'm pansexual and I support the LGBT."

7-Net, his section, cheered.

"Even if there are homophobic people, we should at least try to support each other no matter what our beliefs are... No matter where we came from... No matter what we know in life... No matter what and who we are." He said. "Thank you."

"This is directed to all those running." Jeff stated. "You keep making promises. However... How are we sure you will keep those promises? Are you even sure you can carry out your own plans?"

The audience gasped.

There was now an open forum where their batch mates could ask questions (There were 7 questions already; the emcee said this is meant to be the last), and well... That question was hard to answer, knowing the ways of politicians.

After some time, the one running for president from the independent party, Silver, answered.

"We aren't sure." Silver admitted. "There are things that can affect that, like funds, that can affect how the promises will happen, but what we can do is to try and be our best, like what I said earlier. We aren't just fine with better, but best. That includes you all, too. By cooperating with us, the chances of us doing promises go higher, and if things go bad, your criticism can also help. It's a matter of the 'government' and the people working together. Look at our country... The people rely on the government to fix everything without bothering to help. If they cooperated, then maybe all of us can truly achieve the best."

Jeff nodded and returned to his seat with the rest of the class at the back. Gale wondered if he was satisfied with that answer.

"Now, the open forum is closed!" The emcee stated. "Remember to vote wisely, guys!"

The emcee said the names of all those running.

"That's it! Enjoy the rest of your UB." She paused. "Also, secretaries, please remember to return the attendance sheet. Thank you!"

So... I'm back! This took me a while to write because I was really hesitant about it rip

Took some parts of the speeches from our school's post/newspaper :>

The last part wasn't part of the event though. Jeff just told us what his question was meant to be.
